In the normal position of the hi hat and snare hitting where the hands are kind of crossed, the left hand hitting the snare will mean they are right handed. Unless they have a weird setup

well that's what he meant, that depends on witch side the toms and cymbals are. If he's a lefty on a right-handed setup, he will tend to play cross-handed. Left hand on hi hat and right on snare. But therefore, most lefty players on a right-handed kit will put a ride on their left so they could play on it with their left hand. It's all about toms and cymbals placement
