Aside from that, we're talking apples and oranges. It's one thing to do honorable fighting by rules in a ring - a contest of skills in which dirty fighting has no place. It's entirely different from being attacked by a psycho thug in the street. You think it's not nice to save your life by fighting dirty against a thug who attacks you?
and for guys, or those of us that consider ourselves warriors...i wont eye gouge, bite, groin strike, i wont do anything like that personally, because i feel like, if i have to resort to that..im pretty much pathetic and i really need to get to work. It also motivates me to train much harder on basic techniques...cause i want everything i do to work quickly and terribly(to the attacker)
You know when i was a kid my dad told me " when you fight do whatever it takes to win, bite, scratch, pull hair, eye gouge.Cause they are doing everything in there power to kill you and you'd better be prepared and doing everything you can to do the same." I'm sorry but street fight is no rules. And I ain't gettin hurt anymore than I have to. The second a man tries to attack me, he asked for every mean nasty thing I can dish out.
You know brazilian jujitsu is great for what it is. But small guys like me it's not really practical. Street fights are over in seconds not minutes. If you go longer than 2 minutes your alot of trouble. BJJ relies alot on your opponent making that mistake that allows you to end it. Royce Gracie fought for 45 minutes in the ring once that I know of. In the street some guys buddies are going to kick your teeth in while your working on one guy. It's not practical for street fighting.
Royce Gracie fought sakuraba for 90 minutes...but thats in a ring...against another trained fighter..not on the street against some thug..and it works great for small guys...Royce is a small guy...i used to roll with a 16 year old 110 pound guy who kicked my butt for a long time before i could hang with him...and we werent in a BJJ school..we knew acouple guys who trained in it and were pretty good so we learned from them..
You're right. Going to the ground intentionally in a street fight is ridiculous. What if the guy pulls a knife while you're grappling with him? And what if he has buddies ready to pounce on you while you're on the ground, busy applying an armbar or whatever. No, on the street, striking hard and fast and then escape is the best bet.
Including yourself? Then you weren't involved in real life and death encounters - maybe macho contests, but not the real deal. Either that, or you are incredibly lucky that your attackers had no weapons, and also that they had no buddies on the scene to pounce on you while you took the other guy to the ground.
I teach Gracie Jiu-jitsu also as well as Kenpo and while valuable it simply is not practical on the street. I have demonstrated this many times to Jiu-jitsu artists.
trust me BJJ works...ive proven it...others have proven it....people dont ever let anone tell you something doesnt work when it has been proven to work over and over again...
A small woman should intentionally take a big male attacker to the ground??? I agree that this video shows fighting that is too stylized - people should train to strike hard and fast to an attacker's eyes, throat and groin, in that order or priority - but at least she's striking the guy, which is a whole lot better than grappling with him!
see thats a misconception BJJ has alot of stand up...and usually the woman wont take it to the ground the attacker will force her there...where she better know what to do...if she trains in some sort of karate or taekwondo or kempo, anything like that..its over
If she is forced to the ground, most traditional martial arts are useless, including karate and BJJ: she better know how to fight ferociously, i.e. gouge his eyes, smash his trachea, rip his testicles, and bite chunks out of his face. If she instead tries to grapple traditional BJJ style (armbars and choke holds etc.) she will be killed.
no..besides BJJ does not apply as a "traditional" style...the best thing BJJ offers for anti-rape etc. is the hip movements to escape a larger attacker trying to hold you down...plus BJJ does include elbows, knees, fist and palm striking..low kicks, things like that..any any self defense class will tell you to bite, scratch, eye gouge...thats not something you really have to train at
You could not be more wrong about dirty fighting. It definitely *is* something that you get better and better at the more you train at it. Google Ki Chuan Do or Attackproof. But it depends on what you're training for: contests of skill and strength with rules, or fighting to save your life and the lives of your loved ones.
yeah well when it comes to someone i care about...the .45 does the talking...and hey if you wanna gouge and bite fine im all for that...its just personally i want my techniques to be good enough so i dont have to resort to that with anyone...i would if i had to..but i would also curse myself for not being a better fighter...
That's fine, to each his own. Being well-trained in dirty tactics doesn't mean that you have to use them, it just means that you'll be good at it if you choose to. Anyway, BJJ is a great sport, and its practisioners are usually in terrific physical shape, but remember there are big differences between sportive fighting and fighting to save your life.
0:25-26. I'm okay, just ko'ed. Fine. Got my arse beaten by a woman.

Street fight you don't want to go to the ground. That's a last resort. Beat him and get the hell out of there. Might have buddies.

Paul Vunak said it best, " He who hits the mostest,
firstest wins". It's really about that simple.
Hit hard hit em' fast' hit em alot, and get out.
The longer your in a fight the more chance of you
gettin' hurt, tired, somebody trying to help.
Stomp em' and run end of story on all the BJJ, and
ground stuff.

Gracie JiuJitsu is the absolute best on the street, which has been proven many times not only by the Gracies, but many other people including myself

yes it does. But it is not the first choice. BJJ is very good
for what it is. The same with Kenpo or taekwondo, or any
number of styles. My thing is don't go to the ground, but in
a last resort.

i particularly like the idea of throwing a guy against a tree with a nroken branch on it and impaling him
