  • love how he downgrades the use of scales then does it faster than the greats, Showoff.lol

  • 4:46 very eric johnson-ish

  • The Master of the instrument "GUITAR",with a sense of humor :)

  • What loop pedal is he using? A boss rc2 or a boomerang!

  • @RUOCCOLOCO every guthrie pedal video I've seen he uses boomerang

  • 3:51 he looks for a loop and records it right away, while he tries to explain improvising AND IT SOUNDS LIKE GOD DAMN NICE MUSIC ! he is not human! hes god!

  • Dude... is this bucketheads brother?

  • @MainstreamRenegades not even fucking close, guthrie is worlds beyond buckethead

  • Man this guy can also make a living as a stand up comedian...Amazing guy....God Bless...

  • Amen about the scales!

  • I played with PRS floating knife edge tremolo's live for years and years and never broke strings especially when I started using .10's. I really doubt you would break strings with a nicer trem system such as the one on his Suhr and PRS's. Fenders are some of my favorite guitars but I never use they're trem's at all. Maybe one day I will experiment more but for now I just tighten down the springs in the back so it doesn't pull up or go slack with bending and holding notes. PRS's hold tuning.

  • @willeng84 I think the thinking is more down to the older the string, the more susceptible to snapping.

  • @AlexSlams You think that Guthrie Govan is playing with old strings? I am a semi pro meaning I make 70% of my living from guitar and I change Elixer's once every week or week in a half MAX. I don't even gig that much anymore, back when i gigged all the time I was playing ernie ball regular slinky's and I would change strings ever 3 days and every night before a gig, when you play as much as I do and I guarantee Guthrie playes that much, strings are dead quick.

  • @willeng84 I'm not saying that, I'm relaying what Guthrie is saying in the video above. He said that he changes strings more often when playing high profile gigs to avoid the chance of one snapping while using a floating trem.

  • @AlexSlams Word, yeah I was thinking a high profile guy like this should always have new strings on. I don't like old strings, I used to think they were best after a few hours play but I can't stand any grit on the strings now. I clean them, been wrapping little pieces of t-shirt around each string and stripping the grime off, been doing that forever but I play so much my only option is the Elixer nano web. I have really come to like what they add/take away from the tone.

  • @willeng84 I never got on with Elixr strings, I had a string endorsement offer a small string company but I just couldn't move away from my D'addario XLs - they just do everything for me, they sound awesome, really responsive and are fairly inexpensive.

I change more often than many do but that's because I prefer the sound of new strings. I haven't snapped a string for nearly 6 years!

  • @AlexSlams I like the D'addario's regular's on my strats alot but they only last like 48 hours seriously its pathetic, I don't know if the ph in my skin has fallen over time but they go bad so quickly now a days. I just broke my first .10 in about 3 years two days ago but it was on a new Parker Mojo with stainless steel frets. I think the new frets just filed through the string from bending. I run through frets like crazy though, I have 3 down guitars right now b/c of frets.

  • @willeng84 Sounds like you have a real heavy left hand!! My Les Paul is played to death and has only just had it's first dress after I bought it in 2000.

  • @AlexSlams Yeah man, I just play so much lead and I am a bending mofo which alot of lead players are but when I say bend I mean I bend it crazy, not only that but to really get that tone sometimes you just have to stragle it, thats the difference between most guitarists of years and rookies is strength in the fretting hand, all those vibrato's and bends really take they're toll on a fret.
