Just warning about TC - it's certainly a great game, but the only thing I hate about it - it's great heaviness. All these loadings between sectors (if you are moving from sector A to sector B without jumpdrive (especially when talking about terran sectors in TC), but with 10x SETA - loadings spend almost half of the time). Also FPS slows in all sectors with many objects (big fleets, large amount of stations). My quad core couldn't handle with it well.
Digital Anvil has been divided up. Most of the people who developed Freelancer are now working at TT Games (Lego star wars and that shit). As if Lego Star Wars sells better than Freelancer. Bullshit, Microsoft!! We want Freelancer 2, dammit!!
I fear this will amount to nothing, since when has a company as large as Microsoft ever listened to a group of people bent on simply supporting a game?
Regardless, I will support this, because Freelancer is a game I still visit to this very day. One of those games I've never uninstalled :)

Or perhaps you just want to be a pirate? Well your in luck! You can attack any and all race ships, force them to bail or board them, then sell the ship or build your pirate fleet :D
Also building a factory complex that is equivalent to the star forge on Knights of the old Republic is always a good thing.

@manlykblaze Yeah it does have an insane learning curve. That is the #1 worst thing about the game is learning how to play it. However once you learn it the game is VERY good. The complexity is good once you learn it because you get to do SO much with it. Heck I just enjoy making a trading empire on it and fighting whenever I feel like it.

Differences that I know of:
#1. You manually control your ship and only turrets are automatic (unless you jump into the gunner seat and have the ship auto-combat
#2. You can build up an economic empire and trade with all those friendly with you. Stations, complexes, and later on an HQ where you can build ships with the right material.
#3. You can control an entire fleet and switch to any ship in the fleet
@rujikin Somebody on a mod page told me that you cant control more than one ship in combat at once. I asked if this is true for both the mod and freelancer vanilla and he said both. Is this wrong or right?
@MrPerson61 In X3 you can control your entire fleet which can consist of a thousand ships (however 1000 might cause a lot of lag). You can only fly one ship at a time though. While you are piloting your ship you can send commands to your other ships, if your not piloting they are AI controlled. I normally have a wingmen guard following me around. When I get into a battle I order them to protect me, attack a target, or attack every enemy they can find. I fight 20 VS me and 8 wingmen
@MrPerson61 Bestbuy, amazon, or Steam (maby others??). Its around and you can register your physical copy on steam so if you lose disk you don't have to re-buy. You want to buy X3 Terran conflict (If you want a giant sandbox and don't care about the story that began the whole series). X3 TC improves just about everything about the game and makes it much more user friendly.
If you want the whole storyline buy the X-Superbox on steam.
I remember when I played the first freelancer, I was blown away by the graphics, the gameplay, the open world, and the depth of the story. It was one of the few single player games that took me a LONG time to beat, the way it should be. and with the mod tools multiplayer was an amazing experience too! I really hope they bring this project back..

freelancer was my favorite game for quite a time till i played portal 1 but i would still jizz my pants if anyone would do a freelancer 2. I had high hopes for Black Prophecy since it used a similar gameplay elements like freelancer but it turned out to be a grindy shit with way too small systhems. well i at least think that the prologue of BP is really really good but i have the feeling they didnt have enough money to develop the story further thaan in the prologue.

@didihell freelancer has the advantage of being open-ended, but that's about it. The Freespace 1/2 story is more in-depth, the characters far more fleshed-out, and it's actually in simulator format, where FL is solidly an arcade-style game. And the score, the musical score in Freespace 2 is absolutely mind-blowing. Don't get me wrong, Freelancer was a Very Good game, but FS1/2 stand alone at the pinnacle of Space-Fighter simulation. A commercial B5 sim might best it, but they canceled it.
Beat this game like what? 4? 5 times? Fucking memorable game. No other space sim can compete with this. The only thing that comes close is the Homeworld series and even then those arent space sims.
