OMG! Its been since probably 1970 since I've heard this. It was so over the top at the time. Like grunge was in 1986. So tame by today's standards. We were such bad asses for liking this music, LOL!
I saw the movie this song was from at the drive-in in the summer of 1968. This was a great song from a now cult classic. The plot was a little far fetched but still entertaining. It hit number one on the radio in Lansing, MI.
A great song-I have it on the original single from 1968. Chris Jones is not the singer and "Max Frost" is his character in the film "Wild in the streets". Written by Brill building stalwarts Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. Barry had his finger on the pop cult. pulse in the 60s.
I was going into high school when this came out. Terrific fore- sight of the lyricists! Life was good then, albeit becoming a bit shakier as the decade closed....
Tom Rush said if you can remember the 60's you weren't really there.I WAS there and it's all a blur. But I TOTALLY agree about the movies-like this one-so friggin creative and GREAT time capsules. But its THE MUSIC,songs like this one and all garage music, are TOTAL treasures.
Troopers, we need Max now more than ever!!! Frost For President in '08 babies!!!! He'll take care of the alcoholic generation & then the world will be set right!!
I was born in this era & I vaguely remember this song, but this reminds me of the song "Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones. I love Psychadelic Music.
Chris Jones was my neighbor in encino when I lived there in the Eighties. He used to say that if there was ever a film festival of his movies they could just call it(and He would hold his nose when he said it) P.U!
Ya kow....if you were around when this came out.....and really listen to the lyrics NOW......man........is it that far out? If you are too young to remember this song....damn....so sorry.
A perfect record(as so many from the '60's). 1:57 and it cooks all the way through unlike the crap after that to 2008 that bore you to death. Nowadays 4 & 5 mins. yeeech! And they suck! Many short songs hit you, then gone, makes you play them over and over. That's the mark of a great record. Long live '60's Garage! Most songs post-1970 bore and are over produced crap.
It was pretty tipical for a song to be about 2 to 3 minutes "max" during the 60's. 1:57 is a little short though. Still this is a classic tune! Thanks for sharing it.
sitting in the movie theatre gawking @ Micheals flawless *cum face-look* and being and acting way way Older than my 11 yr old yo-yo years.. sitting all day and all of da night in summer of 6'8 was the HIGH light of my life back then at age 11/12 anth..aka..
Thanks for the song. The picture was released by American International in 1968 if my memory serves. The theme was let kids from 14 up run the country and sack all the old farts out on LSD. I think it has great potential today.
I remember watching this at the Ohio Theater, two years before Kent State...I was twelve, and the world seemed to be up for grabs. I was crying through the song, tears of rage.
Fast paced and it has something to say,the mind boggles.Oh,you don't have to strain yourself to hear what is being said-pity-not!Qreat old ditty,I like it.
I came of age in the sixties and I remember being so blown away by this movie and especially the song. It really spoke to the rebel I longed to be. Times have changed and I've grown older but the words still have the power to move me . . . particularly that line "There's revolution, sweeping like a fresh new breeze . . . " Thanks for the memory.
