  • GONE BUT NOT FORGOTEN R.I.P RALPH

  • God Bless Ralph Mooney! The foot that made Merle Haggard famous!

  • Ralph was a very dear friend to my Dad, Bobby Austin. I remember how he used to come over and My mom would make him beans and cornbread and he would just love that! He was the best steel player EVER, and what a wonderful soul. My Dad is re-united with him. My mother will be sad to hear this news...

  • @ATSF1927 i agree it's so sad that Ralph and Don Helms were and still are the best Seel Guitar player ever and the sadder part is that the so called CMT Doesn't mention anything about those guys

  • Ralph Mooney and Don Helms in my book were the greatest Steel Players. I will miss them both.

  • More than anything else, I remember Ralph as a gracious and warm person who would always answer the endless questions of a newby to the business. I had the great honor of having coffee with Ralph and Chuck Seals one time at Shoneys at Music Row on Division St. I think I learned more in that half hour about the early days of country music than I had in the years I lived in Nashville.

  • He was a beautiful soul, my grandpa. So modest and peaceful, he was unique. I miss him, but heaven is the place we all wish to be.....and he is there now. Until I see him again, I only wish him comfort.

  • The best steel player I ever heard...on the same as Leon McCaulffe, another great steel player..

  • god bless you ralph mooney

  • He certainly was the best. Saw Ralph many times at Waylon concerts. Loved his style and skill. Fortunately we have CD's and DVD's to help us remember and continue to celebrate his music. My condolences to his family.

  • The great Ralph Mooney was the first great steel-player I listened to, he was playing to Buck Owens. I followed him since the early sixties. Thank you for all great music Ralph. We will always remember you.

  • @krokis54 If you're a steel guitar lover check out a version of "Playboy" by Eric Huff Clean Cut Country with 5 steel players in it along with Leon Rhoades (original band member of the Texas Troubadours) If you get the chance check it out!

  • A very very sad day the world has lost the finest steel player ever rest in peace Ralfh

  • As Waylon said, "show em the foot that made Merle Haggard famous, Moon."

Not just the foot, but the complete mastery of his instrument. A sound that is often emulated but never duplicated. There will never be another like him. All we have now is the memories. Thanks "MOON"

  • Thank You...This is so thoughtful...Ralph Mooney was certainly one of the greatest pioneers in steel guitar..." I can hear Waylon say it...."Pick it Moon!!".. Those were the good times.....R.I.P. Dear Ralph...

  • Had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Ralph Mooney, he'll be sorely missed. One of the most talented musicians in Country Music yet very humble. R.I.P. Mr. Mooney.

  • I bet ol' Moon is playin some steel behind Waylon right now!

  • R.I.P.

  • Such a sad loss; he will be missed! :(

  • I agree! One of the times I saw Waylon I went up and told Ralph "I know a song you wrote" and mentioned "Falling for you". We talked some, and he gave my wife and I backstage passes. We were able to meet Waylon and Jessie thanks to him. He was a really nice man, and my favorite steel player. RIP "Moon". (My favorite Moon solos; The intro on "I threw away the rose" and "Rainy Day Woman".)
