I loved this show & Smallville. Too bad this show never got the same chance that Smallville got, 10 seasons. I was disappointed when it got canceled & now mad that on the DVD they took off the original opening theme & I was also really mad when Star Trek Enterprise was canceled after 4 seasons, it was getting so much better & I still can't get over it. I hate when they cancel a show that I enjoy a lot & when it gets so good & better over time. Now they want to cancel Chuck after 5.

Huntress is "half metahuman" because in the BoP version, Catwoman is actually metahuman.

Other than that, in any form of fantasy universe you can always have superpowered beings :-) I believe it's mostly a modern-day thing to try and explain such powers in some way, like the "meteor freaks" in Smallville. Even more so since "powerless" characters such as Batman or Green Arrow also appear superpowered... so it really doesn't matter.

I think the audience (myself included) really needed an occasional appearance of Bruce Wayne/Batman and or the Joker for us to get behind this. The intro heavily builds on Batman, Joker & Catwoman. Otherwise the way it was written had potential but never a real story.

Take the show on its own terms, it's own failings, its own merits. Certainly, it's a riff on DC continuity. (If you like, think of this as being one of the other 51 realities. ) In this universe, Batman and a metahuman Catwoman were active decades ago, Dinah has TK powers other than the canary cry, and Harley doesn't have an annoying Brooklyn accent. None of those changes are bad in-and-of themselves.

I guess they could have used all-different names, but this might bring in new readers.

Dinah in this show was the real Black Canary's daughter, sent away for adoption when she was younger. The fact that Dinah ran away from her adoptive parents was known from the pilot, but the fact that Black Canary was her mother wasn't revealed until Black Canary herself appeared in a later episode.

Part of What set 'Birds of Prey' apart from other short- lived series is having such a great finale. Other such shows' final episodes are usually disjointed and feel unfinished, but 'Devil's Eyes' was probably the best episode of the series, it had this amazing, brilliant fight scene/ final showdown and brought the series to such a great conclusion with really good closure.

I'm going to try and get the DVD set for my birthday in a couple weeks.
