The dot-com bubble of the 90's, housing bubble of the 2000's, unreasonably low interest rates, U.S. consumer- and debt-cultures, and the complete lack of regulatory oversight by the Republicans have left us nowhere to go but down. I'll add that I think the "solutions" Obama proposes (and Bernanke and Poulson are enacting as we speak) will only make things worse.

Which caused by 2003, 30% of all home purchase loans being subject to intense review under the CRA.

Good answer by Newt but he has shown he is less than conservative in many respects. He is more like McCain and less like Palin. As demonstrated in 2008 conservatives will stay home if Newt is the candidate in 2012. At least this one will as I don't see much diff between Newt and Obama. The dot-com bubble of the 90's, housing bubble of the 2000's, unreasonably low interest rates, U.S. consumer- and debt-cultures, and the complete lack of regulatory oversight by the Republicans have left us nowhere to go but down. I'll add that I think the "solutions" Obama proposes (and Bernanke and Poulson are enacting as we speak) will only make things worse.

Actually you are the idiot. The CRA revisions proposed by Bill Clinton in fact gave no assurance that banks would not be expected to operate at a loss. Where the 39% increase in lending to low-income communities gave you your so called crooks. Giving you the terrible situation of todays lenders. I.E. fanny and freddie which was allowed to hold 2.5% of capital to back investments vs. 10% for banks. Which caused by 2003, 30% of all home purchase loans being subject to intense review under the CRA.

Ever heard of the "bridge to nowhere"? Monegan? TransCanada? Regardless, why don't you look at her interviews with Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson. Now, to you it might look like she's firing on all three cylinders, but to me she just looks like a good looking lady trying to b.s. her way through life. Newt is a bully, and he's still wrong about Palin's credentials, and Clinton lucked out in terms of timing. Focusing on the CRA distracts from the root problem: Personal irresponsibility.

As I've often said, McCain is an old man with cancer and Palin is a mean-sprited know-nothing. I voted for Obama with some reservation, but once McCain selected that corrupt bimbo for vice prez, my vote was sealed. If McCain had picked a VP candidate with intelligence and integrity (Ron Paul, obviously), it might have been a different story. I wish Obama luck...Lord knows he needs it!

I didn't vote for the McCain/Palin ticket, but it's hard to deny that Newt is right in this case. She is more experienced as an executive than Obama. Obama is more experienced as an intellectual.

Palin's experience was of minimal value b/c she lives in an unpopulated state. Further, her corruption came to light over the course of the campaign. The real issue is that she's extraordinarily ignorant, as shown in every interview that wasn't with someone from Fox "News." Had McCain picked Ron Paul for VP, I might have voted for him. Obama has a very difficult road ahead of him thanks to all that Bush had done over the last 8 years, but I think he and Biden were still the better choice.
