@FM5KR6F2007 Actually, they were some Jaguar mechanics, formerly Stewart, for whom obviously Rubens drove for 3 years with before joining Ferrari. But yeah, your point is still certainly correct.
Just out of curiosity, was this the race with the fairly big incident going into the first chicane on the first lap? I don't recall who was in it, just that was a Jaguar and a Sauber (I think...). I haven't seen that since the day it happened, and I can't find it on YouTube.
Heck, I don't even know if I have the right race. lol
Amazing Grand Prix, one of the best maiden victories ever, Senna at Estoril in 1985 is probably the only exception. This was special, Rubens Barrichello should have been treated better at Ferrari.
I remember seeing this race when I was 9 years old. Even today, seeing Rubens win this race makes me smile. To win on a partly wet track on dry tyres is amazing. Such a shame that Ferrari always had Schumacher as the number 1 driver because I bet Barrichello could have won more races and maybe even a world title.
schopfheim91: not only the podium, what about part 7???? I WANT WALKERS REACTIONS AS RUBINHO STAYS OUT AND TAKES THE LEAD!!!! PART 77777777777. please...
What a shame Ferrari had equality issues. It just shows hwo good Barrichello is as a driver - Ferrari never gave him a chance sadly though. The fact that he was on dry tyres on a partly-wet track shows serious talent. Great drive!
Why is it ironic? Button had the talent (obviously) to be world champion just as Montoya did. But Montoya threw the toys out of the pram when it looked like McLaren might be dumping him and ran off to Nascar instead of looking elsewhere for a drive, while Button stuck with Honda through good and bad times, for it to then become Brawn, and give him the car he needed.
was nice to see some passing back in those days i mean we wont see guys from 14, 16,17,18 in the points at various points and cuttung through the grid
i mean 3 points finishers starting outside of the top 12 is just very unlikely without a lot of DNFs and frentzen and ralf had cars capable of getting points
not that likely since for some reason the charges were on this day
rubens wins from 18th
frentzen as high as 3rd from like 17th
ralf and jenson had terrible grid spots and moved up to the points of near to before ralf messed is up
button was ahead of 14th starter salo
basically he profited from circumstances and really could not keep with the mclarens and barrichello, anyone wining not in those 2 cars in 00 was unlikely
I do agree with you, but Button's original start position was 16th. Given that he finished fourth from a last place start - because of a stall I theorized that had he run the same race from his original start position he could have won, or at least got a podium.
There was an article in F1 Racing Magazine after Jenson got his first podium in Malaysia which mentioned he could have got a podium this race had he not stalled.
possible, coulthard being caught out in the sc period dropping places, but an raw pace i dont think so
coulthard without the sc would have been rather far ahead and frentzen had his gearbox not failed (which it did way too often in 2000) they would have been reasonably far up the road
that being said it is racing, raw pace is not the only thing needed
it was without a doubt an impressive driver amongst a fair number i mean salo from 15th, rubens from 18th, frentzen from 17th very impressive
Rubino!

Thank you for this. One of the greatest first wins by a driver in F1
I'm sure though that Jenson could have won had he started from his grid slot and not the back of the field
