  • M8 this is well good. Sad but funny as hell. Haha im a novalist !!!!

  • 12:48 I SHAT BRIX O_O

  • at last one can see gerard butler's acting skills but all the credits should go to paul black who did an amazing work here. he wrote an intense story and he directed the actors just the way to get really the best out of them. two thumbs up.

dear mr paul black. if you need a film-editor please feel free to contact me. i am always looking for interesting stories to work at, inspite of all the mainstream stuff i usually work for. pays the rent though but... ;-)

  • Be careful what you wish for. Strong movie.

  • Pure dramatic. What a great and amazing performance. Just incredible. In my opinion he should do more this kind of movies. / Wahnsinnige Dramatik. Was für eine tolle Darbietung von Gerry. Einfach unglaublich. Meiner Meinung nach, sollte er mehr solcher Filme drehen.

  • Is this Sparta?

  • That was amazing !! wounderful !!

  • this is the BEST short film ive EVER seen in my entire life!!

  • What an amazing film!! Gerard Butler is one of my favs! He was perfect in this! Very well done and an outstanding story line. Bravo!!

  • You are a truly talented director!!

  • Oh wow. Great job. What amazing acting by Gerard Butler. The ending left me watching between my fingers while freaking out then what happened made me jump. I can't believe it, so sad!

  • This is one of Gerard Butler's best films. I wish he would do more films like this and Dear Frankie. The UK films were very memorable

  • This is one of Gerard Butler's best films

  • That was well crafted but Gerard Butler's raw performance stands out above the writing. He has some great passion

  • holy fuck that was an amazing film, when the girl had the gun i literally had to pause the film and be like... FUCK NO... WHAT THE FUCK. very good.

  • wow. i am crying right now. i was ok through the film until the very end. then my heart started pounding,- then my mouth was haning open in shock,- then came the waterworks....

  • @NinjutsuNinjaQueen Same here...!

  • oh dear she's got the most annoying voice!

  • Even with his abundance of hair Gerard will always look beautiful!

  • It really is beautiful, I was moved to tears while watching. May I ask what you were thinking when writing such a raw piece? What was it based on? You are very lucky to have gotten an actor like Gerry. Thank you and I wish you the best!

  • Absolutely the best! I am going to get Dear Frankie and I watched the Jury here on YouTube...

  • Comment removed

  • No fuckin way, could you make a more depressing film? >.<! Amazing though, nice. <3 Gerard he was brilliant.

  • shittttt

  • I feel like this was shot in 30 fps

  • When was this filmed?

  • his voice was lighter back then.

  • @americabrown I agree that it is one of Gerry's best performances! You must be proud that over ten years later it is still being adored by many. Congratulations on the awards by the way!

  • @MUFFiNHEAD1230, I love his long and dark curly hair!

@ everyone else who posts key plot points, STOP! You're ruining it for others who do not watch before reading!

  • Paul, may I ask what prompted you to select Gerry Butler as your main character? Had you seen something or was he completely an unknown face to you? I personally love his work in "The Jury" which shows of some powerful scenes as well. I also adore "The Cherry Orchard." Thanks for sharing this! You did an incredible job! I just wish it were a full-length feature though I don't mean to undermine the brilliance of this amazing short.

  • @JolSummerville He was recommended by a mutual friend and when we met I knew he was right. Thanks for taking the time to watch it. I think it's one of Gerry's best.

  • @americabrown It is certainly one of the best I ever seen. It is so intense and so full of emotions. By the way the jury and dear franky are another two great movies done by GB.

  • @americabrown ...i havent seen this one yet,ive watched all movies of gerry butler,,when was this shown? anyway, its agood one too

  • @JolSummerville, I'm glad it wasn't a full length. I don't want to stay in that dark place longer than I did. Well done though.

  • Gerard Butler...amazing actor. This was really good.

  • Excellent film.... thanks for sharing!

  • Either way it was dramatic, everyone knows a child is what the parent normally strives for, I still think the film was great but if the little girl had shot herself then it would have been more dramatic, it would have torn him more.

  • absolutely shocking :-O

  • If the little girl shot herself it woulda been a bigger twist and deeper plot

  • @sweetvenom1122 it would've been an obvious twist. the second she took the gun in her hands, in your head you knew it was gonna end in disaster with her shooting herself, but it was worse because he ended up getting shot despite everything he worked for

  • Wow.

  • Ahhhhhhhhhhh! I FUCKING LOVE YOU GERARD BUTLER !!! :(

  • My dear god, this was powerful!

  • What is the name of the song playing at the end?

  • stunning,just stunning

  • this is so full of expressions..so great..

  • gerard butler always dilivers amazing work!

  • I was not expecting that ending at all. Gerry's the best actor without a doubt

  • Is this 15-minute video the whole movie?

  • yes, pretty much. intense, no?

  • @chrismoneal it's called a short film for a reason

  • wow wow wow. very powerful.

  • Woe...

  • Hoooooly shit. Didn't see that coming. Wow

  • Does ANYONE know the ending credits score--It sounds like Theivery Corporation, but I'm not sure..Please help.

  • @MATUSOWNED Did you by chance ever find out?

  • @EuropaBloke I referrenced the tune, and it is Thievery Corporation before they went "Indie", here in America, and of course, the trail ends there.. ;(

  • @EuropaBloke I referrenced the tune, and it is Thievery Corporation before they went "Indie", here in America, and of course, the trail ends there.. ;(

  • @MATUSOWNED Hey, this is the director here. It's not Thievery Corporation. It's an original piece by Saul Freeman. But I agree, it's kinda cool. Thanks for watching.

  • When she found the gun i said, "fuck" thinking it was her. But it was him. How horribly moving. I love Gerry!!

  • Spoiler

  • Well don't read the comments before you watch it, durrr!

  • Makes u Skip a beat of your heart at the end...............Brilliant.

  • wow!Amazing!

  • By the end I was screaming at my monitor and shaking. I still am. Brilliant.

  • i jumped at the end. i barely cry during movies, and i was so close to crying...i wish it was longer. i'm still thinking about it now, wow...fucking incredible, and i know exactly how this man feels, and what he's going through. i'm a writer as well, and it a very lonely hurtful life. this is probably the best short film ever.

  • I thought I was the only one who needed to cover the eyes... And powerful isn't enough to say about this film...

  • Very powerful and emotional .

  • i had to cover my eyes too, very vbery good

  • Great Movie ! Does anyone know the name of the soundtrack from the end of the movie ?

  • You know, i have been watching shorts most the afternoon, and none has effected me but this one. Very powerful...

  • did u see My name is Lisa, that one is very powerful

  • jesus that was powerful...

  • Bless you for uploading this (one of my all-time favourite short films). I haven't seen it for a few years and was hoping someone might have put it on youtube, but honestly didn't expect to find it here. Thank-you, americabrown.

  • holy shit. this is amazing in a tradgic twisted way. unbelievable

  • I was freaking out when I thought the girl was gonna kill herself

  • I had to cover my eyes during this scene...it was crazy.

  • @chelskie918

    Me too

  • sad..but really kick ass awesome!

  • "Please!" is a single HIT !! ;D ( Too bad Hollywood takes the EXPENSIVE route to express such simple INTRICACIES of Human Nature)...If I offended anyone with this comment, NO HARM MEANT.

  • Is this original music for the movie? I'd love to get my hands on it.

  • I saw this movie several years ago in the tv!!! I was looking for it

    thanks!

  • are you trying to be funny with the "mind blowing" thing? i know this short film is dramatic and Gerard Butler is amazing in it, but seriously, you write something like that and i'll be rofling till the cows come home. i laugh at anything. ANYTHING.

  • incredible acting on gerard's part! i was in tears just a few seconds after starting it...the desperation in the beginning just felt so raw. amazing amazing short!

  • The movie is so beutiful. Gerry showed the frustration, rage, compassion and love to name a few feelings in a such a beautiful way. We are so blessed to have him as an actor.

  • Fuck, I thought the little girl was going to shoot herself accidently in the ending! Great shot, loved it!

  • OMG!

I was sitting with my hands on my mouth, thinking: please no!

Why on earth did it take them until 300 to see what a great actor Gerry is?

  • It didn't take em until 300. This is true acting, and it came before 300.

  • Yeah, I know. You don't have to convince me. But in several interviews which are from the time before 300 I read lately they call him "unknown" and seemed to be astonished that he delivered good acting, so this is where I came from. ;-)

  • ahhh man!! great ending, but i'm bummed!

  • brilliant!!!!!!! great great work

  • the english are hillarious.

  • nice 1

  • THAT WAS INSANE!

  • OMG That was mind blowing. These short films always leave me reeling. Most of them are way better than the real ones. Its incredible.

  • WOW

  • That gave me goosebumps. Genius

  • holy shit! incredible :)

  • it left me with my hand over my mouth, kids and guns gets me everytime. set the scene fairly well. thought the acting was very good on all parts, written well. certainly good dialogue from what ive in a lot of short movies. the characters were believable.

  • omg, i almost fucking cried when the kid was playing with the gun.......

  • Who says he died??? He could be saved or something, it's not like he stopped moving and closed his eyes. Maybe that's the optimist in me........

  • So when u fall of a building ur just enjoying a nice flight.?

    ;)

  • Great!

  • Wish I hadn't read the comments with all you b@stards ruining the ending!!!!

  • i know your pain

  • when u noticed that everything started to goes on your side,it can suddenly change opposite way,unfortunately...very impressive and so sad...but great short film... thank u for sharing..

  • This is a really good film and one of Gerry's best performances.

  • The ending is so sad.....Wouldnt that girl be old enough to know that was a gun and it could have a bullet in it???? SERIOUSLY!

Makes me cry everytime, but bloody brilliant short film.

  • nice 1

  • Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God. That's all I can say.

  • amazing!

  • Holy shit! I really thought the kid was going to shoot herself. I mean it was sad that he died, but if the kid died I probably would have cried. Great film.

  • You've got to be shitting me. I did not see that coming. Damn, nice work.

  • Damn that ending is fucked up. That makes me sad and pissed off at the same time. Thats how life is though, it fucks you bad like that and damnit ughhh. Why not leave it a happy ending?

  • Thanks for posting...I loved seeing this!!!!!!

  • That ending....fantastic!and heart rending! And you got the perfect actor for it too.

  • OMG! that was very sad...i cried lile a baby! nicely done..bravo

  • oh wow the end made me cry... =/ ah im such a wimp...

  • This is how you make a short film!

    35mm-check

    well recorded location sound-check

    fluid pans and edits-check

music and foley is not in the way-check

    Gerald Butles doesn't hurt either.

Way to go. Wish I had a budget like that.

  • Hi. I made this film for £10,000. Shoot ratio was 2:1 (ie. Gerry did everything in one or two takes). Here are the best bits: No rehearsals. The road rage scene was entirely hand held. The core action of that scene was literally two takes. The wife's monologue was one long take. The tears are real. In that scene, when we shot Gerry's side, it was pitch black outside. That is the magic of great cinematography, by Erik Wilson, who was 22 at the time.

  • 10, 000 is a lot of money for someone like me who's just getting into directing, but in the scope of things and the final product it was a deal. Amazing job. way to set the standard.

  • Wow I've never seen such a film...made me jump out of my chair when the girl turned the gun towards her face. Sheesh...didn't expect the ending. Nice. But sad, shows how life can be, sometimes it just doesn't go the way you planned...all the little coincidences...all the impact of every little decision. Again, really nice. Youtube doesn't do the cinematography justice.

  • why does ggerard have to die in every single one of his movies WHY??

  • I noticed that too!!! What the hell???? D;

  • That was incredible - still affected by the ending no matter how much I watch it :)

  • Great job..The ending made me cry

  • Absolutely Brilliant! no words! truely tremendous!

  • Wow!!!

    Didn't expect that ending!!

  • i think i saw or read this kind of story somewhere. nicely done though.

  • Capital ending!! =)

  • That was amazing!!!

I knew the ending like there was no tomorrow though...

But that was great ( great with an amazed laugh in between the E and the A!!!

  • this literally sent chills down my spine.

  • I'm really glad this didn't have a happy ending --would have suffered greatly from sappiness and melodrama. Nice performances and good choice at the end.

  • i jumped a little when the girl aimed at herself ... i thought she was gonna shoot herself accidentally. D: beautiful short film, but so saddening ... eh. but aren't the greatest films the ones with sorrow.?

  • Thank you so much for putting this up. I've wanted to see this for awhile. It was 1 of the best shorts I've seen.

  • I really enjoyed this short. Acting was superfect

  • I was looking through my fingers at the end. SO good! Isn't that how life goes... shit finally starts going your way, then you die. Psh...

  • AMAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZING

  • Wow! what an ending.

  • wow, this is a good film... when he really realy wanted to die, death wouldn't come to him and when he reagained his happiness and felt the great desire to live, death took him away- wow! amazing and sad film

  • Thought it was brilliant. My hand was over my mouth while the girl played with the gun.

  • wow, I don't know what to say.....great film, great lesson but death has bad timing...so sad.

  • wow...i dont no what 2 say...

  • Thank you so much for sharing ...together with the serial called "The Jury" this short has been one of his best performances

  • that was a great movie man

  • Jeez I don't know whether I liked it or not.

    But good moral: NO GUNS

  • good film....really really really bad poetry.

  • AMAZINGGG!!!

  • this short film is so amazing

Man... do guys really care like that?

  • Omg, funny...

"i'm a novalist" is that how things theses days work... just put a gun to your head and get what ever you want.... but make sure you tell them what you are.... "im a sales associate", "I'm a youtuber" boom, lol great video.... 5/5 stars

  • fu-uck! :0 fantastic!

  • electromikey - You are getting angry. Perhaps some of my poetry may help?: From time to time, the tried-in-battle their gray steeds set to gallop amain, and ran a race when the road seemed fair. From time to time, a thane of the king, who had made many vaunts, and was mindful of verses, stored with sagas and songs of old, bound word to word in well-knit rime, welded his lay; this warrior soon of Voltar's quest right cleverly sang, in well-ranged words, of the warlike deeds
  • Lol, i said it was good...

The 'fu-uck' was just to indicate my astonishment at what had happened, this short is GREAT!

    But thanks for the poetry...

  • What did you particularly enjoy about it?

  • Brilliant acting, plot and a really sweeeeet twist at the end!! Just intense all the way through! what did you enjoy about it?

  • Breathtaking shock ending.

    wonderful camera-work and drama.
