  • How this girl and she got it so very very talented dance combines two

  • IT WITH VERY FAST ESP SEEMS VERY TALENTED HE ATE Montagen

  • Comment removed

  • "Whew, that's the fastest my feet has ever moved"...wonderful entertainment.

  • Mr. Robinson an extraordinary talent.

  • The future US ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia going up the stairs with Bill Bojangles Robinson.

  • Shirley must have a particularly excellent memory to remember the entire dance routine.

  • @kyee7k She learned this dance by just listening to his feet. When her mother reprimanded her for not paying attention when he taught it to her, she contradicted that she was learning it by hearing and not watching. They had a very special friendship that lasted for the rest of his life.

  • col sanders had to walk in and ruin it

  • @EddieErion929 Yah- MrTemple was a bankster during the Depression. Ms. Temple was his hun wife. She changed her name during WWI- sorta like liberty cabbage & the recent "Freedom fries" post 9/11 debace.

  • her mother and father were someone if you know what I mean-

  • I notice that this post is still much alive.

    Love Shirley and Bojangles also.

Admiration is a too small word to tell what I think of Shirley and her art of dancing, singing as a small child aged 4 to 7.

    Adorable? Yes she was.

But you need to see her dance alongside someone else, en you can see her do synchronisation dancing as almost no adult professional could.

Also look up "We should be together"

Sigh. The place here is to small to tell what I ...

  • the tap is so rhythmatic

  • Bill Robinson and Shirley Temple are one class act!!

  • just walk up

  • I Loved this scene as a child and I love it even more re watching it on here. You could tell they both were having so much fun dancing :)

  • IT'S SO COLD IN DA D!

  • Twentieth Century-Fox studio cut all scenes showing physical contact between America's curly-haired darling Shirley Temple and Bill "Bojangles" Robinson in "The Little Colonel" in 1934 to avoid social offense and to assure wide U.S. distribution. Pre-release showings of the film, particularly in the southern U.S., shocked audiences when the two actors touched fingers during their famous staircase dance sequence.

^^ I don't see why there was such a problem with this awesomeness.

  • i love how every video with someone other than a white person always has some dumbass to say something stupid. enjoy the damn video for ffs

  • I share Mr. Robinson's name. And I am proud to do so. He was a very talented man.

  • Racist

  • racist.

  • didnt his mama ever tell him its not safe to play on the stairs?!?!....

  • Robinson is clearly a Dance Master and a good actor otherwise he wouldn't have been cast in so many movies! Shirley was very fond of working with him. Notice her ability to focus attention through out his stair routine. She's brilliant as an artist, performer, actor & entertainer at such an early age. Uniquely gifted talented beautiful & with a bright, sparkling personality. Robinson said her feet were "God-given" as he was so impressed with her ability to pick up on a routine, first try. Nice!

  • i would fall on my ass lolz. love them two :)

  • I tried this with my brother and I slipped and fell down the stairs Lol

  • Great great great

  • The beauty of footage such as this...we get to see a very talented man. His talent was respected all over the world. He didn't make the money that entertainers do now, but you can't take away the beauty of his dance. I hope generations of people get to experience the talent of this man and this girl.

  • life was very hard for everyone in that period of time with the great depression and in 1935 he had a prestigious job and was respected by actors, producers and studio heads. hollywood had less prejudice and segregation than most of the country at that time. integrating all colors of actors in films was a proud milestone, just as when hattie mcdaniel was the first black actor to win an academy award for her depiction of mammy in 'gone with the wind' in 1939.

  • I was amazed when I came to know Sjirley as such a talented girl. But then I was more amazed that there could be 34 people who dislike her talent (assuming that is what they disliked).

  • 34 People couldn't get to the market like that.

  • amazing dance *_* !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this dance!

  • Dancing made him happy. He was living his dream!

  • That totally made me laugh.

  • One of the 10 greatest 3 minutes of film ever made bar none.

  • Is that colonel sanders at the end? o.o

  • Holy Shit! I can barely walk up the stairs!

  • My mom always told me to not play on the stairs cause I could fall and break my neck.

  • Like the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band sang so long ago...Mr. Bonjangles, Mr. Bonjangles, Mr. Bonjangles......DANCE......listen to the song..and you will get tears in your eyes.

  • She is just so cute!

  • Wow......a wonderful video of two of the most talented performers the world has been blessed with.....then you look down to see comments of other people who actually appreciate things like this and what do you see? Hatred, hatred and more hatred.....very depressing. A few nice comments and for that, thank you!

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!

  • Stand still so i can whip you!

  • @ItHurtsToUrinate what the hell?

  • If we ignore history we are doomed to repeat it. That's why I can't stand these people who want to whitewash history posting comments like "guys relax its just a cute little dance!!" . You know it's possible to enjoy a dance sequence based on its entertainment merit while acknowledging the limited roles blacks had in hollywood at the same time.

  • 2:00 My favorite. I love this so much!!!!

  • Magic pure golden cinema magic, films now days dont put a smile on your face like this

  • this is an incredible clip from a beautiful time in movie making. thank you for posting, you tube in an incredible wealth of readily available memories.

  • Say what you will about the talented Mr. Bojangles but he did open up many doors for African American entertainers in Hollywood regardless of the stereotyping. Even Sidney Poiter gave props to him, Hattie McDaniels and Butterfly McQueen for enduring racism during that time period to soften the blow for other black actors that came after them.

  • Nothing like a good "Step Dance"!!!

  • It's 2011...GET OVER IT were all people Love ALL.. Shirley temples so cute! Bojangles greatest tap dancers of all time!

  • @Brucebruce9098 Idiot.

Blacks still have limited roles in hollywood and we have documentation like this tap dance sequence to remind us of the foundations that are responsible for today's still troubling race issues in entertainment. Keep trying to whitewash the past you white supremacist apologist.

  • true take the color out and ;you would be complaining about my typing or something else

  • wow tap dancing is incredible i dont even know y some ppl think its a negative stereotype about black ppl.its an awesome talent

  • Shirley Temple was such a little cutie, then she became a beautiful young woman! anyone agree with me?

  • speakingof stupidity ,where did get this unnatural trash from ,you will not be able to drag God along with you on your racism trips because God is love and any thing else is hate we all came from two namely Adam and Eve.

  • if i did that, i would trip and fall down the stairs :P

  • why does EVERY youtube video have to become a racial debate?

    enjoy the video ffs

  • @robchopper87 LOL WHAT.

  • she s a genius :)

  • gotta looooove coming to watch bojangles and read a whole bunch of hating going on below a great performance. Sure brightened my day. I think if I were Mr. Robinson watching from Heaven, I would be heartbroken that a video of me doing something I love would inspire such hostility between people over 75 years later. Have we learned nothing?? GREAT JOB BOJANGLES AND SHIRLEY; a wonderful performance!! :))

  • racism is a mental disease

  • still amazing.

  • If his parents weren't brought here he would have been killed by a lion, or killed and eaten by some other tribe.

  • @whitesox990 that really racist

  • @whitesox990 If the black Kameties hadn't abdicated the royal crown of Egypt to the white barbarians to protect them from the onslaught of the Greeks against the Nordic kings, there would have been no Constance, been no Ishmael, and consequently, been no such thing as YOU! So because of some kindness extended to your horde forefathers you can now come and criticize someone else. Good on you! They had God. You can have your ego! Which will prevail???? O.O!!!!!!!!

  • I SWEAR TO GOD I'VE SEEN THIS IN MY DREAMS!!!

  • Comment removed

  • according to the simpsons tapa tapa tapa didn't exist back then

  • It should make you happy, a talented man who knew that his performance was handicapped by his color, but preformed anyways, in part most likely, because it was what he wanted to do, and was able to do it. Also, because he was able to pave the way for other people of color to succeed. A trail blazer that didn't mind nor pay attention to the supposed limitations imposed upon him by the color of his skin.

  • This film is sambo mockery of black people at its best.

  • Family Guy should lampoon this; preferably with the Nate Griffin character tap dancing and singing. It should end with the little girl pointing at the maid upstairs asking, "Golly gee, sir, izzat the fat hog you wuz rapping about?"

  • what an adorable clip !!

  • I was behind the camera... LoL back...

  • i sho hope massa thought it was good enuf

  • @kristineurie44

Sorry to hear you still have one.

  • Another nig refusing to work

  • @oracleofdelphire yeah, but he had a legitimate reason for refusing to work. What reason do 67% of the country's deadbeat welfare recipients who according to government statistics look just like you and your parents have for refusing to work?

  • @DreamsCumTrue469 a disproportionately higher percentage of blacks are on welfare.

  • @oracleofdelphire

    Who gives it to them?

  • @oracleofdelphire 67% of welfare recipients are white, klanhead. why are any whites on welfare?

  • @DreamsCumTrue469

You're a fucking moron. 67% of whites may well be on welfare, but niggers make up the other 33%. and that's with niggers only being 11% of the population. Now if you were capable of simple mathematics you'd realise that proportionally there are far more niggers on welfare than white people. Get your fucking stupid ass back in school boy or would you like me to school you myself?

  • @ThatsThuckingAwesome You're a fucking inbred piece of WT! You only wish you'd had a modicum of talent as Mr Robinson. Oh wait a minute, you're too stupid to know what the word 'modicum' means. As your WT trailer park Mother

  • @peppersax007

    Keep singing boy.

  • @ThatsThuckingAwesome That's because stupid WHITE people like you think they're smarter than the smartest black person and therefor never gave them even the chance to go to a proper school. It's been proven a long time ago already the moment black people DO have the chance to go to a good school they're FAR better than white trash like you. Oh and before you start, I'm white.

  • @Saartje05

    Race traitor.

  • @ThatsThuckingAwesome Dumb ass. The race is HUMAN. You're an exceptional stupid one, but still human. No matter what color we have or where we live.

  • @Saartje05

you keep telling yourself that, maybe it'll come true... nigger lover.

  • @ThatsThuckingAwesome I rather be a 'nigger' lover than a dumb, insane, brainless white idiot as yourself.

  • @ThatsThuckingAwesome do the world a favor and crawl inside a cave and die a lonely, miserable hate-filled little prick. Racists like you are about as useful to society as an impacted wisdom tooth. Go to hell.

  • @jakeelee904

Do you actually think that I could give a fucking shit about what a nigger lover like yourself thinks?

Go suck a niggers dick motherfucker.

  • @ThatsThuckingAwesome Hmmmm......thank you. People (and I use that term loosely) like you are proof that idiocy, ignorance, racism, rednecks, and just plain undeniable stupidity are alive and well. What's the matter, guy? Get kicked out of the 3rd grade? Did the Asian dry-cleaners fail at getting the stain out of your Nazi flag? You mad that Bojangles will be remembered and you won't? You must have been absent the day they handed out brains.

  • @jakeelee904

I have absolutely no problem with Asians or any race other than negros and I finished university with honours. Your stereotypical idea of what constitutes a racist is exactly what I would expect of a lily livered libtard, pull your head out of your asshole and take a look around, have you ever lived amongst these animals? If you had of then you would know the truth.

  • @ThatsThuckingAwesome One can not dismiss themselves as being racist just because they like all but one race of humans. Your own words speak volumes and they constitute nothing less then prejudice towards African-Americans. Furthermore, the big question would be why would an honor graduate from a university waste his/her time looking at a video featuring a prominent African-American that they don't like anyway? Seems like a huge waste of time, unless you're just fishing for attention.

  • @ThatsThuckingAwesome And yes, I have lived, went to school with, been friends with and currently work with African-Americans as well as just about every other nationality. There has never been any problems, issues, hatred whatsoever.

"Racism is man's gravest threat to man - the maximum of hatred for a minimum of reason.”--Abraham Herschel--Philosopher

  • @ThatsThuckingAwesome Your education has lacked in magnitudes. How can you claim to have achieved excellence in higher learning and be so lacking in the basics? Racial propriety status and sub-humanism speak volumes of that so called achieved knowledge. All for nothing if you miss the basics of humanity. Such a waste, such a waste.

  • @ThatsThuckingAwesome Your ignorance makes me laugh. If anyone's an animal here it's you cracker jack.

  • @applesugarful

Cracker Jack? Is youz bein rayciss? lmfao.....

  • @ThatsThuckingAwesome I don't don't know....is youz?

  • Comment removed

  • Dance for me monkey man.

  • @ThatsThuckingAwesome you gonna dance along too caveman? or do you dance like all the other cavemen?

  • @DreamsCumTrue469

Fool, I don't dance... I play the tune and you dance.

  • @ThatsThuckingAwesome lol, you don't play shit. And if you ever attempted to, I'd take the instrument from you and shove it up your ass.

  • @DreamsCumTrue469

I'm playing you right now you fucking tool. Now dance.

  • @ThatsThuckingAwesome and grand brilliant they are.

  • magic nigger

  • @FoxtrotUniform23 please leave comments about your parents off the Tube.

  • Comment removed

  • @kiro5000 you got it wrong. the only one setting YOU back is YOU, and possibly your ignorant parents to the extent that they contributed to you being the idiot you are. Put that in your crack pipe and smoke it, nitwit.

  • I think it is great!! This was big step way ahead of the times. Bill and Shirley were great!! When I was 4 years old my Mom taught told me how significant these two performers were in breaking color barriers. Many folks objected to them dancing together. But Shirley never saw color only a good friend.

  • I didn't know mr.bojangles was a real guy till a couple of days ago I thought it was only a song!!!

  • @longplainfirstnation ... so just make a movie about! :)

  • I watched and I 'm thinking. I can totally do that, and I can do it better.

  • @longplainfirstnation you are an asshole.

  • @kawaiihimeichigo I guess your not coming to see me perform?

  • @longplainfirstnation cha i guess not >:(

  • @kawaiihimeichigo an ethug faggio....nice ha ha

  • awsome, bojangles im stumped for works love it

  • When I watch old movies like this, it makes me sad because I know this talented man wasn't given the respect he deserved just due to the color of his skin...

  • @bubblybabs Wow your that old, were you there ? LoL

  • @Auggie56 I'm no spring chicken... *sigh*

  • @bubblybabs I truly agree with you, but he opened the doors, and somebody had to, and he did it so well. We still remember Mr. Bojangles!!!

  • @bubblybabs If they did not respect the man they would have used a white guy--

  • @popomp1 he's talking about the target audience of the time period, not the people who hired him... >.> clearly.

  • @popomp1 History is what it is and people love to change it most people do not even know the number one slave holder in LA was black-- And before 1861 we had tons of freed blacks and you also had white slaves -- Its a old and tired tool to divide people

  • This is what inspired me to take tap dance classes.

  • Dance monkey dance. Just kidding, this guys obviously an amazing talent. White people suck at dancing.

  • Bojangles makes it look so easy when you know durned well it isn't.

  • I went to the market

    For to get some beef

    And the beef so tough

    And I couldn't get enough

    I paid 5 dollars

    For a great big hog

    And the hog so fat

    And I couldn't get back

I get the biggest cheeseball smile EVERY time I watch this. Definitely a class act!

  • Holy Shit! WTF is going on with all this racial shit . I just wanted to enjoy two talented performers dance. Leave it all you angry knuckleheads to destroy wholesome and decent family entertainment. From a natural selection of the specie standpoint, purity of the races will be mixed and assimilated in a matter of time, which is immune to any regulatory control. Truth is Ed Sullivan, out of his own pocket, paid for Mr. Robinson's funeral and Miss Temple became black. Shirley Temple Black, ha ha.

  • Comment removed

  • @mistressofaminer no they wont, because mixing of races is unnatural. And God Sun, will have the last word. on it. not man, and his lusts and stupidity.

  • @mistressofaminer They are idiots. I love this. I think it shows how much they care about each other.

  • @mistressofaminer I iz sory, massa fo not presheatin mitta Ed u nos weez jes ungrateful n low rate, I fo gits dat ciontist name u nos de one date showd dem pitchers of dem jiggas wit de lips n de flat fo heds don pay no min to dem no count jiggyboos de don no nutin bout desin folk dey is feil jiggas not hous jiggas!! dey low rate!!

  • I'm glad I've seen this clip! Bill Robinson was a genius!

  • I could totally picture Manuel doing this scene!

  • 32 people who couldn't spot talent if it was right in front of them voted this as a dislike. But I for one LOVE it!

  • Shirley Temple, the first "triple threat" (acting, singing, dancing)

  • 32 people are completely ignorant!

  • @streetdisciple27 grow up obviously your mom didn't raise you right. You give Latinos a bad name I'm Mexican I love classics things like this grow up fool

  • Im glad Shirley did not have to tap dance to the sound of the Nazi marching

  • I've seen this clip about 20 times. . .and it never ceases to make me smile ^_^

  • i wish i can dance like that i have 2 left feet!

  • Robinson and Temple were as big a box office draw as Astair and Rogers were then. At times, they even supassed A&R in popularity.

  • This is what I grew up watching when I was little ^^ cus i looked just like shirly

  • I don't recall ever seeing this longer scene of Bill "Bojangles" Robinson dancing alone for such a length of time, it was really amazing. Love Shirley, how silly a commenter below doesn't like the contrived nature of her already wearing tap shoes, haha. This is Depression Era escapist cinema, I think she's allowed. Most awesome.

  • That girl was just a natural. And what can I say about Bill? Amazing. Amazing to the nth degree. Awesome combo, those two. Thanks for posting!

  • The VERY FIRST(!!!!!!) interracial dance team in history. GRRRREAT!!!!

  • Fabulous. And great to hear some African / funk rhythms in Bill's tap.

  • The sound is way off!!! I think it's stupid how planned out that was that she had on tap dancing shoes!!! But i still love shirley temple!! b(and Bill Bojangles)

  • The sound is way off!!!

  • they're both so talented! I wish i could dance like that....

  • @Skankmaster90 calling someone a hick is not an unintelligent thing to say so um, yeah...fuck off. would you rather be called a redneck?

  • Fred Astaire dances like bill robinson bojangles...Tap comes from the black culture ...like all the other dances...you have it twisted like always ..I KNOW YOU MEANT TO SAY fRED DANCES LIKE MR . ROBINSON......GLORIA LEE

  • What a shame to see such vulgar language in the comments, and on a shirley temple video of all things! Its not necessary to cuss to prove your point. If you want to tell someone how ignorant they are for stupid comments thats fine, but by using such foul words in a public site only shows how ignorant YOU are. See how I did that with no cussing. Amatuers. Oh and I love this clip, thanks for sharing.

  • <3

  • He dances with the ease, grace and class of Fred Astaire. What a joy to watch!

  • I always wondered who that song "Mr Bojangles" was about...

  • shirley was a bad lil' white girl!

  • Every once in a while an amazingly talented person comes along and gives us something to marvel at. This clip gives us the chance to see two of such entertainers, and what an awesome pairing.

  • @Streetdisciple27 WHATS UR PROBLEM U DUMB ASS REDNECK? DONT BE JEALOUS OF PPL MORE TALENTED THN UR DUMB ASS.

  • @Marjorina125 im not white im latino

  • @Streetdisciple27 fine. latino dumbass...

  • @Marjorina125 lol u mad bitch?

  • @Streetdisciple27 im mad? check yourself.

  • They were great friends and he was her favorite dance teacher. She could learn his moves without looking at his feet too, she just heard the taps and caught on. She's mostly remembered just for being adorable but she was super talented too.

  • Was that Colonel Sanders in the white suit at the very end?

  • @ZX2ManDave Yes!!! That sure was!!!! Of Kentucky Fried Chicken(now,KFC) fame.

  • what a talented guy

  • My teacher showed us this clip today, people noticed the sound was a bit off.
