@charlesavec I so agree with you. If a country song can be played on a top 40 station, then it isn't real country. I pretty much stopped listening to new country in 2000. Now all I listen to is classic country from the 50's through the 90's
@BiggerThinking1 You are exactly right. It's the catchy part or sometimes even the whole theme of the song. In this case they're talking about the whole song. That certain 'something' that makes you listen to it over and over.
My siser and I LOVED her album, and this song while we were growing up! This brings back great memories of singing into my hairbrush! Thanks for posting!
I remember flying from London to Hong Kong with various stops along the way, when i was 14 years old with my parents and the hostess took my twin brother up into the cockpit to see the captain etc. I still have the logbook they gave us on the BOAC 707, also the certificate we got for flying across the equator signed by the captain.
This is a fantastic song - the words are brilliant, Susan's voice is absolutely fabulous and the images are powerful. Everytime I watch this I wonder who the people were, particularly the fleeting black and white image of the Stewardess on her own.
I alway love Susan Raye and like her song like LA international airport and some broken heart never ment and more of her song I love it really bad when she die to early in a plant crash .
I am so nostalgic , as soon as I listened to this song after so many years , I felt as if I am in a dose of morphine , so pain less, I felt so relaxed like heaven beyond my imagination ,,,,,but as soon as I time travelled back to that era , my eyes turned watery,,those days were so simple , haslle free, innocent lives we all were,,and that too is indeed a very special feeling I beleive simply,,,Thanks to youtube ,,,hats off !!!
Yes, one of my greatest memories from 1970ties, when I lived in California, and left L.A International Airport, listening to this song. Still have the old single..I was sad to leave..
@dcy62 hello dcy62 now I am 50 . I grew up in the 80th, I can't remember listeniung to country songs. but now started to learn playing keyboard and this is my new lesson LA international airport. First I had to google because I didnt know this song. I love it...
Haven't heard this for about twenty years. What ever happened to Susan anyway. For a one hit wonder this was fairly impressive. Not as good as John Denver Leavin on a jet plane though.
I was reading on some music site that question/answer songs were kinda a thing back then...the companion song to this song is called Lost her in Sun...just thought you might have wanted to know
Thanks for the upload buffalostomper. This is a hard to find oldie-but-goodie. I used to like to listen to this back-to-back with Willie Nelson's "Bloody Mary Morning" - they are 2 great leavin' LA with a broken heart songs.
Watched her sing this on Hee Haw last night. This was the first time I seen her sing it. I recorded it with my camera. Didn't turn out very good so I didn't upload it to YouTube. I'll try again another time. Anyone else tape it?
@zapkvr It's a new channel that hasn't been out very long, a few yrs now, but it's a channel that shows alot of country shows plus horse shows, cooking shows etc. You can look it up at RFDTV.com Some cable or satellite companies might not offer it. You can check into it. Crook & Chase show is on there also.
Man does this bring back memories. I remember being a little kid and my mom playing this on her record/8-track/stereo player. I loved this song as a kid and it's always stuck with me. THIS ladies and gentlemen is what country music is supposed to sound like.
My Band (Cheyenne)backed her in Friedberg Germany at the Capri Club in 1982. It was blast playing with her. I believe we did this song in her show. RAY BARRACKS 1/32 Armor "Bandits"
Brings back fond memories...thanks for the post...now if only someone could post "Stop the world and let me off" and "What you gonna do with a dog like that" by Susan Raye too.
My first airline flight was to LA at age 10, with my two cousins. Going to visit disneyland and California relation. The flight crew was so good to us. The captain let us sit in the cockpit. Got our pictures taken with me wearing his hat. Those days are long gone...can anyone imagine letting 10 year old kids sit in a cocpit of a airliner. BTW it was on American airlines a Boeing 707.
No, this song was written by Leanne Scott. You're probably thinking of "Leavin' on a Jet Plane," which was written by John Denver and originally released by Peter, Paul & Mary. John Denver came out with his own version a couple of years later.
@SpacemannSpiff I believe this was written by Denny Knudsen, he was ghost writer for Buck Owens and Dusty Rhoads. I seem to remember someone saying that as a ghost writer they don't recieve credit.

I remember in the summer of 1969. My sister was given acid at a bowling alley in Miami one afternoon. She put on the wig of the lady working in the snack bar and then lipsynched this song for a crowd of thrilled onlookers. Good Times!
Wow-this instantly took me back to the summer I was 7 yrs old-I believe. My brother & our friends used to go to a bowling alley in Miami that gave summer daytime discounts to kids & this & "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden" by Lynn Anderson were playing on the jukebox constantly. 1969?? Good times.
OMG! I hadn't heard this in forever! Sounds better than ever.

I went to L.A. last weekend (yes, via LAX), and couldn't get this song out of my head all weekend. :-)

1969?? Good times.

btw, cool song ^^
