  • Damn, before he started taking I thought this was a hot chick.

  • this guy seems really nice! i want to hang out with him!

  • can you add a different oil like olive oil instead?

  • @jptl2 Absolutly not, doing so may result in the end of the world as we know it!

  • do you need to stir it every once in awhile?

  • AWESOME video! Simple, straight to the point, and detailed, the way ALL "How-To" videos should be!

  • I sometimes heat the water in a tea kettle, then add to the crockpot, it cooks faster. I heard if you add a whole potato it collects the gas. So you won't have the farts.

  • My mum leaves them in water for about 3 hours before putting them in the pot and adds boiling water. They are usually done in 3 hours at high setting. We got a newer Crock Pot (programable) and it took forever. 4 hours in high and we had to switch to the older one for another 90 mins.

  • Thank you so much for this great tutorial...you are way too awesome. =)

  • Nice video! Take Care!

  • This is by far the BEST video on simple preperation of beans! No cheesy music. Just basic instruction for a basic recipe!

  • @MrTacobellman Thanks!

  • @Milen575 You should make more videos :)

  • Use V8 juice instead of water, put them in the blender after cook time, add a shot of veg oil, simmer to thicken and you have refried beans.

  • I love pinto beans but I need more seasoning, i.e. onions, garlic, with green bell peppers sauted in olive oil then adding my soaked beans with some kind of seasoning like canjun seasoning (no meat for me either) and mushrooms, with salt and pepper and a dash of hot sauce and letting my beans simmer...now that's a tasty pot of pinto beans to me. Otherwise I find this too bland and unappetizing. But to each his own. I still gave your video a thumbs up : )

  • great vid. no more can beans for me.what about blackeyed peas thxs

  • It was nice to hear some good sense of humor on a cooking video. By the way, what size quarts crock pot is the one you used?

  • This recipe is fantastic! Thank you. Adding the seasoning before you cook and sorting is key.

  • nice recipe :) i like mine personally with lots of cilantro. and lots of bacon. you know youve done a good job it the beans arent too watery and are nice and thick.

and if you eat pinto beans with rice, it gives your body the full protein and amino acids it requires. its super nutritious!

btw i think we sort because halves won't cook correctly, and i think the ugly dark ones may taste funny or they might be hard,

  • @crazitaco Thank you! You have to be right on the sorting. I once ate some beans that just didn't seem to turn out with crunchy halves and when I asked if the cooker had sorted them, she said no. Why would you do that?

  • I always hear that your not supposed to add salt until after the beans are cooked.

    is this something you do??

  • @Wario567 Naw, I always add the salt before I cook them. You probably can taste more salt if you waited until the end, because it doesn't really have time to dissolve or cook in, but I like to add mine after I put the water in.

  • @Wario567 I was always told that adding salt to bean when cooking will make the skin tough. But I am not sure how that would work out in a slow cooker.

  • gee thanks for the tip about sorting.. i always assumed they were all ok... hmm guess those black beans in the chick peas were black beans after all.

  • ugly beans..... haha!

  • Oh yeah! There's nothing like a pot of pinto beans cooked with some fatback. Then a little cornbread, fried potatoes, and a sliced tomato or onion on the side. I prefer tomato, because I hate raw onions. Macaroni and cheese is also a good add-on side dish; however, you can't eat pintos without cornbread.

  • I love beans and eat them every day with my lunch and for dinner straight up and have been doing so for over a year now. They are indeed easy on the budget and easy on the waistline to boot! Just call me Mr. FUME!

  • Ugly beans :0 lol

  • unfried beans can be eaten in a bowl with some of their own liquid. you can add fresh tomatoes, cilantro, onions, lime juice , jalapenos and some cheese. and enjoy with some warm tortillas.

  • i have the same green drainy thing at my house! very authentic LOL :)

  • Nice lid Mile!

  • i wish my man cooked.

  • Very good. You can also add diced onion diced tomatoes and cilantro to your bowl when you serve the beans or you can add some salsa on them. Thats the way we grew up eating them.

  • Beans have 10times more protein then meat and they don't harm your body!!

    I love vegetarian plates!

  • da ugly beans are da magic beans

  • add corn bread, vidilia onion and hot sause

  • Why can't you eat the ugly beans?

  • We eat pinto beans like a soup. Add pico de gallo salsa. A "bit" of grated cheese (easy cheesey) and eat with a whole wheat flour tortilla. Corn tortillas are also good. Filtered water makes a big difference in taste.

  • I will agree that beans are indeed good for you. The problem is many associate pinto beans with poverty, however beans are good no matter your financial situation. Beans with onion, salt, pepper and corn bread is delicious, nutritious and good for your health.

  • I saw my grand ma doing this since I was a little kid, I finally understand what she was doing and I'm 24 now.

  • Good job! Next time u could add some onion, or spring onion.. then make some jiffy corn bread,, and maybe some neck bones

  • Hey Milen, did you have to use filtered water, if from the tap, wouldn't the heat from the crockpot kill any undesirables in the water and is the finished time faster in a regular pot that crock pot? Thanks for the vid.

  • :) I have this bad habit of filtering the tap water because the water here tastes much better after running it though a charcoal filter. They put a lot of chlorine or something in it, and there is also a lot of calcium. So its more of a mineral/chemical reason for filtering the water rather than just running the tap. I have found that most crock pots and the crock pots with the electric timing are pretty close temperature wise to the high and low settings offered on the standard model.

  • I like how some of the digital are shaped to accommodate birds like ducks, chickens, and turkeys. Cooking a turkey or chicken is pretty easy like this too!

  • nice vid man. good job!

  • Awesome! I will be gassing it up in no time!

  • I feel bad for the ugly beans :(

  • i dont... at least they wont be boiled in water for hours lol

  • @Shugerbuger Long live! I'm going to start a facebook group for the 'ugly beans'..

  • Great Job! Did you use two cameras for this video or did you just do a good job editing making it look like a muticamera shoot?

  • One camera. :) It would have been much easier with two.

  • Actually you should add salt after cooking!

  • I thought that you were not suppose to put salt in it till the end? Arnt they tough?

  • Not at all :)

  • ummmm...ummm,...yummy, but don't ya eat your beans with some of the stock?! Stock's as tasty as the beans are, anyways 5 stars for ya Milen575! = )

  • Thanks!

  • that was really good

    thanks for the tutorial

    had canned pinto beans

    but never home cooked

  • You've never had home cooked beans???

  • if you dont add hamhocks or bacon, how did you season them?

  • Hello Kim. Well, pepper and salt are enough. I really like basic food. You can always put the beans in a burrito and add some freshly cut onions/cheese.

  • Yeah, beans in a burrito with cheese and how about some homemade, stoneground salsa?!! = )

  • sounds good

  • Thanks the video was great.

    :)

  • Thanks very much for the video, it helped a lot.

    :)

  • thank you very much for this ^^

i am very happy i can cook this.

i had a crock pot all these years, and never knew what to do with it :P

  • Very informative! MATT
