  • I wish the intro was much longer. The drums and piano are such a perfect match. Eno is unreal.

  • "To be a zombie all the time requires such dedication." You can see that with the god-addicted theist nuts.

  • It's not so much a living Hell

  • yoo the man

  • Oh perfect masters

    They thrive on disasters

    They all look so harmless

Till they find their way up here.

    UTTER UTTER CLASSIC

But dead finks don't talk too well

They've got a shaky sense of diction

It's not so much a living hell

    It's just a dying fiction.

(and in the background the hysteric "Oh no, oh, no, oh no!)

  • It's "as you peck your way up there",,,,,,,

  • @ADXYMOX7 I think ADXYMOX7 is correct - it is "peck your way up there" - it's also in keeping with the chicken theme of the 2nd verse! I guess Eno must have been thinking of Ferry and got himself in a FOWL mood

  • This song makes it pretty obvious to the listener that Bryan Ferry was not Eno's favorite guy. As a neutral party, I love both of them.

  • ENO, WASN'T MAD AT BRYAN FERRY,HE JUST SPLIT..BUT HE DOES DO A GREAT IMPRESSION OF HIM..

  • love it

  • just so good check out his new double album

  • It seems there's a lot written between the lines; or in 'the spaces' to this one. Eno, is a rare phenomena; Outstanding; Exotic.... LAAL

  • everyone loves eno? yeah?

  • As good a rock song as any there ever was.

  • "You're so perceptive

And I wonder how you knew."

Some of my fav lyrics; appropriate for almost any occasion:-)

  • This is a fucking choon. This is the best fucking album EVER.

  • @ignoranttwat One of my favorites EVER

  • @BaZnagual - What, you don't mean industrial? If anything, the end sounds like Trent Reznor doing a merry little jig of his own design...

  • posted from my ipad.

    Posted from my ipad.

  • velvet goldmine

  • good point!

  • good point

  • and the world is worse off because bryan and eno split, why?

    seems we got a 2 for 1.

  • I think the message is about Julian Assange and all those other "leak" sites, and how they've turned world leaders into "headless chickens."

  • @StoppitProductions Assange himself is running about like a headless chicken these days..

  • dude what the hell is that at the end of the rainbow? anyone else see that thing or am i just trippin?

  • @tuneology - It's the stain left by The Warm Jets. Brilliant track, great album.

  • I love all of Brian's lyrics on the whole of this album; it's all great, and it improved the Velvet Goldmine movie.

  • my favorite song to sing at random moments to confused onlookers...OH NO!

  • Oh cheeky cheeky, oh naughty sneaky.

One of the greatest songs that ever lived. *Lovey Dovey*

  • MORE FOR ME,BLESS MY SOUL

  • When I got this LP a friend of mine and I were getting baked and VERY absorbed in the sounds. As this progressed the "OH NO!" chants and the background wailing was starting to freak us out. It sounded so real and overwhelming!

Turns out 7 friends had been walking up the drive, and hearing us had snuck up to the window. At the chorus they started joining in, wilder and wilder each time!

I only wish you fans could hear how good this sounded blasting through my Advents with a full back-up chorus!

  • Mr Eno makes a very perceptive point, that should you wish to kill someone and keep everything, some 'e know will write songs about it, and that someone could be anyone, so you best a perfect master be and go courting more disaster's. Nice.

  • A great antidote to a severe Ferry infection. I ususaly let the infection run for a week or so then apply the antidote

  • we can always take another kicking. cant we??

  • the spoken word reminds me of the streets.

  • Oh no, Oh no, oh no oh no oh no oh no . . . . .

  • I kept playing the oh no bit all over George bush's second run win speech. There was never no more a perfect song for that moment but my arm got tired at some points to pick up the oh no's in a proper loop. My sister came home durring this exercise and she did not need to ask who won....

  • @moxie96 From wang abuse ?

  • @moxie96 Did your sister participate in your wang exercise?

  • So glad my friends dad was listening to this on the way to college.

  • I just love the piano intro to death

  • has brian always been slightly sinister?

  • @dvargashell yes, I think so

  • Uncle Janis Again hh.hh. Von Ludwigh

  • hehatesyoutoo

  • maybe challenge your perception of organised religion rather than the person it claim's to follow, coz you never know your god's might not like what you write and say either. Blessings on your day.

  • do you really hate jesus ireallyhatejesus?

  • @SuperArtistGirl8

    Anyone who hates me.....relax

  • Brilliant track from an album that was 30 yrs ahead of it's time & yeah Pwecko's assessment of the Ferry take off is spot on, a great piss take!

  • kkkkkhhhhhhaaaaaaaaa

  • and those of you viewing in 360p would have missed the lines " can you this? and that" and " Till they find their way up there"

This is due to the fact that those lines are recorded with Left speaker out of phase with Right speaker. So when you have a + voltage in the left, you have a - voltage in the right of the same amplitude, which is great when listening in stereo, but 360p is mono therefore: + voltage with - voltage = 0 voltage hence no sound.

  • @OfficialNeilGard at what time does this happen in the song?

  • @navyche 2:40 after the word "works" inaudible on 240 p

  • @OfficialNeilGard Cool, I can hear it now (I think I misinterpreted your earlier post. To clarify: you can hear "this and that" at 360p stereo, whereas it's inaudible at 240p mono)

  • @OfficialNeilGard He recorded his stuff back then so you could make a crude "sensesurround sound" by adding a third speaker with both wires attached to the positive poles of the 'b' speaker outlets. It works pretty well on other artists, but sometimes there are some pretty startling effects. His explanation and a diagram were on the back of an early ambient LP.

  • @PRIVATEAYEIEYE interesting stuff :) crude always sounds best :)

  • My two younger sisters used to wonder what the hell was that I was playing coming through my bedroom door when they heard the oh no oh no bits....

  • Love the percussion treatment on this track. It's very unusual.

  • ireallyhateyou!

  • the ending is brilliant

  • ...it's just a dying fictioooooonnn !!

  • I think Brian nicked this from Syd Barrett's unreleased third album-just kidding, but you could almost swear Syd was whispering in his ear when he put this together.

  • "Oh perfect masters/They thrive on disasters/They all look so harmless..." Spent many a day listening to this gem! Long time ago.

  • finkishly brilliant

  • lol this is brilliant shit.i wonder why this album isnt mentioned among the greats

  • does any one recognize this piano as sampled by someone else? i can't put my finger on it!

  • @oliviafogellove I do too, and it's really bugging me what song and who by

  • this was actually written pretty much without thinking about the lyrics, and only afterwards did brian realise that it was obviously about bryan

  • Bryan Ferry gets a headache every time this song is played.

  • May I ask why?

  • Because it's about him.

  • yes! i do agrree listen when he sings:... as you peck your way up there.....aping Ferry'voice... Great!

  • Ah, man...I seriously find that hard to believe. Brian has far too much class for that kind of crap...

  • He admitted it in interviews. He even mimics Ferry in the song.

  • Thanks for the laugh! :-D

  • Weird and marvellous!

  • oh you headless chicken...

  • sooo great !!! i didnt think anyone knew it !!!!!

  • I like marches! He's better than Sousa!

  • Well, I really kinda like yer moniker!

Although I actually hate everyone before and after Jeebus even MORE MORE. You know: Job and Jeremiah, and that fascist Paul.

You probably know this already but Lazarus said to Our Lord, just after being raised from the dead: "OMG Jesus, when you die there's nothing there but blackness and silence!"

And of course Jesus replied: "SHHHH!! Fer Chrissakes don't tell anyone!!"

  • Perfect Masters

    Drive On Desaster

    They Look So Harmless

    Brian Eno Is The Greatest

  • I beleive it goes:

    "O perfect masters,

    They thrive on disasters,

    They all look so harmless"

But I agree - Brian Eno is great

  • J'adore... tout simplement

  • *______________________________*

  • Amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing song.

  • ferry and eno .....a marriage made in heaven ......coud,nt live with him could,nt live without him........... ferry and eno together...nothing better.........produced their greatest works ever

  • I adore this song so much

  • that's rated the sixth weirdest song in the world......

  • What are the ones below that?

  • Great song. I love the Bryan Ferry impression on 'as you make your way up there'.

  • Ha, Eno was so ANGRY at Ferry and his "dictator" like leadership of Roxy.

  • @AirplaneRadio lol. i said bryan and eno!
