  • you gotta give it to darth vader, he was a good shot, i love how calm he stays the whole time (except of course when he gets crashed into by the idiot flying next to him)

  • It is unfortunate that Lucas was never able to capture the same dramatic timbre of this fight in any of the other epic battles. This one, you could feel. It was the most "human" of all the battle scenes. He came close in Episode II with the ground fight, but was in too much of a hurry. This one here stands alone.

  • where'd that tie come from when vader destroys gl?

  • where'd that tie come from when vader destroys gl.

  • Finally, the not-messed with original! Classic!

  • wouldn't it be funny if the uploader was really George Lucas, toying with his fans by showing them the original?

  • I needed this. Thanks.

  • Please Check Out my Star Wars Video?

Please don't watch it if you are a big star wars fan,

it might give your childhood cancer.. :(

  • @Fetcha200 Holy crap that is the most polite warning a star wars fan could ever receive on the net.

  • Cool-at a different angle! :) I like it!

  • I never liked watching this battle as a kid, didnt like seeing the x wings being shot down :(

  • 1 person has a massive brain tumor

  • The force of gravity between Porkins and the Death Star was too strong.

  • @Noodleboy111

Oh my god this is the best comment ever

  • @Noodleboy111

Rebel Commander: "Did you...find Commander Porkin's body?"

Search Team: "I'm sorry sir...all we could find were just small pieces. He was burned to a crisp in the explosion."

Rebel Commander: "Very well, bring me back Porkin's Rinds! We shall give them a delici-ahem... I mean a proper burial."

  • 0:24 is EPIC !!!

  • What do u mean Tlages?

  • My great grandfather was in Gold. RIP.

  • yessss this is the original unaltered golden version

  • What exactly caused porkins to crash? The turbolasers didn't seem to hit him.

  • @Jocko6418 His weight.

  • @Jocko6418 When he destroyed the deflection tower, debris hit his ship causing equipment failure. Then a turbolaser shot him and blew his X wing up

  • What exactly caused porkins to crash? The turbolasers didn't seem to hit him.

  • Star Wars always amazes me, three films that were so good and so creative that they created a whole other universe, the smallest characters have pages and pages of back story and lore, i'm sure someone could tell me the name and backstory of Red Leader and Porkins, I just think its such a phenomenon that will never ever be forgotten.

  • @ARecordMachine well evidently I know Porkins name...but his backstory

  • I think james rolfe said it best "sometimes it looks better if there is actually something in front of the camera"

  • That's no moon..... that's a space station!

  • Luckily i have the original versions! For the win baby!

  • i had friends on that death star ;_;

  • This was probably the ballsiest attack in the history of ballsy attacks.

  • cover me porkins

  • mutton chop[s at 5:59 oh man, the 70s at its height!

  • PULL UP!

    No I'm alri...AHHH!

  • LOL! At 7:57 YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAHHH!!!

  • this still feels more real & exciting than any of the scenes from the new movies...

  • This isn't the original version. I believe this is the 1997 reissue, some of the CG wasn't originally there; like when they lock the S-foils into attack position, for example

  • @Diamhea This is 100% the original version

  • @matbud14 I realized after I posted, I fail

  • @Diamhea As long as you acknowledge you fail, then you have moved closer to WIN Enlightenment.

  • Sorry you are incorrect, it is 100% original version. The scene with lock the s-Foils was always in the original version. If you look at the 97 re-release it is different. check it out for yourself

  • @Jrider72 I know, we already established my fail, don't rub it in!

  • 2:22

    AGH!!!!

  • how come the death star which is made to blow up planets did not just blow up the planet in the way. Why did they have to wait to get into firing range of the moon?

they already blew up one planet earlier because Leia did not give up the moonbase so clearly a planet was not as valueble as the destruction of the moon base.

  • how come the death star which is made to blow up planets did not just blow up the planet in the way. Why did they have to wait to get into firing range of the moon?

  • @sparky303 They probably had a stake in the planet that was in the way.

  • @sparky303 because the big orange planet is gas giant immune 2 death star's laser. But yeah good point. :)

  • was theis the 1977 version

  • This movie changed Cinema

  • 'Red October standing by...'

  • @CynicalVision Big Red, standing by

  • @CynicalVision Red fox standing by...

  • @CynicalVision I would've loved to hear connery say that with a russian accent.

  • I love the acting. You get really involved with each pilot, and feel their plight. I especially like Gold Leader who kamikazes into the Deathstar after being hit. All this and without fancy CG effects.

  • i love this when captain kirk says, scotty, get those shields up, we need more power. Then scotty mumbles some shit and kirk says, khannnn!!!! Great stuff

  • When I was a boy, I first wanted to be a starfighter pilot- Then, I found out how cool it is to be a Jedi Knight.

Even all these years later, its still the greatest film series ever created!

  • @NicholasGeschke I wanted to be a cop becuase of 21 JUMP ST...go figure!!

  • Look at the size of that thing

    THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID !

  • lolz, eject in space!

  • @firebert928 : ah ah ah don't worry, sure he'll be safe ^^

  • wow they let Luke, a guy who has no record into the invasion, damn you are fucking desperate Alliance,

  • Porkins lol

  • (con't) and "Piggy." After the completion of the Empire's Death Star, the Yellow Aces were taken to fully active status and transferred to fill gaps in pilot rosters at other Rebel bases. When Porkins's good friend Wes Janson was taken ill with a case of Hesken Fever, Porkins was given his friend's assignment instead and transferred to Red Squadron, operating out of the Great Temple on Yavin 4.

  • Jek Tono Porkins was a trader and pilot from Bestine IV who, along with the other Bestines, was forced to abandon his homeworld when the Galactic Empire chose it as the site of a new military base. Seeking the opportunity to strike back at the Empire, Porkins joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic and was assigned to Tierfon Rebel Base for pilot training with the Tierfon Yellow Aces. His skill at low-altitude strafing runs and his rotund physique earned him the nickname belly runner ..

  • PKMspainard, putting " FATTY " in there where Tono Porkins was, Was uncalled for, Porkins may have died that day, but he must've been a valued pilot of the rebellion, or how else would it be that he was there, I you had not noticed how business like porkins was, He was used to doing this, so it can be speculated that he was a veteran.

  • please upload Frankenstein uNBOUND

  • whenever im playing battlefield and im about to make a charge i always say to my squad "cover me porkins!" lol

  • Targeting computers are for noobs.

  • is that the original? or the new dvd?

  • im fat

and one day i will be like porkins!!!

  • @IsArtanisAzn The Actor who played him passed away a few years ago.

  • OMG this is the original '77 version!!!

  • Jek Porkins prolly died to get that big mac at the bottom.

  • i feel bad for the rebels that died, especially jenkins

  • @travis321000 Maybe they equipped them with proton torpedoes...or they were going on a suicide mission and they didn't know it.

  • @pkmnspainard2 Im sure they all knew they were going on a suicide mission lol

  • @pkmnspainard2 the Y-wings carried a Complement of Proton Torpedoes as well as proton bombs, plus. remember that Y-wings were designated bombers

  • @pkmnspainard2 The Y-Wings were more stable firing platforms than X-Wings. They also had better shields and armor than the more maneuverable X-Wing.

  • @travis321000 Y wings supposedly have good shielding capabilities. Quite useful when you've got the might of the Empire hot on your ass. Unless, of course, your name is "Nameless Pilot A-Z" and never apply standard logic before dying.

  • @travis321000 The Y-wings have torpedo ports, they aren't just bombers

  • @travis321000 Y-wings were the Alliance heavy weapons fighter, they were designed to carry large payloads of Proton Torpedoes and other armaments basically a Heavy Bomber compared to today were the X-Wing is more of a Fighter/Bomber

  • @travis321000 y-wings carry proton torpedoes as well as x-wings - you can check this - it is in the book about star wars vehicles

  • Nothing like the un-touched original

  • hahahahahaha this is the original one

  • jenkins was one awesome charecter too bad he didnt survive

  • you here this in empire at war when you have red squadron

  • no i'm alright i'm alriiiagaaahahhhhh

  • Cover me Porkins!

  • the fighter jets lazers sound like farts

  • My fav battle and the first Star Wars dogfight I saw as a kid.

  • I like this version better

  • X and Y wings are the starfighters in sci fi history!

  • 2:17 fat man fall down go BOOM!!!

  • red october schtanding by...

  • "...Stay on target.....STAY ON TARGET!!!!..."

  • Porkins was the real hero!

  • @MoneMtwoAbrams Why do you say that? He was the first one who got killed.

  • Look at the size of that thing...Giggity, giggity, goo

  • If you watch the DVD Special Edition, you never hear the music, in 1:11 - 1:26, as the rebels start their attack run. It is blocked by increasing the engine volume, and it's another fuck-up Lucas did to the original series.

  • There can't be fire in space , but otherwise good.

  • sweet

    the old one, love it.

  • @coopmen me too...

  • Hay that fatty made this movie possible, either way, I thought I'd never find the old version of the battle. I only have the new and improved version. The only thing I like about the new one is that they improved the quality, graphics and they replaced Sebastion Shaw face with Hayden Christensen face on Episode 6.

  • wow the original non special edition one. its kind of refreshing to see this.

  • Yes! Finally, the original I watched. The models actually looked better than the CG ones, the ones that were standing by.

  • Awesome battle sequence, ad this is the orginal version with models. Old fashioned special effects for the win, baby!

  • you are quite right...

  • @desotowrong got to say I do like the 1998 version. least you can see the fighters take off instead of lights in the distance lol.

long live the Empire, cause in the end it wins any ways :)

  • @desotowrong Shows how good George Lucas really is. All he needs is a Green Screen Pyro tatics and hand made models on a stand and he can make a 5 star movie!

  • watch the family guy version soooooooooooooo funny.

  • All Wings Report In:

  • @WaterfallChunin

    Red Three standing by.

  • Red 8 standing by

  • Red 5 standing by :P

  • Grand Moff Tarkin:You may fire when ready.

    (Imperial Engineer pulls lever)

  • just a question since im a noob at Star wars tech. but how would Y-wing Proton bombs be able to get in the exhaust port? proton missiles are self-propelling, and it would reach the reactor, but a bomb?

  • @watchinghawk ummmm i think it makes an electrical ball which causes an explositions when it hits something(im a star wars noob too)

  • Y-Wings at Yavin all had proton torpedos. The only reason they are doing the bombing run si because well.. they are bombers, so they would no doubt have far better targeting computers than the X-Wings would have.

  • Models = win.

  • very interesting. when my dad saw this in 1977 he was amazed by the special effects. and over 30 years it still holds up. ok its not perfect but its still great to watch

  • many people dont know but the Alliance outnumbered the empire's tie fighters 4 to 1 but but Vader's hand picked elite black squadron make of of some of the best pilots in the empire nearly beat the alliance

  • Actually that isn't entirely correct. You don't see it in the movie, but it has been doccumented in comics, books and games, that there was much more to the Battle of Yavin. There were in fact multiple stages of the assault, including the presence of a Star Destroyer, and several dozens of fighters. That stage took place before the NR fleet made it to the surface. THOSE 8 fighters that you do see in the movie, were Vader's Elite fighters, so you are partially correct.

  • ya thats true but also one thing many people dont know is that the Death star had thousands of Tie fighters that could have easily been deployed but Moff Tarkin didnt consider the alliance to be any threat and didnt care. Vader knew that there was a danger and technically having no authority over Tarkin(Vader and Tarkin really didnt like each other) had to fight with the only pilots he had control over in his personal tie fighter squadron.

  • Cool, the original as seen in the theater. Real models, none of that CGI crap.

  • @Jonee90210

Some scenes benefited from CG, looked more dynamic. It really depends how you use the CG.

  • "They came from behind!" BOOOM xD

  • Thats what she said

  • @pkmnspainard2 Look at the size of that thing

  • @davethecritter Cut the chatter davethcritter

  • @lilbrothaaa

there's an easter egg in Warcraft 3 in which the Gyrocopter's death yell is that quote

  • @TheChoujinVirus
