sylvanro, let me know if you want me to take a picture from that exact place that water tower shot picture was taken. I get back to G-view at least once a year.....
Man, I know RIGHT where this is. At 19:13 in the movie, the camera looks south, right through the Water Tower, with the Horseheaven Hills in the background. You lived right on that circle drive that goes around the water tower. Small World, my friend!
I think it is near a water tower. I don't remember much about Grandview since I was so young. I don't even know if the Pastime is still there. My sister eventually had the Brunswick in Toppenish but recently sold it.
The water tower is on the west side of town, big silver thing, supported on giant pillars. A real landmark. I grew up just a short distance away too--right on Stassen Way! When did your family leave Grandview?
@sylvanro Hi, me again. Yeah, right at 19:15 you can see the water tower. The film is shot at that point looking south and you can see the Horseheaven Hills in the background. The street goes completely around the water tower at that point, and the vantage point is at the NE corner of that circular drive. Very cool!
It was taken in about 1951. The baby in diapers is me. There is also some footage from about 1955 when I'm about four years old. The other boy is my brother Roger. The girl is my sister Darlene. The adults are my mom Nellie (also called Noodle) and my Dad Bill (H.E. Rogers). My mom had the "Pastime" in Grandview. Later we moved to Toppenish and they had the Brunswick until they divorced probably by 1960. We are all Rogers.
I thought that was about the date, by the car in the background. Very cool. As you can see from my signature, I am from Grandview, and grew up there (from 50s to the 70s). I remember the Pastime well, it was a landmark of the downtown area--I guess it still survives? Where in Grandview was that video taken?
Interesting.

If you look at my post (and actually read it), I was objecting to his use of "always." When I grew up in Gview there was NONE of that.
