  • The 'good' qualities of analogue are subjective. Many young producers prefer the sound of digital because all the music they like sounds that way. Don't sweat it. You can still make a crap record with all the best analogue hardware in the world.

  • Always interesting to see people judging audio quality through youtube videos.

And for those who cry "analogue!! analogue!!" I suppose the vast majority of people using UA and WAVES plugins to mix grammy winning records today don't know what they are doing?

And how many of you actually own or have really worked with any of the high end hardware studio devices? Or have you even TRIED the UA stuff? Just honestly curious. I doubt it though.

  • @searchlight31 well said

  • HARDWARE RULES !!!! Plugs can never reach that Sound !

  • While I agree with the lack of quality on youtube sound...where has less frequency damage due to poor resolution(guitar), it has noticiable difference (pro hardware).

    Tks for sharing

  • haha well its certainly louder

  • i think the plugin dont emulate well the smooth warm sound of the helios.. maybe the EQ character but not the rest..

  • Cool.. Instant Sabbath Iron man drum sound.. Helios rocks..

  • That's 1 of 5 or so Helios consoles that were at Island Basin st.. over the years.

  • The Island studio board was actually larger.! they had it for sale at vintage king about a year or so ago. i think it sold for like $200,000.00

  • Why he can use that nice console, whilst i cannot? I have good ears and could do same job :(

  • I think this desk is the original desk from Island Studio in London which would make it the ORIGINAL Helios. I can't tell you how many GREAT classic BRIT albums were mixed on this very same board.

  • Is Jason using Helios type 69 modules (the reissues), or original helios 69 modules here?

  • it must cost a bonb

  • I thought the plugin did sound kinda thin compared to the hardware. Oh well. As far as I know there is latency with the UAD cards. How much I am not sure.

  • Well specially in the guitars you can here a very nasty high end and Q resonance on the plug-in version, the sound suddenly becomes harsh when they swap it to the plug-in version

  • To much latency between room mics and kick @ snare need to adjust timing sounds like!

  • nice video!!! im working with a 003 and i hear that there is a lot of delay introduced using the uad card ??? is that true?

  • too much high end on kick

  • uad plugs are really good. but imho the real thing sounds still better.

  • yeah...the board sounds much better. The plug in still sounds digital.

  • I to love hardware though we can not properly compare this specific plugin with the on the board because the video quality is too p eq oor. The audio on youtube has low sample rates and huge loss of frequencies.

  • You just can't beat real hands on controls. I hate using shitty mouse, it feels so emmmm ...distant and artificial.

  • You can use a control surface

  • Jason Carmer is a good Engineer..don't hated him...because your Engineer skill is not even closed to him...I Used UAD-1 Card myself and a big fan of UAD plugins sound since can't afford the real hardware ...

  • No, it's aimed at people who work in the recording industry and demonstrates applications of equalilsation to individual tracks that are mixed into what you know as a song so that you can steal it on Limewire.

    You shmuck.

  • Sounds good on the bass line part... not impressed on the drums, at least not for the music i make, sounds mid and boxy...but on bass.... sounded well sweet!!!

    Zz.

  • The UAD stuff is clearly less focused, still not arse sounding. Thanks for this.
