  • A summer in the city song that has jump up and dance good feel to it.

  • I remember my dad took me to a live taping of Keith Hampshire's Music Machine at the CBC studios in Toronto in the 70's. Doug Riley was music director and I'm pretty sure most of the Dr Music members featured here were in the house band. I was probably 8 at the time and I loved it... such power in the horns and vocals.

  • @squeeziecat You are so right! I was 15 at the time. It was a huge deal when a bunch of friends managed to get tickets to Music Machine and we went to the Saturday night tapings on a number of occasions.

  • Just wanna dance around the house when I hear this..Love it..

  • Fabulous song. Always thought this song sounded a little like a "Lighthouse" song.

Very catchy tune. We don;t hear this enough on the radio.

  • Please tell me it was a mistake .. .Doug Mallory was the lead singer ...Not Doug Riley....

No malace intended.Maybe Riley was lead singet till Doug Came along...They're both great.......

  • if you watch one of my snowboard vids with this song in the background you'll forget about all the sh*ty sh*t in your day to day life...traffic, work, waking up in the monings, mother in laws..thankfully I wouldnt know ...

  • I don't know why but there's something very Canadian about this song, the same way there's something very Canadian about those beige jackets with red, yellow, and green stripes they used to sell at Eaton's. But seriously, the lead singer of Dr. Music was Doug Riley and he used to perform weekly at the Montreal Bistro in the east end of Toronto, circa 1998-99. Sadly, Doug died in 2007, age 62.

  • @Maxwell1901 Please tell me it was a mistake .. .Doug Mallory was the lead singer ...Not Doug Riley....

  • Hey does anyone know if there's any LIVE footage of this band? Would LOVE to see it as I think I recall seeing the band on Canadian TV sometime in the 70's..?? Thanks in advance

  • Awesome! Great vocals on this 70s Canadian classic. I always play this as I drive in my car with memories of growing up during the 70s still fresh in my mind.

  • @Victor1970s same

  • Hmm - flugel solo has been cut out in the middle, it's now just one note long.I know - I played the solo. - and the song is faded - the original didn't have a fade. Also the picture is of the singers only only - no band. I'll post a complete version. Actually I think that there are some others out there. Nice to hear it though.

  • Fantastic group, incredible voices, and of course only in Canada. The rest of the world have no idea what they missed. Thanx DarkSeven09. 8Moody1

  • Love this song!!! Long live the 70's! 5 stars!!

  • I love Dr. Music's music arrangements. I recently bought 3 of their albums. Good music.

  • A masterpiece....they still play it on oldies AM stations, and as soon as I hear that opening bassline, I'm taken back in time. Canadian bands were so great and so under-rated. So much thought and effort went into stuff like this, and it's so moving. So sad that the vast majority of new music is such garbage.

  • Always one of my favorites. The horns are to die for...MM

  • Dr Music- any relation to Dr Hock or Dr John? LOL

  • The flugelhorn solos are beautiful, as is the entire tune. I have memories of going to camp as a kid in the 70's summer heat waves and this song was on the radio. This song IS summer to me.

  • A true Canadian Classic - of course it should have been a world-wide hit, but...

    *****

  • Thanks for commenting.

  • @cjthemusicman i had no idea this song was by a canadian group. the low view count was, sadly, a dead-giveaway. the exact song could have been produced by an american group and it would have been an absolute smash.

  • @halladaylover - too true. Oh, well, we Canadians know what we have. :)

  • where is gospel rock and one mor mountain to climb, i was so proud of this group, one they were canadian, two they were biracial three fantastic

  • Agreed.

  • All of a sudden I just went back 30 years. This song brings back so many memories of my youth!

  • Thanks for the comment.
