Windows isn't all that bad, as long as you are careful and don't infect your computer with shitstorms of viruses. It's actually one of the best operating systems. There's a thing called AVG Free... duh. And trust me, there are lots of worse operating systems, such as Mac OS X.
You did not have to rip out your computer hard drive to install Linux. I have installed Linux Mint along side Windows 7 on one of my laptops. I did this by installing virtual clone drive from the Internet. And than mounting the Linux Mint ISO file on to it on my Netbook. And you can also uninstall it in Windows programs,if you decide you no longer want it. Andrea.
@Yogi2k10 If you have a heavenly used windows drive and your life is on it it is hard to tell someone to just wipe it and start fresh with linux. dual booting can leave you less hard drive space that can't be completely recovered if a person decides they don't want it. A second drive is a great choice to make the transition.
well i had a heavy windows and switched to ubuntu yesterday i backed up my stuff to an external drive and installed ubuntu to the drive where windows was on and it runs fine =)
I forgot To mention that not only my stuff i had backed up i also backed up my bookmarks and settings from thunderbird & Firefox and other apps i used (e.g pidgin) The Latest Ubuntu Currently is 10.10
@walkthroughguy88 yes or you can erase the old one. But if you have data on your old hard drive you may want to keep it the way it is and install linux on a new drive.
What do you do if you already have vista on your computer - how do you wipe it 7 have only ubuntu? It sure doesn't work by changing bios to boot from ubuntu CD (I think because vista makes hard disk invisable).
If you are looking to wipe the drive and only use Ubuntu, during the installation process you will be prompted to create a new partition or use the entire hard drive.
Hey Delvis I've been wondering one thing... yeah windows gets virus from time to time.. but if you seems to know how electronics works you should know how to make them work well in your everyday life.. I personaly want to keep my windows 7 since its realy stable. but anyway hope you like ubuntu!
I haven't tried windows7 yet but. It's not just viruses but the time to time lock ups and the overall loses of speed also. I have tried everything over the years and have found windows xp the most stable.
Yeah i kinda got the same problem as you and tried a bunch of OS but sincerly i've installed Windows 7 one and a half month ago and... IT FINALY WORKS !
