Some theory you got there. Yet, to me, the pause in this version always made me think that Bono, at that moment on the stage decided that he wasn't telling the truth by saying 'I'm not afraid to die'. Since he follows the pause with the line 'I'm afraid to die, not afraid to live', it seems he realises he's getting old. At least, that is my most humble opinion, of course.

I must admit, I thought U2 were beginning to lose their impact live but this performance has 100% convinced me otherwise!
