  • Yes, the word in the middle is indeed 'Meherban'. It's a reference to Mian Meherban Khan, who taught classical music to Farida ji's older sister Mukhtar Begum in 1920s Amritsar. This Shankara bandish is said to have been written by Mian Sahib himself. Shankara is also one of Farida ji's favourite raags -- she practiced it a lot in her childhood.

  • Such a beautiful composition and gorgeous singing; lost words to praise...kia baat!1 Subhanallah!!

  • This is the feminine version of Shankara, very embellished, lots of meends. Very unusual rendition, but very pleasing. Note the emphasis on nishad on "utaar" and the way she weaves her musical phrasing around nishad, which makes the raga sound less somber and more mellifluous.

  • Very nice and soothing !
