He did not "let him out prison." People should look at the facts. At the time of clemency, the man's charges were robbery, which he was convicted of at the age of 16. Huckabee allowed his sentence to be reduced from 108 years to 47 years with the chance of parole. This decision was made with the support of the judge in the case as well as the Attorney General. Could he fortell the future, I'm sure he would have made a different decision.

Granting someone clemency would have made someone eligible for parole. When Huckabee commuted Clemmen's sentence - that made him eligible for parole. The bottom line is that if Huckabee had not commuted his sentence, he would be behind bars today. No, Huckabee did not parole nor did he actually shoot the gun that killed those officers, but he did leave the "gate" open for those future offenses to happen. He should have been more careful with his executive power...

@ConservativeMother :Just because you are mentioning the actions of Mike Huckabee as governer doesn't mean we should not use critical thinking of WHY Huckabee commuted the sentence. This individual wasn't a murderer back (over 10 years ago) than and there were many individuals that vouched for this guy that was taken into consideration when Huckabee made this decision. Unless, he wasn't living up to his seemingly assumed psychic abilities, I believe we can't really place the blame on him.

@ConservativeMother :Also, taking into consideration the individual was doing a 60 year sentence for something that most people get maybe 10 years for (the guy already served 10), lowering it down to 40 and making it possible for parole would probably have been the decision that any person in his shoes would have made. Can't account for future acitons of an individual and unless we want power to be abused in this country, a person gets a chance if their past actions warrant it.

@BattleCry4Him Thank you for your honest response to my post. The issue isn't so much that he granted Clemency as it is the dishonesty in the way he has handled the situation. He claims to have read his file and didn't find any instances of violence, but clearly Clemens was an unstable individual WITH a violent past (even in prison) - when the file went public we all saw the violence listed there.

@ConservativeMother: I've met and talked with him in person as well as his daughter and know he's an honest individual. The parole board is the only one who can approve of parole and give recommendations for clemency to a sitting governer. A Governer can't grant anything without board approval first in Arkansas. Apparently, there were plenty of others who looked at the file and apporved of it before it even got to Huckabee's desk.

The man was facing sentences totaling 108 years in prison for a burglary sentences that was reduced by parole board recommendations to Mike Huckabee and he reduced it to 47 years, which made him immediately eligible for parole. The Arkansas Parole Board unanimously moved to release him in 2000. He did what he knew to do at that time.
