  • Ha, ha vergess nie, der Start in LA...No turn befor coast line! ... Klasse Song!

  • Utterly brilliant. Such a beautiful voice. Real country music for a change. Far better than most of todays so called country music.

  • @charlesavec I so agree with you. If a country song can be played on a top 40 station, then it isn't real country. I pretty much stopped listening to new country in 2000. Now all I listen to is classic country from the 50's through the 90's

  • back when you did'nt have pay for food or blankets

  • Good singer, great song. It brings back memories of LA in the 70s.

  • buck owens use to tag her often.

  • What a hook...where is Susan now?

  • @stuwrightfrom53 what's a hook?

  • @BiggerThinking1 ...the chorus.

  • @KyplayaZ4lyfe must be more to it than "chorus" or they wouldnt use another word - i think it means the catchy part more than chorus.

  • @BiggerThinking1 You are exactly right. It's the catchy part or sometimes even the whole theme of the song. In this case they're talking about the whole song. That certain 'something' that makes you listen to it over and over.

  • Einfach nur toll und grandios!

  • Absolutely adore this song, brings back great memories!

  • I like this song and I love SUSAN - wonderful woman!

  • I wish i could fly to L.A. sometimes.

  • I remember flying from London to Hong Kong with various stops along the way, when i was 14 years old with my parents and the hostess took my twin brother up into the cockpit to see the captain etc. I still have the logbook they gave us on the BOAC 707, also the certificate we got for flying across the equator signed by the captain.

  • Watched the vid again - simply great !!

  • Yes the song is old but good..I do recalled that the USA was no.1 for all nation that years.thelongshot11

  • Watched her sing this on Hee Haw last night. This was the first time I seen her sing it. I recorded it with my camera. Didn't turn out very good so I didn't upload it to YouTube. I'll try again another time. Anyone else tape it?

  • @annieru66 I miss Hee Haw. Wish it was on in my town.

  • @zapkvr It's on RFDTV. Do you have satellite?

  • @annieru66 WTF is RFDTV?

  • @zapkvr It's a new channel that hasn't been out very long, a few yrs now, but it's a channel that shows alot of country shows plus horse shows, cooking shows etc. You can look it up at RFDTV.com Some cable or satellite companies might not offer it. You can check into it. Crook & Chase show is on there also.

  • My first airline flight was to LA at age 10, with my two cousins. Going to visit disneyland and California relation. The flight crew was so good to us. The captain let us sit in the cockpit. Got our pictures taken with me wearing his hat. Those days are long gone...can anyone imagine letting 10 year old kids sit in a cocpit of a airliner. BTW it was on American airlines a Boeing 707.

  • Who was the writter of this song? I believe it was John Denver.

  • No, this song was written by Leanne Scott. You're probably thinking of "Leavin' on a Jet Plane," which was written by John Denver and originally released by Peter, Paul & Mary. John Denver came out with his own version a couple of years later.

  • @SpacemannSpiff I believe this was written by Denny Knudsen, he was ghost writer for Buck Owens and Dusty Rhoads. I seem to remember someone saying that as a ghost writer they don't recieve credit.

  • @frankiesorci--

Thanks. I'm not knowledgeable about whether Buck Owens or Dusty Rhoads used ghost writers, but in my experience if a ghost writer is used it's usually because the producers or "powers that be" want to give credit to the recording artist (or producer)--such as either Buck or Dusty or even Susan herself. And yet the record (I have a copy of the 45 rpm) & the CD both list Leanne Scott as the writer. If the song was ghosted by Denny Knudsen, why give the credit to Leanne Scott?

  • @frankiesorci Just to set the record straight this song WAS written by Leanne Scott. I no this because she was my cousin. SHE HAD TO GIVE BUCK OWENS HALF OF THE SONG FOR IT TO BE RELEASED.

  • man this song is awesome my mom played it all the time as a kid

  • awesome! My man thought I was making it up!

  • Love these old pictures! Used to like singing this song. Thought it was catchy and fun and modern at the time!

  • what a COLPETE joy to have stumbled onto this little gem! susan raye combined with all the wonderful circa 1970's pics of LAX -- before they called it LAX. and it totally makes up for all the self-important, makes no sense, nonsense most people feel compelled to foist on unsuspecting viewers. THANK-YOU!

    Thanks so much for posting!!

  • This is why I love youtube too, cant find these songs anymore.. thanks for posting! I agree, she never got the credit she deserved!

  • Holy crap. I haven't heard this since I was a kid.

  • This is one reason why I like Youtube. I get to hear songs that I've forgotten about, like this one. Thank you!!!

  • Me too, never understand the rubbish comments that are common on U-tube, some people just open a song and abuse it, if they didnt like it ,why open it ,

I never thoughyt i would end up using U-tube but is great for sharing music, love this song, and yes ,Susan Raye was definately under rated

  • @Grabme777 YOU HAVE ALLLLLLLLRIGHT

  • @Grabme777 i agree, had an ear-worm a couple weeks back, found the tune in just a few clicks. B

  • @Grabme777 me too, like it!!!

  • this was her best song and she never got the credit she deserved......she was on Hee Haw, for those who do not know, because Buck Owens was the one who discovered her.............

  • It's been a long while since I heard this song. Country music those days was just GREAT!! She has a great voice. Very... Angelic. Heard this song for the first time on one of my ol' man's records!

  • They just cant come up with sounds like this anymore, the 60's were the greatest, & this is up amongst the best, wish it could go on for ever,Pete,

  • Cool song popular in New Zealand back in 1971

  • Very good song! It has a lovely and catchy melody but a very bittersweet story.

  • great song kann man gut mitsummen

  • First time I saw Susan was on Hee Haw in 1969 and loved the show. I liked Susan and the way she sang, but like all good things they must come to an end. I really miss that show. A lot of talent came and went thru there because of Buck Owens.

Pick up Susan's 16 Greatest Hits, you won't be disappointed!

  • Super Song

  • Einer der wundervollsten Songs aller zeiten, ein melancholischer Blick aus dem Fenster - begleitet von Fernweh pur

  • WOW! I bought the 45 record in 1973.

  • So did my parents, and I love it, this is absolute gold. This would be the only airport I would feel comfortable still today transitting thru to London, LAX is awesome.

  • They don't write 'em like that anymore.

  • @gregrsm ,I shedded 200 songs I wrote.They don't want that way of writting anymore.Jack

  • Minor nit: "soaring high above the heavens / in a 747" is accompanied by a 737 and a 707.

  • I went to L.A. last weekend (yes, via LAX), and couldn't get this song out of my head all weekend. :-)

  • Great song and singer

  • I remember in the summer of 1969. My sister was given acid at a bowling alley in Miami one afternoon. She put on the wig of the lady working in the snack bar and then lipsynched this song for a crowd of thrilled onlookers. Good Times!

  • Its a beautiful song. I love the voice of susan raye.

all the best for all the fans of susan. coutryflor from germany

  • Einmalig schöne Stimme von Susan Ray,

    Dake für' s Downloaden.

Viele liebe Grüße an alle Fans von Susan

  • Wow-this instantly took me back to the summer I was 7 yrs old-I believe. My brother & our friends used to go to a bowling alley in Miami that gave summer daytime discounts to kids & this & "I Never Promised You a Rose Garden" by Lynn Anderson were playing on the jukebox constantly. 1969?? Good times.

das lied regt diese 70er jahre fliegerzeit, als noch props unterwegs waren und piloten noch ganze kerle. kennt ihr den film "in beirut sind die nächte lang" mit lex barker? dann wisst ihr was ich mein.
