i was there at the opry house this week when Eric and carl perkins were rehearsing and comparing guitars .. I went over there because we at sho bud let them use some equipment ..if you detect a little doubt in cash's voice you are right ..no one really knew what reaction would be from the public with them being booked on this show an dit shows thru their talking ..i thought they would bear down with LAYLA but instead played some pretty simple stuff ..they practiced BELL BOTTOM BLUES.played this
@tomthefunky whats ironic is that if he was american he probably wouldn't of been exposed to the music that inspired him and he might not of became "eric clapton",a good example when the beatles went to the US they said we wanna see muddy waters and were then asked where's that? btw i love american music and johnny cash legend
These guys ( Derek & The Dominos) did relatively few live appearances, and the ones I've seen weren't that "tight". This video is a great, and a real treat! Thanks for posting a rare piece of musical history...
I Love it when I get to see video of random Legends interacting. Jamming or just shootin' the shit! Like that rare footage of Hendrix and Kieth Richards hanging out backstage somewhere, or the Rock n Roll Circus w Lennon, Jagger, and the gang!
this is not Jan 1971, but recorded in early November 1970 during the band's long tour of the US. They were getting strung out on various drugs by this time, but it got worse as they headed into their December dates, such as when Duane Allman joined up, which was unfortunate given the latter contributed so much to the album..
@snubbs741 I think he only used the Gibson and Marshall in Cream. After that I think he went strictly to the Strat. I'm not a huge Clapton fan so I might be wrong.
If this was in 71' this must have been right before their break up. The whole band looks fantastic, especially clapton, being a heavy heroin user at the time.

note how EC puts on a fake southern accent for Johnny Cash's benefit. Also, I think he's a little under-selling the British Blues scene!
