The root cause of why we're skeptical about fake stuff is that it doesn't have billions of years of evolution weeding out negative effects, obvious or not, going for it. The spirit of the culture isn't so much about being 'natural' - it's more about seeing the bigger picture of things.
Hi Penn fans. Penn Says videos have been discontinued, so you won't be seeing any new content on here. You can check out our Profile on our Channel Page for more info. We'll still be checking in, so hope to keep chatting with you all! Thanks!
Penn has shown himself to be the most opinionated person in the media eye. and he is certainly convinced that he is correct about everything. when you listen to him he sounds like he is preaching.
I don't think we'll ever have something completely synthetic, because even synthetic things have some parts that are derived from nature. Even if it's molecules and atoms are manipulated, they're still the same atoms and molecules, just put in different positions or stuck together differently, so you can't totally escape the natural components.
Pollock is most often the main fish ingredient used in preparing imitation crab meat. The fish is first skinned and boned and then minced, or cut into very small pieces. The minced pollock and/or other fish are rinsed before being formed into the fish paste known as surimi. The finished surimi is shaped into chunks or tubes and cut into blocks or sticks. It is cooked to give it a texture closer to real crab meat.
I hate Krab, mostly because of the taste. But I also really hate that pretentious red stripe they paint on it. I mean, who are they fooling with that?
I suppose I'm a hippy but I hate Kraft Parmesan it's not cheese it's like foot powder it comes in a fucking foot powder shaker, the real stuff comes from Italy and is like a controlled substance to prevent the quality from suffering. Italy in general all their meats and such all carefully controlled to make sure when you buy something with a certain name it actually tastes the way it should, they do this for wines and even vinegar, it's amazing to me, but you know I must be a hippy, right?
Fake stuff is usually better, in the fact if someone put the effort into making it fake, it was probably to lower the production cost, improve the nutrition or taste.
Of course, if they only focused on cost reduction, thats when we run into problems with fake stuff.
Improve nutrition? HA HA HA HA! Almost all fake things are many times unhealthier than their natural counterparts. Its merely for the taste and preservation.
Vitamins are not exactly great for you. They are pure concentrated vitamin (insert letter here) and so you if you already have met your daily requirments you will get "overdosed".
By "overdosed" you mean the medical term to take too much of a perscribed 'dose'.
By overdose in Vitamins, you mean.. my urine turns a brighter yellow.. big whoop.. sorry but vitamins (most) are easy for our liver to pass if we take too many.
So let me 'overdose' till my pee glows in the dark, I'll still be healthier then you. :)
You would have to do repeat abuse of vitamins in large quantities, way above recommended dose's.
I have a sneeking idea your talking out your (_*_)
The true point is, the product is only as bad as it producer, some fake products are just as good IF NOT better then before. Without changing food the way we have, guess what, you would not be at a computer, but farming your own food, cause we cant produce enough food to feed the world as it is.
Surimi! - You're an EXTROPIAN, futurist, rationalist, libertarian! That said, you need to read more, and you need to be more selective about what you read, methinks. Read "Fantastic Voyage" by Ray Kurzweil. I shit you not. RE: surimi: We harvested rotten salmon in Alaska for that shit, with the EPA breathing down our necks in 1997. Moxie and Z will be living to 1,000 years old... LOL Drexlerian nanotechnology. I assume you've read "Engines of Creation"...
Do you know how many people would be living on this planet if we lived to 1000? The population would be unsustainable. We'd need to teraform Mars, Venus, and probably several moons of Jupiter to spread ourselves out. Now I'm all for inter-solar expansion, but we're not even close to there yet.
Diet Rite soda is sweetened with Splenda, a brand name of Sucralose. So, you are not drinking nothing, you are drinking a substance that your body has no idea what to do with. Like Aspartame, your liver/kidneys has no idea what to do to process it, and it can build up to toxic levels in your system. Splenda is a chemical substance. You are much better off eating actual sugar in smaller quantities than artificial chemicals. A safe natural alternative to sugar is Stevia, which is a plant extract.
(0) Coolwhip is more Shaving Cream than anything else. It comes real close. Margerin does not decompose no matter what because it is undigestable does that count?(0)
Actually Diet Rite uses Splenda, a brand name of Sucralose. Same deal though, all chemically engineered substances to replace sugar are equally problematic in terms of the human body's ability to process them. These include non-nutritive, high-intensity substitutes like ASPARTAME, ACESULFAME-K, NEOTAME, SUCRALOSE, and ALITAME. (info on [[splendaexposed||dot||com]])
Well, I don't actually like crab OR krab, but I do like diet coke (I don't worry or care much about the caffeine one way or the other; it doesn't seem to have significant side-effects unless consumed in much larger doses, and I don't even notice a change in my energy). I think the reason is that diet coke is less sweet than regular, partly in an attempt to minimize use of artificial sweetener, but mostly because the target audience doesn't like its food as sweet anyways.
I think artificial food should be possible, although perhaps not yet. Mostly we need to be able to construct just a few basic molecules, especially some sort of carbohydrate, that is edible. The problem is that because of evolution, the molecule would have to be one that exists in nature anyways, so even if it's created entirely artificially, the food wouldn't be all that different from plant or animal-based food. At least that's my suspicion; I guess we won't know till we make it.
Dude really need to try Diet Cheerwine. It is like a diet cherry coke with no sodium or uses splenda. Don't know if they have it in NV. Might be a southeastern thing.
You know how they grow bone tissue in hospitals. I'm going to grow a truss bridge out of bone tissue. It would be the best bridge ever. Lightweight, excellent compression strength, self-regenerating. Take that God! Muhahaha!
I have grown to love a lot of fake foods, by virtue of good feelings of branding and marketing. Meanwhile I think the synthesized food actually tends to not digest as well and I think tends to make people "fat" aka bloated. While I like the idea of being able to customize food, I think there are some types of synthesizing that are proving to be just unnatural enough to create problems. Which makes sense really.
well, if you think about it, synthesized food would be better because they could put whatever vitamins and minerals that they want to in there, and flavor it however they want. so in essence, you could have synthesized ice cream thats healthier than a salad, or you could eat an entire synthesized cake and lose weight.

It's true name is Suremi..made from pollack, sugar,salt, egg white, oil, and a few other ingr......lot of people I know like it better than real crab......just don't get me started on fishsticks...:}
I'm not with ya on this one, at least with those examples. I like it when technology improves food transparently, not when it makes things taste like technology. They've gotten better with artificial flavors and preservatives, for instance. But then there are things like diet cola which taste like something I shouldn't be ingesting. As for krab, there's no actual improvement over the real thing in taste or texture, just the price.
I like Krab in salads (e.g., from the grocery store salad bar), but my dogs--who will typically eat ANYTHING, and who SURVIVE on disgusting raw chicken--seem to think it's INEDIBLE!
