@t0ny0ngBayawak it is like a battle cry to rise ur teammates morale... and for me it just attracting sooo much attention to ur group.... like saying "WERE HERE FUCKERS KILL US"
The battle for the Ilu was not stopped only by the frontal defense there. In fact some positions were overrun and taken back by marine counter attack. Simultaneously a marine battalion deployed to the flank and rear of the Japanese assault and driving them en mass onto the exposed beach where they posed eternally in doc photos.
@prodigiousbastard Lol! The LAST thing the Americans were, were animals. But sooner or later someone's going to bring up atom bombs so I just got there first.
Just so Everyone knows, if you like this battle then you'll love the setting of Starscream's Brigade he finds an M4 Sherman or M26 Pershing Tank, a Willy's Jeep, a B-17 Bomber, an F4U Corsair Fighter Plane, and an M3 Half-Track to make the Combaticons.
Now that was just sad the Japanese had their legendary reputations as judo, kung-fu, and ninjutsu all go down the shitter. That would be just disappointing if a person like me wanted to fight one of them there and then.
the tactics used by the japanese had worked on other armies they had fought up to that time. It's true they were as low on supplies as the marines , but this takes nothing away from the Marines
@j9soup You are correct and the fact that once the Marines landed they plundered most of the Japanese supplies. The Japanese were never able to overcome this shortfall and this greatly reduced the effectiveness of the Japanese forces. The Marines, while initially left with not much by the Navy, got resupplied in ever increasing amounts starting in mid/late August. Material superiority by mid Sept.
the Japs way of fighting is crazy..they sould have...with the numbers they had ..sent out Snipers..all over the Marine lines...this charging stuff is nuts...taking on Marines strait on....nice try....
I'm just reading John Toland's "Rise & fall of the Japanese Empire" & the Japs were actually outnumbered, starving, with no provisions & badly equipped. Kavaguchi didn't even know there was a ridge in front of Henderson field, but he thought they couldn't to go around it, 'coz they'll all die of starvation & sickness. Japanese soldiers named Guadalcanal Starving Island & they would lick the palms of their hands to taste the salt before dying. Respect 4 the Corp, but the Nips fought against odds.
@stipicaradic not at the beginning when they had a steady supply of supplies but dive bombers and fighters of the Cactus Air Force and USS Enterprise aircraft effectively cut the supply route so yea they were steadily out numbered because of heavy loses in men and supplies
The Japanese penchant for suicidal fighting in WW2 should be a lesson for how we deal with the current enemy. Too much appeasement today could cost us dear in the future.
One of the japanese glaring bad principles was obey the order without question.Japanese officers didnt discussed or asked feedback from rank file. The forgot that sometime the rank and file had better ideas
I partially agree. The Jap soldiers obeyed orders but Jap officers were notorious for disobeying orders from higher officers. If they thought an officer wasn't aggressive enough, they would attack despite orders not to attack. There were a lot of hot-headed Jap officers leading their men in suicidal attacks. This type of stupidity made things easier for the USA. There were Jap generals who hated their fellow loose-cannon officers more than the US marines...
One of my high school teachers was on Guadalcanal. He was 18 years old. He said, "Do you know how to shoot a Thompson .45? You set it on it's side and then just spray."
some of these pacific battles show you that the japanese were not only hard, disciplined, fanatical fighters, but they were good strategists. we won because we were just better than they were.. we had to be
As in we had far better weapons and equipment, much more men and even more supplies? Sending men against machine gun fire (okay, that's a tactic not a strategy) were hardly a smart move. Other than that the fact that the Japanese even CONSIDERED going to war against us were stupid to the uttermost. There was no way in hell they could've won.
Midway is the turning point of the Pacific Theatre. Twenty minutes and four sunk Japanese Aircraft Carriers. The Japanese Army was lost without its support from the Japanese Navy. Don't forget the Aussies at Kokoda and Milne who first stopped the Japanese Army on land and pushed them back. Fact acknowledged by both British and American military sources.
did they have to fight the nyan banzai jap?

@prodigiousbastard Don't agree with the Bomb, but what could America do? I wouldn't like my youngest brother drafted to do street fighting in Tokyo.

@Noodles37UK What? I never said anything about the bomb, the Japanese just thought we were barbarians.

why didn't the japs attack from south of the ridge where it was flat plains.....?
mehdan2 2 years ago
they would come under fire from the ridge
worldbattle39 2 years ago
nah, the ridge was only a third of the island's width and not very high either.
the lower plains were forested i think
mehdan2 2 years ago
yea but their flank would be exposed
worldbattle39 2 years ago
I think it was more of a time, supply issue and also having element of surprise.
If they had more men, they probably would've attacked two-prong, main force south of ridge and a suicide decoy attacking the ridge.
