at last one can see gerard butler's acting skills but all the credits should go to paul black who did an amazing work here. he wrote an intense story and he directed the actors just the way to get really the best out of them. two thumbs up.
dear mr paul black. if you need a film-editor please feel free to contact me. i am always looking for interesting stories to work at, inspite of all the mainstream stuff i usually work for. pays the rent though but... ;-)
Pure dramatic. What a great and amazing performance. Just incredible. In my opinion he should do more this kind of movies. / Wahnsinnige Dramatik. Was für eine tolle Darbietung von Gerry. Einfach unglaublich. Meiner Meinung nach, sollte er mehr solcher Filme drehen.
Oh wow. Great job. What amazing acting by Gerard Butler. The ending left me watching between my fingers while freaking out then what happened made me jump. I can't believe it, so sad!
wow. i am crying right now. i was ok through the film until the very end. then my heart started pounding,- then my mouth was haning open in shock,- then came the waterworks....
It really is beautiful, I was moved to tears while watching. May I ask what you were thinking when writing such a raw piece? What was it based on? You are very lucky to have gotten an actor like Gerry. Thank you and I wish you the best!
@americabrown I agree that it is one of Gerry's best performances! You must be proud that over ten years later it is still being adored by many. Congratulations on the awards by the way!
Paul, may I ask what prompted you to select Gerry Butler as your main character? Had you seen something or was he completely an unknown face to you? I personally love his work in "The Jury" which shows of some powerful scenes as well. I also adore "The Cherry Orchard." Thanks for sharing this! You did an incredible job! I just wish it were a full-length feature though I don't mean to undermine the brilliance of this amazing short.
@JolSummerville He was recommended by a mutual friend and when we met I knew he was right. Thanks for taking the time to watch it. I think it's one of Gerry's best.
@americabrown It is certainly one of the best I ever seen. It is so intense and so full of emotions. By the way the jury and dear franky are another two great movies done by GB.
Either way it was dramatic, everyone knows a child is what the parent normally strives for, I still think the film was great but if the little girl had shot herself then it would have been more dramatic, it would have torn him more.
@sweetvenom1122 it would've been an obvious twist. the second she took the gun in her hands, in your head you knew it was gonna end in disaster with her shooting herself, but it was worse because he ended up getting shot despite everything he worked for
@EuropaBloke I referrenced the tune, and it is Thievery Corporation before they went "Indie", here in America, and of course, the trail ends there.. ;(

i jumped at the end. i barely cry during movies, and i was so close to crying...i wish it was longer. i'm still thinking about it now, wow...fucking incredible, and i know exactly how this man feels, and what he's going through. i'm a writer as well, and it a very lonely hurtful life. this is probably the best short film ever.
Bless you for uploading this (one of my all-time favourite short films). I haven't seen it for a few years and was hoping someone might have put it on youtube, but honestly didn't expect to find it here. Thank-you, americabrown.
"Please!" is a single HIT !! ;D ( Too bad Hollywood takes the EXPENSIVE route to express such simple INTRICACIES of Human Nature)...If I offended anyone with this comment, NO HARM MEANT.
are you trying to be funny with the "mind blowing" thing? i know this short film is dramatic and Gerard Butler is amazing in it, but seriously, you write something like that and i'll be rofling till the cows come home. i laugh at anything. ANYTHING.
incredible acting on gerard's part! i was in tears just a few seconds after starting it...the desperation in the beginning just felt so raw. amazing amazing short!
The movie is so beutiful. Gerry showed the frustration, rage, compassion and love to name a few feelings in a such a beautiful way. We are so blessed to have him as an actor.
Yeah, I know. You don't have to convince me. But in several interviews which are from the time before 300 I read lately they call him "unknown" and seemed to be astonished that he delivered good acting, so this is where I came from. ;-)
it left me with my hand over my mouth, kids and guns gets me everytime. set the scene fairly well. thought the acting was very good on all parts, written well. certainly good dialogue from what ive in a lot of short movies. the characters were believable.
when u noticed that everything started to goes on your side,it can suddenly change opposite way,unfortunately...very impressive and so sad...but great short film... thank u for sharing..
Holy shit! I really thought the kid was going to shoot herself. I mean it was sad that he died, but if the kid died I probably would have cried. Great film.
Damn that ending is fucked up. That makes me sad and pissed off at the same time. Thats how life is though, it fucks you bad like that and damnit ughhh. Why not leave it a happy ending?
Hi. I made this film for £10,000. Shoot ratio was 2:1 (ie. Gerry did everything in one or two takes). Here are the best bits: No rehearsals. The road rage scene was entirely hand held. The core action of that scene was literally two takes. The wife's monologue was one long take. The tears are real. In that scene, when we shot Gerry's side, it was pitch black outside. That is the magic of great cinematography, by Erik Wilson, who was 22 at the time.
10, 000 is a lot of money for someone like me who's just getting into directing, but in the scope of things and the final product it was a deal. Amazing job. way to set the standard.
Wow I've never seen such a film...made me jump out of my chair when the girl turned the gun towards her face. Sheesh...didn't expect the ending. Nice. But sad, shows how life can be, sometimes it just doesn't go the way you planned...all the little coincidences...all the impact of every little decision. Again, really nice. Youtube doesn't do the cinematography justice.
I'm really glad this didn't have a happy ending --would have suffered greatly from sappiness and melodrama. Nice performances and good choice at the end.
i jumped a little when the girl aimed at herself ... i thought she was gonna shoot herself accidentally. D: beautiful short film, but so saddening ... eh. but aren't the greatest films the ones with sorrow.?
I found this video 3 years ago and then I couldn't find it again till now! Yay for youtube!!! Thanks for posting...and that little girl is an idiot...
wow, this is a good film... when he really realy wanted to die, death wouldn't come to him and when he reagained his happiness and felt the great desire to live, death took him away- wow! amazing and sad film
"i'm a novalist" is that how things theses days work... just put a gun to your head and get what ever you want.... but make sure you tell them what you are.... "im a sales associate", "I'm a youtuber" boom, lol great video.... 5/5 stars
electromikey - You are getting angry. Perhaps some of my poetry may help?: From time to time, the tried-in-battle their gray steeds set to gallop amain, and ran a race when the road seemed fair. From time to time, a thane of the king, who had made many vaunts, and was mindful of verses, stored with sagas and songs of old, bound word to word in well-knit rime, welded his lay; this warrior soon of Voltar's quest right cleverly sang, in well-ranged words, of the warlike deeds
This was incredible!

"i'm a novalist" is that how things theses days work... just put a gun to your head and get what ever you want.... but make sure you tell them what you are.... "im a sales associate", "I'm a youtuber" boom, lol great video.... 5/5 stars
