  • This video makes my feel better about everything. It just never fails to cheer me up. The Residents are amazing.

  • similar Pink Floyd

  • Wait.... Their heads are ACTUALLY GIANT EYEBALLS?!?!?!

  • Reminds me of Papa Lazarou...

  • Only in London would a band not unlike The Residents get appreciation. Here in Daytona Beach, they'd get booed off the stage if they even sold any tickets.

Don't get me wrong, I love The Residents but most of the world are interested in Motley Crue cover bands.

  • I've got some friends who are in a trio called Sneakin' Out. They preform the entire Sgt. Pepper's Album, sometimes with horns and strings, maybe a sitar, but usually solo and instrumental, the audience provides any vocals.

The trio is a mandolin, acoustic bass guitar and percussionist. The Percussionist is insane, playing hand drums, noise makers, typewriters, glockenspiel, xylophone and what ever he can get his hands on. Their version of this rules. I do love the Residents though.

  • simply lifechanging

  • i got this video three or four times in my favorites folder... every time i watch i add it

  • Is there a CD available of this concert? (Sounds great!)

  • I would love to hear Iggy Pop tackle this song. That would be great!

  • I just shat brix

  • We need a recorded studio version of this so badly.

  • love it

    when was this ?

  • @SkeletonGraveyard ha ha ha

  • This music is just right for Cirque du Soliel;) This group has massive talent! xox

  • I love it when The Residents cover songs. Their covers are always so fucking perfect. Long live the Rez.

  • they use macs as keyboards, i love it

  • Una de mis canciones favoritas tocada por una de mis bandas favoritas ! .. increible !!

  • There is nothing that can be said concerning the Residents; they transcend language, facial gestures and grunting sounds.....

  • @ralphwiggum14 dont get me started on oasis, i love the beatles but oasis trys way to hard to recreate themselves as the beatles

  • ¡BELLÍSIMO!

  • One of my favorite Beatles songs, This is better though!

  • @anonymouswillnotstop I agree. Like Eddie Izzards's under rated-version this performance is probably closer in spirit to how the song should have been performed. That said, the Beatles version is brilliantly produced, just not very well sung.

  • just great! If the Beatles had a tour in 68´ this would be the version!

  • Wow that was really awesome.

  • Something about guys in top hats and eye masks using macbooks seems funny to me.

  • Wonderful! Wish I was there, this sounds brilliant.

  • You can really see how this inspired Les Claypool's style of singing...

  • que bela bosta

  • @Garethium john lennon was one of the first 40 people to buy a residents record, he and yoko fell in love with the residents "almost instantly".

  • @randomtentacles uhhh link?

  • @anonymouswillnotstop missing?

  • Dude sure can play the MacBook!

  • @srgtmurphy LOL

  • It was a Tim Burton amazing!

  • @42whatelse if you are talking about the Tim Burton before Charlie and the chocolate... you might be right... if not, don't put him here

  • I wonder what the hell are they playing with the laptops...

  • @thewinebottle checking their email.

  • @thewinebottle they are in tweeter... the are posting "you won't fcking believe where i'm now!!!"

  • Residents is the Walrus!

  • I was at this concert!!! Amazing stuff. They played just one song in a big program that was a tribute to The Beatles' "Sergeant Pepper's". They were the best, useless to say! And Peter Murphy of the Bauhaus was having pics with them in the backstage later on :D

  • john lennon's song

  • Los mejores simplemente los mejores

    son lo mejor =D

  • no entiendo a estos tipos!

  • @laputaquepariolosnic deberías escuchar unos cuantos cds de ellos...

  • looking for someone to copy hard to find or not hard to find residents albums for me. anyone who can help?

  • wish I could 5* this video a million times

  • Who are these wonderful mystery men? the world may never know! Ha Ha!

  • actually performing with the eyeballs and top hats is pretty rare

  • best looking band in the world.

  • no pun intended! heh.

  • Although it's incredibly cheesy, I laughed like a little girl. :D

  • Top tune. I bet Lennon wrote the lyrics.

  • lol, they write they own music.

  • Whoops, duh you were talking about this song.

  • @TAXavier

    Yes...?

  • Thank you. Thanks for clearing up my clearing it up. Ever hear of mistakes?

  • @TAXavier

    Dave & The Mistakes?

  • OhhH!...you mean't "Yes", as in Jon Anderson, Christ Squire........ :(

  • @TAXavier

    Mind-buggl-ing.

  • Not ah...no....what? Fine.

  • wonderfull first time iv heard them tday iv seen them about in the music press 4 years rite back 2 late 70s can not 4 the life of me think why iv not listend 2 them before mesmerising

  • I don't know why it took me so long to realize that Les Claypool's vocal style is very heavily influenced by the Reisident's main vocalist.

  • HOLY SHIT!

  • The vocals were just fine on The Beatles version. C'mon now! There was nothing like them in 1967.

  • Funny, but the point is this is how the Residents interpret the song, whereas The Beatles recorded as they could.

  • omg i want one of those eyeball thingys so bad, they are so cool

  • One of the best live Residents performances

    love the vocal intonations throughout

  • Not at all. Don't get me wrong, I love The Beatles version, and John deserves all the credit for writing such a great song. The only thing I don't like about The Beatles version is the delivery of the vocals. In my opinion, this song needs that carnival barker delivery that The Residents do.

  • I agree whole-heartedly

  • So maybe Tom Waits could do a nice cover of this song. :)

  • @MatteusNova

    Interesting thought!

  • @JerseyBearanus Paul wouldve gone that obvious route- Lennon's vocal is very echoey-cool! Gives it a creepier sense- that something sinister might be going on behind the tent!

  • @JerseyBearanus i suppose it would have been a little better if he did that, but that's like touching up the Mona Lisa, it's already a 100% masterpiece

  • that was so awesome, words cannot express

  • This is probably the way John meant to do it, had he thought of it.

  • They've gotten really good live...

  • The eyeballs for ever.......

    good show.

  • They're alive?

  • Will we ever know the answers to any of these questions? Is that Homer Flynn up there? and who was there before? or was there a before?

  • homer and hardy are 2 members that have always been there.

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome, so someone here even noticed that, huh?

  • Thanks THe REsidents ! Amazing Song ! ... Love it !!!

  • whats the guitar player from baby lemonade doin up there?

  • Of course it's Homer Flynn behind the skull. There's a clip from The Residents Radio Special from 1977 with Homer being the DJ but using a fake name (Syd Powel) where he interviews fellow Resident Jay Clem. His voice there is very similar to the skull guy in this video.

  • I love the orchestral accompaniment in this song.

    The Residents rock, Baby!

  • is Mr Skull sick that sounds nothing like him until around the end

  • lmao a resident playing the trumpet through his mask

  • this cant be the real residents

  • the singer gotta hide his face completelyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • who is mr. kite?

  • um are you serious

  • He's someone, alright. Much like you, but not you because that would be silly. Entirely different, but in form and function he is similar. Only, I suppose he differs in a fundamental way, being that he is aware of who he is and you are not. That, or I suppose I took too much of the green acid. Who are you again?

  • stay away from the brown acid if you wind up tripping your way back to 69 woodstock sir.....stay far away......

  • think the beatles

  • He sounds....different...

  • Yeah I agree. Moves differently also... It's hard to tell if its really "him".

  • Excelente, buenísima canción.

  • so much better than the Eddie Izzard abortion from Across the Universe.

anyone know when these guys will be going on tour again?

  • fucking amazing, the residents are gods! Love Mr. Skulls mask! and checkout blue one the laptop! fucking amazing

  • shit you noticed that too? cheeky sods aren't they?

  • you can tell from their movements dispite the fact you cant see their faces that they are very happy :D

  • i like the carny thing he does here that lennon didnt...

  • Love the way he yells "Mister kiiiiiiiite!!!!" at the end. One of my favourite Beatles tunes. It seems its against the law to write songs that imaginative these days . hahahaha

  • Here Here!

  • THAT WOULD BE AWESOME TO BE THERE

  • Now thats how you cover the beatles! fuck off oasis!

  • This could be the Residents best known song..

  • It's like somebody took a great Beatles track, got a really fantastic group of musicians to perform it and then shouted the lyrics whilst wearing a mask!

    GENIUS!

  • I want.. no, -need- an MP3 of this performance.

  • just AWESOME! I'm waiting for the DVD of "The Bunny Boy", 2 friends of mine went to the concert in Rome... when they came back they were like "OH... MY... DOG!!!"

  • Who cares?

  • I care.

  • as do i .

  • it's something everyone should care about.

  • if we don't it means it'l be lost by the complacent and indifferent.

  • Only thing lacking here is Conway Twitty.4

  • Excellent cover. Just great

  • The Residents using laptops? Whatever next...?!

    P.S. Great post btw.

  • Why not? Keyboard mag told Residents were in the nineties betatesters for many synths, and I guess they made cd-roms earlier than most others. And isn´t that sampling on the first album, that Chubby Checker bit "let´s twist again" stomach muscles! For certain kind of humour they were the first too.

  • Wasn't putting the boot in, was merely surprised to see The Residents embracing "convenient" new tech (the kind of thing I expect half-arsed techno DJs to do). Got no probs with sampling/whatever, The Residents've made a l-o-n-g career out of skitting other folks' work afterall!

  • it makes perfect sense, unlike some other things

  • it ain't what you use,its how you use it:)

  • bet it would have great to be there, they made it work!

  • great

  • Incredible!

  • MR.KIIIIIIITE!!

  • Hmmm.... I didn't like this at first, then I realized the "singer" is doing more of a carnival barker delivery, which sort of works more than Lennon's stoner interpretation, given the lyrics.

  • Note to idiots below-that's the one and only Homer Flynn singing-no one can imitate him nor would they. Hardy's at the computer........this isn't a wild mystery/conspiracy here folks.....

  • Dude just quit spewing out names. You don't know for sure, you'll probably never know for sure.

If you see The Bunny Boy concert, you'll realize that's not Homer.

  • I just discovered this band tonight. I love it!! I also love the Beatles, and there are few covers that actually do them justice. This one is Amazing. What's good to buy from The Residents??

  • >>What's good to buy from The Residents??

I'm sure if you ask 10 different fans you'll get 10 different answers. But I honestly think a good starter is their 2-CD compilation "Our Tired, Our Poor, Our Huddled Masses". It spans the bulk of their career, has excellent liner notes, and includes some of their other great covers too like Jailhouse Rock, Hit The Road Jack, This is a Man's World, Kawliga, etc.

  • This is awesome! I jus saw them on Oct 12th. It was the coolest thing I've ever seen.

By the way for all of you fighting over whether Homer is the singing Rez or not. Why do you care?

If you see The Bunny Boy show you'll know it's not Homer. He's unmasked. If you care about who they are, you're just detracting from their allure and mystery.

  • yeah this cant be homer you can see the blond longer hair at the back or the mask i dont think this is the real residents

  • my mind is blown

  • Thanks for uploading this. My husband always raved about The Residents' live shows he saw and I had a hard time visualizing the whole concept. Gotta say that this footage is great: the remake, the handheld cam, especially the singer! Thank you.

  • Does anybody have the song? I mean The Residents version

  • This song? It's a one-time performance. :[

  • that "MR. KIIIITE!!!" at the end is great

  • lol around 1:00 one of mr. skulls head flowers falls off

  • Just about all of the Residents music and performance sounds like it is falling apart...much like Tom Waites's music!

  • Wow!!! This combination is fantastic!! The Residents` singers voice makes me showers on my skin!!! And the audience is appreciating this!!!

    Great!!!

    Thanks for posting!!!!!!!

    Twang cheers!

    Ralf Kilauea

  • Me too, I'm going to see theme in december, can't wait for that !! The Rez are so special, so different, and so secret, that's why it's a great band.

  • There is no "Homer Flynn". Only The Residents.

  • "Homer Flynn" has a fantastic voice for this song! And the Eyeballs with the notebooks are fantastic, as well as the one with the trumpet!

  • There is no Homer Flynn in "The Residents".

    See "rossarooney" channel. :)

  • that wasn't Homer Flynn...this Resident has a different singing voice than Homer. This Resident's voice is a higher than Homer's.

  • coo' ... they've made it more sinister. (:

  • No Fail

    GTFO

  • No, Jealkeja, the idea here is that Beatles fans who act like you are more likely to ruin this song for anyone who likes it for fear of being affiliated with stupid, closed-minded fucks.

  • This really went over your head, didn't it?

  • make your pronouns more clear

  • Just really, the entire point of The Residents. Their decommercialization of music, their goal to seperate "pop" from what they make, it's ultimately a very intellectual thing to achieve and they do things /differently/. I suppose you're justified if you haven't heard the rest of their songs (though I think it's played very well, mind you. The recording doesn't do it justice), but dismissing a group based on this video is a little rash.

  • "dismissing a group based on this video is a little rash."

I agree, and I point out that I never said anything about the Residents beyond how they've ruined this song.

  • "Ruined this song?" Au contraire, I do believe that is one of the points of what The Residents do. That's inherently very creative and has a point to it -- I suppose I was a little quick to judge you, thing is when I'm on YouTube about 90% of the people I'm talking to end up being complete assholes and I was expecting the same of you.

    Sorry about that.

  • you guys are both homos lmao

    RESIDENTZ4LYFE

  • this is a beatles song...

  • damnit. no fair.. well.. hopefully I'll get to see them in October.. YIPPEE!

  • I DID! It was amazing!

  • This is one heckuva performance. The Residents are one of the most unique musical projects ever. Beautiful.

  • Is this really the best thing you can do with your time? If so I think we have had a sad peek of a life devoid of any social interaction outside of the computer. Go watch something you enjoy instead of costantly coming here to voice your lame ass opinion. good day.

  • Just because the internet gives you the ability to be a twat without having to face up to it doesn't mean you should. Also you spelled faggot wrong.

  • spork - ignore him and he'll go away. Bear in mind The Residents aren't exactly music for commoners. ;)

  • LOL

  • Großartiger Vortrag. Oh, wie ich doch "The Rez" liebe!

  • únicos!

  • Amazing perfomance !

    5/5

  • And this song its too Residents... I love both (The Beatles & The Residents)
