I sometimes heat the water in a tea kettle, then add to the crockpot, it cooks faster. I heard if you add a whole potato it collects the gas. So you won't have the farts.
My mum leaves them in water for about 3 hours before putting them in the pot and adds boiling water. They are usually done in 3 hours at high setting. We got a newer Crock Pot (programable) and it took forever. 4 hours in high and we had to switch to the older one for another 90 mins.
I love pinto beans but I need more seasoning, i.e. onions, garlic, with green bell peppers sauted in olive oil then adding my soaked beans with some kind of seasoning like canjun seasoning (no meat for me either) and mushrooms, with salt and pepper and a dash of hot sauce and letting my beans simmer...now that's a tasty pot of pinto beans to me. Otherwise I find this too bland and unappetizing. But to each his own. I still gave your video a thumbs up : )
nice recipe :) i like mine personally with lots of cilantro. and lots of bacon. you know youve done a good job it the beans arent too watery and are nice and thick.
and if you eat pinto beans with rice, it gives your body the full protein and amino acids it requires. its super nutritious!
btw i think we sort because halves won't cook correctly, and i think the ugly dark ones may taste funny or they might be hard,
@crazitaco Thank you! You have to be right on the sorting. I once ate some beans that just didn't seem to turn out with crunchy halves and when I asked if the cooker had sorted them, she said no. Why would you do that?
@Wario567 Naw, I always add the salt before I cook them. You probably can taste more salt if you waited until the end, because it doesn't really have time to dissolve or cook in, but I like to add mine after I put the water in.
@Wario567 I was always told that adding salt to bean when cooking will make the skin tough. But I am not sure how that would work out in a slow cooker.
Oh yeah! There's nothing like a pot of pinto beans cooked with some fatback. Then a little cornbread, fried potatoes, and a sliced tomato or onion on the side. I prefer tomato, because I hate raw onions. Macaroni and cheese is also a good add-on side dish; however, you can't eat pintos without cornbread.
I love beans and eat them every day with my lunch and for dinner straight up and have been doing so for over a year now. They are indeed easy on the budget and easy on the waistline to boot! Just call me Mr. FUME!
unfried beans can be eaten in a bowl with some of their own liquid. you can add fresh tomatoes, cilantro, onions, lime juice , jalapenos and some cheese. and enjoy with some warm tortillas.
Very good. You can also add diced onion diced tomatoes and cilantro to your bowl when you serve the beans or you can add some salsa on them. Thats the way we grew up eating them.
We eat pinto beans like a soup. Add pico de gallo salsa. A "bit" of grated cheese (easy cheesey) and eat with a whole wheat flour tortilla. Corn tortillas are also good. Filtered water makes a big difference in taste.

I will agree that beans are indeed good for you. The problem is many associate pinto beans with poverty, however beans are good no matter your financial situation. Beans with onion, salt, pepper and corn bread is delicious, nutritious and good for your health.
Hey Milen, did you have to use filtered water, if from the tap, wouldn't the heat from the crockpot kill any undesirables in the water and is the finished time faster in a regular pot that crock pot? Thanks for the vid.
:) I have this bad habit of filtering the tap water because the water here tastes much better after running it though a charcoal filter. They put a lot of chlorine or something in it, and there is also a lot of calcium. So its more of a mineral/chemical reason for filtering the water rather than just running the tap. I have found that most crock pots and the crock pots with the electric timing are pretty close temperature wise to the high and low settings offered on the standard model.
I like how some of the digital are shaped to accommodate birds like ducks, chickens, and turkeys. Cooking a turkey or chicken is pretty easy like this too!
Hello Kim. Well, pepper and salt are enough. I really like basic food. You can always put the beans in a burrito and add some freshly cut onions/cheese.
Damn, before he started taking I thought this was a hot chick.

Use V8 juice instead of water, put them in the blender after cook time, add a shot of veg oil, simmer to thicken and you have refried beans.
