I believe just this older building was used until the 1960's and started to fall in a state of disrepair. There were other misc newer buildings used into the 80's more than likely.
The main parts of the hospital closed in the late 1970's. The was some drug rehab after that. I graduated from the nursing school in 1974 and there were two classes behind mine. My Freshman dorm (Avery Hall) was just past this main building on the right. The other dorm for students is next to the Snow (rehab) building. If you look at it from Google Earth, you can clearly see the other buildings. This is so sad, it was beautiful grounds at one time and very historically significant.
I HAVE NOT BEEN THERE IN 4 YEARS. THERE HAS BEEN A HUGE FIRE THERE IN AN ALREADY UNSAFE BUILDING. YOU CAN TRY TO GET IN WHATEVER CURRENT WAY THERE IS. THE BUILDING HAS WAYS IN AND THEY GET CLOSED. IT'S ALL VERY RANDOM. I WAS TIPPED OFF OF MY OPTIONS OF ENTRY. I WOULD NOT CONDONE ENTERING UNLESS YOU ARE OF INDIANA JONES QUALITIES.
@DOC100 Loll I think Im up for it, I have already explored places like these before and im aware of the fire in 07 but I just wanted to make sure it was actually still explorable and dont worry im not the type to vandalize the place or anything, I just happen to be a teen who is fond of abandoned buildings :D
@ttblj haha careful who you threaten. please com kill me. i bet ur a big strong man, one who likes to talk shit to ppl on youtube. please come find me
i was in transitional housing right next door and a lot of scary stuff was happening in there and wanted to know some history about a little girl possibly named sarah who burned in a fire there. anyone who may have info let me know please
piosaypitate, are you kidding me? With your 16 year old wisdom, tell me how I am a threat to the future of MY country. I have been inside many abandoned churches and buildings in and around the midwest. I never started fires, broke windows(those that still had any) or destroy any part of these buildings! I have only explored. Maybe I took pictures. Just like I did in the abandoned church in the Read Mental Health Asylum here in Chicago. Now, go preach your nonsense to others.
the building was not abondanded until 2003 but in 2005 hudson heritage inc. bought the property to turn it into a hotel and apartment complex but because of the lighting fire in 2007 and the arson in 2010 the buildings are in terrible shape in one section the roof collasped along with every floor between it and the ground level plus hudson heritage has been trying to get zoning since 2006
@bruzer75 Not a good idea, it's heavily patrolled now, lot's of people are busted there! Not to mention the old Kirkbride asylum is a deathtrap! However if you do go I wish you luck!
@bruzer75 its your type of people that re exactly the problem , as is noted above people go in and break things or set fires, you should spend your time getting involved in local historic societies instead of acting like a destructive brat and contributing to the destruction of your own country.
you can explain to your children why usa is owned and controlled by world banks and china one day if you are ever smart enough
this place was very awsome!! my boyfriend and i went there during the day. the buildings are georgouse!! we found a basement window that was open but we didn't see a lot. it was dark and the lead paint was chipping real bad. hope tp go back at nite...maybe we'll see ghosts!!
@littlemoetta I don't recomend going there anymore.....cops are all over that place, but if you do, be carefull. As for ghosts, well cops and wildlife aren't necesarilly the only things that roam the grounds at night............(Not talking about homeless people or thrill seekers if you catch my meaning.)
@poomuncher5000 DEF NOT BECAUSE OF THE ELEC LIGHTNING FIRE! HAS BEEN CLOSED AND UNUSED SINCE THE 60'S I AM TOLD. THE FLOORS INSIDE ARE SO OLD THAT THEY ARE PANCAKING FROM THE UPPER FLOORS DOWN TO THE BASEMENT.
Hey is people still leaving or doing something in this bldng. Cause if you take a look in the minute 1:21 look at the first window in your left and the last in you r right the courtains seem to close as the guy passes by. Or it might be me.
hey ax. wow freaked me out there for a sec , but i think its a glass glare, or mirror image ot the sky, coz if u look at the other windows...its kinda doing the same thing..
nice building its a shame what happend to a building in solvay ny solvay process company it looked like castle then they knocked it down because of people going inside lighting fires and being stupid it should of been saved all the roofs were copper imagine that it like a castle in polan in syracuse its such a shame these buildings get taken down...
Watching this was creepy. I used to work there as a nurse's aide 40 years ago, in the building depicted in the video. I remember the big keys for the locked wards, the sedated ladies, and some that had episodes while I was on duty. It was so scary, I almost quit a few times during the first week. It was sad to see how the mentally ill were being held prisoner in these gloomy halls. I heard that a building there is now being used to temporarily lodge the homeless-anyone have info on this?
The answer is yes, but this bldg, the one that I was a patient in from 1969 to 1972,
the Hillcrest bldg, is one of the 3 patient
bldgs on the portion of the hospital on the east side of Rt 9W (Violet Avenue) in the Fairview section of Poughkeepsie. Since all they ever did to us kids at Hillcrest was warehouse, manage, medicate, and give us grossly substandard education, this place was never actually deserving of the title of "school." They should have dropped an "A" bomb on it.
I've been inside a few of the buildings and it's in bad shape. Parts of the place have been closed down since the 70's; it's all abandoned now and in disrepair. But the creepy thing is that basically everything is still inside as it might have been when it was used.
Thank God all kirkbrides r no longer operating, I have spent too much time there, if you only knew what they will do to keep these open, My fondest memory is meeting my bestfriend Pam, going through the tunnels, for u sane people and explore the top floor and japaneese type torture instruments, the demons r real-god is real, go and see, worst memory finding someone hung in thebath room lesson l learned do not take medication .PCP, cocaine, and ectasy were all once prescribed-they expierment!
Hudson River had a wonderful school of nursing. I was in the last graduating class in 1977. As I recall nursing administration was in this building. I know I wrote a paper on one of the residents of this building.
Too bad it burned it was lovely. If anyone from my nursing class sees this....Hello
My husband and I went there today (what no trespassing sign?) to take pictures. The right wing is devasted, the roof is gone and there are huge holes in the side of the building. It was such a beautiful building. If you want current pics email me and I will send them to you. The campus is HUGE and there are about 40 abandoned buildings in all.
there was a massive fire in '07 that took a major toll on the state of the building, the holes in the sides of the structure were made by emergency fire crews in an attempt to quell the blaze
Used to be able to go up to it (ducking from the patrols), but look at my profile for videos of it burning down tonight. Massive fire... loved that building too.
Please clarify. was the building itself closed in the 60s? bEcause the whole HRSH operated well into the 80s at least. i think.
