Well, you realize, there are many "hints" in RuneScape that give a hint that you're supposed to want to be the best. Pvp, you're supposed to be better than the person you're killing. Duel Arena. Clan Wars. Soul Wars. Mobilising Armies. Castle Wars. I know those mini games don't have the soul purpose of being better than someone else, but it's a large portion of it. The quotes are right. Famous people get views with alot of ease, while people that are not very known, but have a good talent, are left behind. I'm happy to see that even famous people with a lot of views share my opinion.
Furthermore, there are more positive comments on videos than negative comments. Some of these videos dont even deserve the praise. If a video sucks, it sucks. Every video is not amazing. What is hurting this RSMV community is the lack of improvement or increase of quality and originality. Honest opinions (negative or positive) need to be given on a video. If it is good, it is good. If it is bad, it is bad. Nothing will ever change that.
Conversely, the real problem amongst the RS Video community is not flaming, it is the ubiquitous nature of brown-nosing. I see all these comments on the [RS] Quotes video saying I cried or This is so true, when these people do the exact thing that contradicts what they just said. All these two faced sycophants heap praise on this video, when neither they nor the maker know what theyre even talking about.
This video is trying to make itself seem more important than it really is. The maker of this video is claiming that "flaming" is a wide-spread problem amongst the RS Video Community; it is not. Very few people just flame for flame's sake. They say a video sucks when it DOES suck. Even though insulting a video without constructive criticism is useless, it is not necessarily untrue. If a video sucks, it sucks. Every video is not amazing, there's a little thing called improvement.

If at first you don't do as you want, you try harder to get there. Yes, I care about others' opinions, but mostly my friends. I want to know what my friends think of the video I've created that I've asked them to participate in so they are able to see how everything came together. Constructive criticism is helpful, but plain criticism is not at all. I don't think I'm a hypocrite at the least, I think we just have different perspectives of what we are looking at.
The competition thing isn't the only thing wrong but the fact that people are trying to get famous. The competition is where people think of it as a way to get famous. They want to be the best.. to get famous. I have seen some of my friends actually suck up to people they consider to be "famous" just so they could be too. I honestly don't enjoy watching this competition because it just brings people to ridiculous spots of worshiping random people.
Also, Instead of calling people who dont like your video flamers, learn from their critique (harsh as it may be) and improve. Seeking excellence is vital to the advancement of any community. Improvement is not something we completely figure out on our own.
Furthermore, flattery and dishonest praise is useless and detrimental to the RS community. Instead of telling someone what they need to improve upon, you tell them that its perfect, leaving them in an endless state of mediocrity. Its just like cheating on a test - it only hurts you in the future.
Thirdly, anyone who posts videos on YouTube is here for recognition and others opinions. Dont deny it. Why else would you share something with the rest of the world? No matter what you say, you care about others opinions. It is human nature, accept it. You can still care about opinions, while not obsesssing over them. Dont be hypocrites.
In conclusion, critique is essential to the perpetual advancement of the RSMV/RS Movie community. To announce that there must be no criticism of a video, or that we are to be gentle in our comments, is not only a hindering on the freedom of speech, but is morally treasonable to fellow video-makers.

Can someone explain to me why all the rsmv's are titled the same, and edited the same, with the same ingame outfits and emotes? Where does the creative liberty take over? How can this be called fun, when you are re-inventing the wheel. There used to be so many rsmv ppl who openly admitted they wanted subs to match up to other ppl. As MHG said "Your work is your masterpiece" but people make you think it isn't a masterpiece by flaming and critizicing so every video maker must understand that your masterpiece will allways be your masterpiece no matter how much others critizice, the viewers must also understand one thing is constructive critism and another is flaming, most critizicers are people who don't make videos and so if a vid isn't good give them hope to continue and a WMM vid can be as good as an AAE just believe.
A lot of you are being hypocrites. Isn't the message of the video, "Make videos no matter what other people think; the only thing that matters is whether you liked making it or not". Isn't that the message? Then why do I see so many people complaining about bad comments being posted on their videos, and that being the reason they've stopped. People here are complaining about bad comments and quit; they defeat this video's purpose. Stop complaining for sympathy and make better videos. Okay?
But more of it is that with everyone being in this sort of "competition" in the community and being obsessed with being the best or E-famous or whatever, they've lost the idea of making videos only for fun. Yes, you should make videos no matter what others think and have fun. But with constant flaming, it discourages people to stop. And where does a lot of the flaming come from? People who make videos as well. Thus, it's competition.

I used to enjoy making Rsmv's, but know its worthless. With everyone competing to have the best editing and best programs is killing us. I don't have all the new programs like Sony Vegas or Adobe After Effects. I don't like to make videos anymore b/c they will get criticized by everyone, and that's sad. I believe videos should be made for fun, not to be criticized.

Amen, effects and filming means nothing without effort and having fun making your masterpiece. No one is to critisize (especially the ones with no vids) or compare ones video to another especially if it is the best rsmv ever.
I've been thinking about this and kinda have formed the opposite opinion and what we need to consider when dealing with this, although I FULLY SUPPORT this, it is worth looking at the other side.
If someone comments badly on a video about how it sucked it does and has, at least for me, one helped me learn lessons, and 2 STRENGTHENED my self confidence b/c I know it's just some dweeb on the internet. I laugh at mean and hateful comments, because i know it's just assholes who r too shy irl.
I agree...my brother tried to make RSMV's for a while, they weren't great, and his first ones were his best. The first ones he made he put tons of effort into, but then used WMM. Then he got Sony Vegas, he relied on the effects, and did next to nothing with quality. He stopped caring why he made them other then popularity. There is SO much more to making videos then that.
As far as "epic scenes" go...some of it is personal preference, but I agree.
Agreed, and it's for this reason, many have taken breaks (long ones if I may add), or quit altogether, and never return. So many skillful editors have been shunned from the youtube community for this reason. It's a bad thing, and as said, it really shouldn't matter, RSMV's included

Apparently, I've been spreading a message of being open to more programs and of being different from the rest for 6 months now through videos. I've influenced a few people to create their owns styles, but not nearly enough for it to make a difference...

The most important thing isn't impressing your subscribers, its about having fun doing what you love to do. And honestly I think I can say for alot of us that RS is more than just a game. Especially RSMV's. when you spend thousands of hours overall playing a game, it becomes something else -- something you put your hard work into.

Totally agree with this. I mean, critism, suggestions, and critiques lead to fantastic and amazing things, but it's gotten too far. Really, Jess and MasterHyperG are really saying it, they probably have the clearest explanantion of what people are trying to say. I completely agree, as much as I want to get better, I don't try and "please" my subscribers just for attention. Sure it is nice to get attention every now and then but if that's the only reason you live in life, nobody is truly going to like you, or your work. It's better to just do what you enjoy and not care about what others think about it.

If at first you don't do as you want, you try harder to get there. Yes, I care about others' opinions, but mostly my friends. I want to know what my friends think of the video I've created that I've asked them to participate in so they are able to see how everything came together. Constructive criticism is helpful, but plain criticism is not at all. I don't think I'm a hypocrite at the least, I think we just have different perspectives of what we are looking at.

The competition thing isn't the only thing wrong but the fact that people are trying to get famous. The competition is where people think of it as a way to get famous. They want to be the best.. to get famous. I have seen some of my friends actually suck up to people they consider to be "famous" just so they could be too. I honestly don't enjoy watching this competition because it just brings people to ridiculous spots of worshiping random people.

Thirdly, anyone who posts videos on YouTube is here for recognition and others opinions. Dont deny it. Why else would you share something with the rest of the world? Can someone explain to me why all the rsmv's are titled the same, and edited the same, with the same ingame outfits and emotes? Where does the creative liberty take over? How can this be called fun, when you are re-inventing the wheel. There used to be so many rsmv ppl who openly admitted they wanted subs to match up to other ppl. Now thats a taboo, and so I have to assume its now suddenly done for fun?
I think little has changed. You few might do it for fun, but speak for youselves.

ur so right...this vid is to make people feel good about any lame videos that they might do. If videos are going to be posted on youtube, they might as well be good, instead of wasting the viewer's time with a lame, lack of creativity.
A few "fun videos" posted here and there would be alright, but so many of them is just ridiculous. re-inventing the whell is the perfect example, really. The same "amazing thing" over and over...

As MHG said "Your work is your masterpiece" but people make you think it isn't a masterpiece by flaming and critizicing so every video maker must understand that your masterpiece will allways be your masterpiece no matter how much others critizice, the viewers must also understand one thing is constructive critism and another is flaming, most critizicers are people who don't make videos and so if a vid isn't good give them hope to continue and a WMM vid can be as good as an AAE just believe.

Isn't that the message? Then why do I see so many people complaining about bad comments being posted on their videos, and that being the reason they've stopped. But more of it is that with everyone being in this sort of "competition" in the community and being obsessed with being the best or E-famous or whatever, they've lost the idea of making videos only for fun. Yes, you should make videos no matter what others think and have fun. But with constant flaming, it discourages people to stop. And where does a lot of the flaming come from? People who make videos as well. Thus, it's competition.

I used to enjoy making Rsmv's, but know its worthless. With everyone competing to have the best editing and best programs is killing us. I don't have all the new programs like Sony Vegas or Adobe After Effects. I don't like to make videos anymore b/c they will get criticized by everyone, and that's sad. I believe videos should be made for fun, not to be criticized.

So many people will agree with this video over favouritism, yet they won't actually realise what the problem at hand is. Not many people will watch this and actually think, "Hey, it's time to change my ways."
They'll watch it and think, "Cool video by Cryptosyche." *5 star, favourite, the works*
What I'm saying is that with such issues, things don't tend to sink into people's heads. It gets through to some people, sure, but there are still many "sub 2 me" people around.

I've been thinking about this and kinda have formed the opposite opinion and what we need to consider when dealing with this, although I FULLY SUPPORT this, it is worth looking at the other side.
If someone comments badly on a video about how it sucked it does and has, at least for me, one helped me learn lessons, and 2 STRENGTHENED my self confidence b/c I know it's just some dweeb on the internet. I laugh at mean and hateful comments, because i know it's just assholes who r too shy irl.

For me, videos started from looking really fun, to becoming a way to express art with music while incorporating friends and memories :)
All of my videos incorporate different times and hold meaning.
There's the video where you became better friends with that one person.
The video where you learned how to do stop-motion.
The video where he got 99 attack.
The video where she got her first skillcape.
The video where you tried something new.
The video where you brought the music to life.

I agree...my brother tried to make RSMV's for a while, they weren't great, and his first ones were his best. The first ones he made he put tons of effort into, but then used WMM. Then he got Sony Vegas, he relied on the effects, and did next to nothing with quality. He stopped caring why he made them other then popularity. There is SO much more to making videos then that.
As far as "epic scenes" go...some of it is personal preference, but I agree.

Agreed, and it's for this reason, many have taken breaks (long ones if I may add), or quit altogether, and never return. So many skillful editors have been shunned from the youtube community for this reason. It's a bad thing, and as said, it really shouldn't matter, RSMV's included

Apparently, I've been spreading a message of being open to more programs and of being different from the rest for 6 months now through videos. I've influenced a few people to create their owns styles, but not nearly enough for it to make a difference...
It's a great video and it has a great point to it, but seriously, I've been doing the same thing for 6 months now, and I kinda feel like shit for not being seen as this, but rather an AAE junkie...

We shouldn't be seen as anything, I didn't make this video to be seen as someone who believes in these quotes, I made this video so that other people would learn to play by these quotes. Sometimes you need to look at the bigger picture, not just yourself or your reputation.

Ya, I know what you mean about the whole reputation thing (I feel I gave a wrong impression of narcissism), but obviously people would accept the message I made more if they looked at simply the videos and not the videomaker.
I'm very glad you made this video because I believe that it is a fast growing video and it should make a difference.
In fact, I started the message when everybody knew RSMV's became a cliched topic, but I know this video will influence people who will create influence. =)

i agree with the video in some ways but remember its just a game dude u make it sound as if its life or death. chillax a bit man. the "competition" is healthy competition its kinda like footy where will the fun be if you wenr't competing against ur rivals? the competition has helped to make RSMVs grate and surely impressing your subscribers should be the most important thing too you? i know it is for me. The most important thing isn't impressing your subscribers, its about having fun doing what you love to do. And honestly I think I can say for alot of us that RS is more than just a game. Especially RSMV's. when you spend thousands of hours overall playing a game, it becomes something else -- something you put your hard work into.

Totally agree with this. I mean, critism, suggestions, and critiques lead to fantastic and amazing things, but it's gotten too far. Really, Jess and MasterHyperG are really saying it, they probably have the clearest explanantion of what people are trying to say. People need to realize that you always start out as an amateur no matter how good your draft or first piece is.

I completely agree, as much as I want to get better, I don't try and "please" my subscribers just for attention. Sure it is nice to get attention every now and then but if that's the only reason you live in life, nobody is truly going to like you, or your work. It's better to just do what you enjoy and not care about what others think about it.

Oh wow...i geuss its true...i forgot what video making was about and started looking at how i can get more subscribers...i geuss we need to all pull together and work as a team to make "fun" video's with eachother instead of "competitive" videos and instead of trying to "improve" each others videos in negative or even possitive ways...i love this video because it made me think alot and i hope it makes alot of other popular video makers think too...video making is not about the subscribers.
