One trillion thanks for the work that you put into this upload! Andre Laplante is relatively unknown, even in Quebec; I think Hamelin is stealing his thunder a bit in the province, even though Laplante - although a much smaller repertoire - is as good pianistically! His Mephisto Waltz is probably the best I've ever heard and his Ravel is on a different level entirely. Merci!
@newFranzFerencLiszt The user FranzLisztFerentz recently posted the Berman recordings.
In any case, I don't think Laplante has received the attention he deserves. Outside of Canada, few are familiar with him, even among pianophiles. But as you can hear, apart from possessing a virtuoso technique, his phrasing and musicality is really remarkable! When it comes to Romantic repertoire, Laplante is very close to the top of my list of favourites.
@musicanth I heard him play the Mozart K. 467 live a couple years ago and was in love with how amazing it was. I bought his Ravel Miroirs CD and to this day, I maintain that it is the best CD that I have. I uploaded the Une Barque sur L'Ocean and Alborada, and the Une Barque has especially received quite a stir. Everyone that listens agrees that it is objectively THE best recording of that piece ever made, even edging out Richter's legendary live performance.
Thanks a ton for this, any chances of the Années de pèlerinage 2nd Year to come out ?

OMG. Even amazing pianists as Laplante cant play Orage's Presto furioso. This makes Berman's rendition more fantastic.

Orage give me chills... Even Trascendental Etudes are easier than Orage (well, Mazeppa or F.F. maybe are tougher than Orage but...)
