@ThePredatorxp Yes they are a facinating snake. Have you had experience handling fast elapids? If not may I suggest starting with a less challenging/lethal elapid to get some experience first.
Well, this species should be handled by experienced people who are familiar with the snake so that the risk of getting bites will be reduced. They are not as awful as many people think, although it is highly dangerous and should be handled with caution.
@fearingpredators Yes. Experiernce is a must. This is typical black mamba behavour. When the feel cornered/threatened/provoked they quickly strike at the threat. Best thing to do with them is to back away slowly and give them an escape route. They would rather flee than fight but if they can't get around you they will go through you. In captivity slow, steady movement will help it keep calm.
@fearingpredators Well I have heard that the LD50 isn't the lowest among snakes. But it is very aggressive unlike kraits. And even though the LD50 doesn't compare to the Belcher's Sea Snake (Which are the deadliest by way of LD50) Black Mambas are aggressive and cause the second most deaths by snakes just behind Cobras. They also eject a lot of venom when they bite, and can kill you in 15 minutes.
Yes,they are very dangerous.LD50 doesn't fully indicate the danger of a species, just like you said, there are numerous factors which are also decisive.Russell's viper and saw-scaled viper cause the most fatalities and Puff adder causes the most in Africa.Black mambas don't cause a lot of deaths compared with many other snakes, but they are known to cause a rapid death time, same as the king cobra, due to their large size(high strike position, large venom dose etc)
The example you gave is right. That's just like coral snake and rattlesnake/lancehead.One shows lower value in LD50 whereas the other one is more aggressive if provoked and have far more venom dose.
@24TheBasketball Yah I don't use LD50 alone to determine deadliness. Clinical studies show the BM has a rapidly fatal bite if untreated and it's very rare for them to give dry bites. LD50 tests are done on rodents so the toxicity to humans will likely be different. In a clinical study by DR. Davidson, on top of their neuro/cardiotoxic venom, some bites have caused accute renal failure. Their bites are a true medical emergency often needing a resperator and antivenom.
@AdrenalineDye youuu dumbooooooooooo if we pay money they ll let u to take it here..my friend got a cobra....just shut ur dumb head get lost byeeeeeeeeeeeee
wtf pet black mamba. Kinda like having an atom bomb in the living room, when u have guests tell em to look but don't tuch it and for heaven's sake don't fart.
People who are saying "the snake is going to get out, and kill you" or something along that line have no clue what a snake is like.
Never would a snake actually seek out a human to kill because we are far too large to devour. They are not stupid, they know that attacking us is useless.
Better have a damn good top lid on that man. I wouldn't fuck with that. We had a baby rattlesnake in a 10 gallon who broke out and nearly bit my mom. But that's a black mamba. Whole other story.
The black mamba is the 2nd most dangerous in my book. The Australian sea snake has venom that kills you In minutes. However black mamba venom can make wonders in medicine. From numbing pain to fighting cancer. Venom in general. Last a snake isn't poisonous it's VENOMOUS there is a difference

Are you serious? Black mambas are actually one of the few snakes that will chase down anything that it interprets as threat. They can also move at 12MPH which is ridiculously fast for a snake. They are known to attack humans that have intruded their space from 30 ft away. I love these snakes but I wouldn't keep one in my house. It's one of the few animals that isn't afraid of you as much as you are of it.
Your "pet" mamba just busted his mouth. Not the first time I've seen that behavior. Hope you have a hide box in his enclosure ... otherwise, you risk serious damage to the animal.
I used to own 3 black mambas ... which at the time (mid 90's), was the largest breeding collection in the U.S., and I can say with certainty, that out if the 100+ venomous reptiles in our collection ... they were the most aggressive!
Dude if that viv is inside your house I pray to god the thing never gets out. Awesome example of the power of nature but you got some serious balls keeping that as a pet. The speed of that strike is INCREDIBLE!!!! Hope he never gets out!
Getting it fired up probably isn't the best idea... wait unil you forget you left the enclosure open. Handsome snake though, you're lucky to see it so close, love the set-up too.
Yeah. He mad.
