Ian had a bass baritone voice, and that's why Hooky is gonna have problems with his Joy Division and the Light,He is even trying to sing like Curtis,I've heard from a music mag.Hooky was an average bass player at best and an even worse soloist, only just useful as a backing vocalist, so to try and sing like Ian is an insult,by the way-Durutti Column start every gig with The Missing Boy,as a tribute to Ian Curtis. What could possibly be wrong with that?? Lisa x
@jasonledyard1 actually, Durutti Column are quite great (as is Joy Division). it's easy to associate them, unless you think same era, same label, same movement, same city, similar ethos, similar sound are enough to comparatively talk about bands.
Big loss of a great musician. Where the fuck are the managers when you need them. The same with Curt Cobain, great talent shit management. Does anybody look after these people!!
@wisprworld WHAT A FUCKING IDIOTIC TO SAY.YOU LOOK AFTER YOUR SELF IN THIS WORLD IF YOU CANT WELL,YOUR FUCKED.BLAMING OTHER PEOPLE IS SOMETHING A CHILD DOES IN INFANT SCHOOL.SIMPLISTIC AND STUPID.
I love this song, thanks for posting this. I have just noticed he 3 pictures of Ian during his childhood at 0.36 eerily look very similar to some of my school / teenage pictures. I was born in late 1954 so I was about the same age as him. I was lucky enough to see JD in 1979, they had a profound effect on me and I have been a fan ever since. Best band ever, RIP Ian
The BNP is for bringing in non-Whites to rape your White women and destroy your cities, just like every other party! If Brits don't stop supporting nonsense like the BNP your country will be a Muslim and non-White shithole with Whites dead or enslaved. Forget the BNP, support the Insurgent and save the White race!
Only just descovered this song, and cant stop listening to it! Excellent video tribute as well! For some reason hearing Ian voice at the start puts the hairs up on my neck!
ians lyrics where amazing had such depth and poetry in his songs. i personnaly liked his voice, it had a strong deep quality to it which in many odd ways mixed with the frail vunrabilty of his in depth lyrics. his deep raw voice matched the lyrics. amazing truely my most favourite signer of all time. he wasnt even that famous when he was alive but he is now in death. i will never forget joy division
Such a tragedy happend 29 years ago, i wish it was a different story, your memory and lyrics as still alive and make me and so many people come alive with emotion.
Don't you mean "Durutti" !!!! haha if you look in the video description you can see i mentioned the song title. What a knob you are... made me laugh though thanks
greate video. I used to listen to any old shit then i got unknown pleasures on 18th birthday. i cant listen to anything else now!!! JD changed my life.
He had psychological problems that weren't helped by the amount of different drugs he was prescribled....this isnt an excuse for some of what happened...but it must have f--ked with his mind at times and no doubt contributed to his untimely death !
ian curtis could've beat up his wife... and fuck every groupie around and have twenty children with different women... it wouldn't matter... he is fucking IAN CURTIS... how can some of you people not love him. just listen... that private life who cares... just that boring and useless private life... lame idea of putting that "private life"-shadow in front of the beautiful rockstarimage that you can have of him...
He had a medical condition which little was known about at the time and he was given the wrong drugs which made him moody and drowsy alot of the time.
I wondered that, is touching from a distance BIAS? Or maybe its the real deal and Torn apart is a lighter version of what happened... This is why I can't decide whether I like the man!
He was an amazing wordsmith, but he wasn't a good man, He was an extraordinary character, but, as a man I don't respect him, as an artist, He was breathtaking, and its why im listening to this music right now. wasnt a good man? know him did ya? alls we really know is that he had epilepsy which ment he couldnt perform without jeopardising his health or look after his kid. so he performed jeopardising his health so he could at least support his kid dunno about you but seems like he was quite a good man
Well, from what I read in Debbie Curtis's Biography of the man, he didn't seem at all nice. I like his creative mind but after that... I mean cheating on your wife when you have a child with her, or not telling anyone about her pregnancy? Keeping her locked away from whats going on with your life? stealing drugs from the elderly? stealing alcohol from old ladies who work in off licenses? who are sweet enough to come down and chat with them and offer them sweets? driving away from an ex drummer?
This is so moving, amazing. This man is an archetype. I think, with some responsibility,he is the first, since Holderlin and Nietzsche. We'll not gonna find someone like him for a long time.
Watch with obsession Some accident of beauty Try to capture As the light begins to fail Shapes to compose Shadows of frailty The dream is better Dissolves into softness But the end The end is always the same ... Its wonderful, we still remember, Ian.. :,-)

It's Vini Reilly paying tribute to his deceased friend, Ian Curtis, isn't it? Comparisons serve no purpose as their musics are so different.

Durutti Column are really very bad compared to Ian Curtis's Warsaw or Joy Division. I don't know why they would even be associated.
I am constantly surprised by the number of really crappy bands that cite JD as an influence. :(

Ian Curtis was a fast tracked genius,
the band were not in the same world with him.
Ian was into Nazi symbolism & idiology in a big way.
The name Joy Division was Nazi, from a regiment of whores kept in the prison camps.
I knew them late 70's early 80's.
"you all forgot Rudolf Hess" Electric circus Collyhurst Oct 1977. I was there, the same night elvis died.
Hail Ian, Hail Hess.
