The S Class and 7 Series have much longer bases than the A6 and is designed partially for the owner to be driven in whereas the A6 is designed for the owner to drive it, and carry a family as well.
If the Audi A6 was eligible to compete against the 7 and S they wouldn't make an A8 in first place. Yet they have, to match the standards of the other two cars. Standards that aren't accomplished with the A6.

But what Audi has developed, given it's short period as a successful company, have certainly spoken to what is truly innovation: taking automotive conventions and improving upon them significantly, like in the technological wonder that is the A8.
S-Class does that because of interior insulation, comfort, and ease of driving. Design-wise, Audi makes the best interiors and always has with numerous awards to back it up. Lamborghini engineering is done solely by Audi engineers, only design is done by Lamborghini. Audi developed Traffic Jam Assist too, then. I can send you the article.

Auto Union cars were some of the best produced in that time period. They were luxurious and expensive, and dominated a large portion of the luxury car market in Germany prior to the first world war, after which the companies ran into some financial trouble. Audi was certainly not known as a poor mans Benz. Horch worked as an engineer for Mercedes and built cars to the same quality and sophistication.

This might surprise you, but I actually use an Audi R8, however I have recently sold it because I just purchased an SLS. I also recently bought the new CLS, I thought it was just beautiful, and I had the old one. My wife bought an Evoque and I have to say its great. We share all the cars apart from the R8 / SLS.
You need to remember that Audi was never as financially strong as DaimlerBenz was. Audi barely survived the two world wars and August Horch, founder of Audi, never had enough financial resources to build upon any of his innovations because his company was so small. He was an amazing engineer, however; he built his first working car in 1901, not too long after Karl Benz built his. I should also add Audi sets the bar for benchmark interiors, definitely not Mercedes.

A6 quattros eat brake pads & rotors, steering is more numb than BMW & too heavy for my taste, not Jag heavy but close.
I got two friends to buy silver black quatro sedans. Maintenace is more than they expected, they have since bought BMW M3 & X5 on my recommendation.

The S Class and 7 Series have much longer bases than the A6 and is designed partially for the owner to be driven in whereas the A6 is designed for the owner to drive it, and carry a family as well.
If the Audi A6 was eligible to compete against the 7 and S they wouldn't make an A8 in first place. Yet they have, to match the standards of the other two cars. Standards that aren't accomplished with the A6.

Mercedes is known as the manufacturer (Among few others) that is at the forefront of technology and safety. For example, ESP and ABS were all technologies first implemented on Mercedes vehicles.

It's not 'copying,' in that sense, if those technologies are released patents, which they are, by the way. Plus, these technologies are purely for safety purposes, so any advancement on that front is necessary on all cars (ESP is mandatory by law). LED lights are purely design, and Audi developed full-LED headlights on the R8 V10 and A6, which the 2012 CLS now has. Surprise, surprise. BMW also is using the same 'tweeter' B&O sound system in the new 6-Series that was available in Audis first.

I didn't ever say Audi pioneered more technologies than Mercedes. But what Audi has developed, given it's short period as a successful company, have certainly spoken to what is truly innovation: taking automotive conventions and improving upon them significantly, like in the technological wonder that is the A8.

S-Class does that because of interior insulation, comfort, and ease of driving. Design-wise, Audi makes the best interiors and always has with numerous awards to back it up. Lamborghini engineering is done solely by Audi engineers, only design is done by Lamborghini. Audi developed Traffic Jam Assist too, then. I can send you the article.
Aluminum technology, and Audi technology, increases structural rigidity while improving efficiency through weight savings. Mercedes does this now (CLS).

No, my argument says that Mercedes is a more experienced car manufacturer that is more successful than Audi.
Mercedes has been there, done that. It has had the title of the fastest car in the world (300 SL), it has invented technologies such as fuel injection and other ones that are necessary on today's cars. The S-Class is better than the A8 hands down.
Let us base it on facts, which company sells better.

More successful than Audi, perhaps. More experienced? Be careful which words you use before you know the history. Audi has been around since 1908 and was a huge player in the early luxury market in Germany. Auto Union cars are some of the best from that time period.
Sales figures? Audi outsold Mercedes in 4th quarter 2011, which is pretty impressive given how much more successful Mercedes is. Audi sales are increasing. Audi was No.1 luxury brand in Europe in 2011 as well, and in China.

Show me the source you have got this from, I need proof. I do know that Mercedes beat Audi by a MASSIVE amount in US sales though (2011).

Auto Union cars were some of the best produced in that time period. They were luxurious and expensive, and dominated a large portion of the luxury car market in Germany prior to the first world war, after which the companies ran into some financial trouble. Audi was certainly not known as a poor mans Benz. Horch worked as an engineer for Mercedes and built cars to the same quality and sophistication.
Check autoblog.com. They report on all these sales figures. Nope, can't afford an A8 yet. A4.

I like Audi but personally I prefer the more elegant oriented design of Mercedes compared to Audis simple design movement.

Yeah, I agree with you there. But I like discussing about cars and car companies without childish insults being hurled around. To each his own, for sure. No, I chose it because I just love the look of it, not necessarily for any practical reasons.
I do like Mercedes too, and BMW, all are great car companies but as expected everyone is going to have a favourite haha. What do you drive? I'm guessing a Mercedes?

This might surprise you, but I actually use an Audi R8, however I have recently sold it because I just purchased an SLS. I also recently bought the new CLS, I thought it was just beautiful, and I had the old one. My wife bought an Evoque and I have to say its great. We share all the cars apart from the R8 / SLS.

You need to remember that Audi was never as financially strong as DaimlerBenz was. Audi barely survived the two world wars and August Horch, founder of Audi, never had enough financial resources to build upon any of his innovations because his company was so small. He was an amazing engineer, however; he built his first working car in 1901, not too long after Karl Benz built his. I should also add Audi sets the bar for benchmark interiors, definitely not Mercedes.

@FIDTRO bmw is most expensive comparing with audi and mercedes. 5 series is more expensive than a6 or e class. 7 series is a lot more expensive than a8 or s class. x5 is a lil bit more expensive than q7 and m class. bmw 1 series is a lot more expensive than audi a3 (merc has nothing in this class, a class? it is terrible). 6 series a lot more expensive than audi a7 and mercedes cls. not sure about 3 series, c class and audi a4 comparison, have no info on new bmw 3.
