  • I've been looking at both the Kangoo Jumps and the Vibram FiveFingers. I'm new to running, I want to start getting into shape, but cannot decide what is best. I'm not going to be going too crazy, and will only be doing maybe 6 miles a week or something. Do you think the Kangoo Jumps would last with that type of use? - Or should I just forget them completely? Thanks. :)

  • @OrenBoder As long as you don't use the Kangoos as an off track MTB substitute there will be no problem with them.

    However Kangoo vs VFF ... we are talking about two extremes heavy "shooes" with no heel impact and a heavy demand to your thigh muscles and abdominal muscles versus forefoot running where your feet and lower leg muscles are the suspension.

    Personally I think forefoot running with or without VFFs are more healthy IF! you start slowly and only run every second day.

  • @rnj300769 Thank you for the response. I'll mainly be using the Kangoos to run around my neighbourhood and the roads and streets here aren't that demanding on the shoes. It's interesting what you're saying about the different muscle groups. I would really like to work my core a little more than my legs, which is why I was looking at the Kangoos.

    I might end up getting both, and alternating between them. Haha.

    I would love to run completely barefoot, but there is too much litter everywhere!

  • Running in ordinary running shoes caused knee and hip problems with me. No matter how much I stretched my muscles or how slowly I started to increase the running distance, the problems always came. After again another year without running I switched to Forefootrunning in VFF and didn't have that problem again.

    A female running teacher crizicised me for using these, she said they're unhealthy and look stupid. lol. Coming from a feminazi who usually walks in high heels...

  • I got a big question! I am flat feet too! and thinking of converting to Vibram.

    1) Does ur Spine or knees hurt post workout?

    2) Are u more prone to sprain ankles on offroad running than when on motion control shoes?

    3) Do you find yourself performing better?

    ad 1) my spine or knees never hurts

    ad 2) Ur not more prone to sprain ankles doing offroad in VFF. In fact a lot less compare to motion control shoes.

    ad 3) Its hard to say since I started to log my runs when I started to run in Kangoo's. However I have never been running and enjoying as much as after I got VFFs.

    In fact I have been running too much during the winter (every day at least 8 Km) - So it is now hurting around the right heel (not under) after running -> every 2nd day

  • @rnj300769 So now I am only running every 2nd day - and using CEP compression sleeves - which helps.

  • Great video. How do you think the Kangaroos would last for occasional road running, say about 10-20km per week?

  • @DaveSetchfield Thanx - I think the Kangoos will last significantly longer since the sand and mud are the main reason for the sheer.

    However the Sole 6 is definitely not good for road running if you go for durability. Then Sole 8 is to prefer as far as I know :-) - happy jumping!

  • @DaveSetchfield I think Kangaroos last a lot longer that 600 Km's is you are not running in mud like me. If you do run in mud remember to clean the joints :-)
