  • Can you say BACKUP?

  • What if the server crashes?

Then you have your whole family's files destroyed. Great thinking MS!

  • Most of the information on a server is actually stored on the internet so files are not lost, You would reformat the server and download the files from the internet and voila! Your files are back to normal.

  • amazinglyuselessfact, cool man, imagine how safe everybody would be if *everybody* kept their PERSONAL files on the internet! Woo-eee :-D

Imagine all the new ways in which law enforcement/thought police could protect us from bad thoughts :-))) I can hardly wait!!!

  • The cool thing about the MediaSmart Servers is, that they duplicate every shared folder on a second HDD. If one fails, you still have a copy of your files.

  • @TheGENEious If the server crashes, then you reboot.

  • okay, except from the Windows part: "A Windows home server. Does that make you happy? I bet it does!"... A real server is as Linux server! I bet it is....

  • Haha, yeah. XD

And, @amazinglyuselessfact - "Internet" is a word that refers to the largest computer network, it is not actually something that stores stuff. Servers are what keep data on the internet, and they simply send that data off to requesting clients. So, if the server gets a virus (assuming it's a Windows server), the data is lost, unless it is backed up to another HDD/SSD, computer, or server.

  • bahahahah

  • 0:18 - One of those boring things is using Windows

0:22 - Because of the BSOD

  • My friends laugh at me for having a home server. :(

  • Servers seem to be taking the place of personal computers, almost all my friends have a server, and even I do as well. I bet I'll get a thumbs down on this, but I'm a life long Mac user so I use Mac OS X Server. I've used and tested out Windows Server 2003 and I just find OS X Server so much better (in my opinion). I also like Linux, but only as a client.
