Nice pace John. Sounds awesome. Dream Theaters bassist is badass. He pretty much plays fast lead bass along with John the whole time. The bass harmonics ignite the crowd when the song starts. Pure talent from all musicians.
DON'T FORGET JB!!! or reach. btw i don't mean that fag, i mean the dude that composes amazing classical music with nothing but his eyes and a computer program because he can't move and has ALS. if you don't know who im talking about by now then i will be praying for you lol.
Dude this is why he is my absolute favorite guitarist on the planet!!!!! he does everything, string skipping, pedal points, legato, alternate picking, his style is amazing!!!!!!
Since we are all putting out our opinions im going to respectfully disagree and say that I think shawn lane was the best guitarist ever, with some of the most beautiful phrasing ever. . just my opinion though:)
god damn hes so clean (well hes on a neck pickup and delay) but still thats friken studio quality right there. and hes jesus. best guitar player in the world for sure, he can shred your friken face off and make intensly creative music. johns a beast
@guitarwizard17 Agreed. My 500 dollar seagull s6 blows most 2000 dollar guitars out of the water. Not to mention sometimes when i set up high end guitars such as a les paul or strat most of the time the nut has wrong string heights, the frets aren't leveled to match the relief, and the neck is so bad that you can't adjust it properly. So be careful when you buy a guitar...
The section that starts at 1:49 is about as melodic as you can get, you just don't see this side of petrucci that often nowadays, this was abundant all throughout the I & W though Scenes days (maybe even a little of SDOIT)
Yeah I would agree, but clearly, he still has it in him, hence this video. And there are LOTS of melodic moments in Black Clouds and Silver linings, take for instance the Count of Tuscany, Wither, and especially the Best of TImes.
lol pretty much. i'll admit, speed is a huge part of him but as we can all see there is so much more. his rock discipline DVD is the reason i can play as fast as i can :) so thanks for that JP!
Petrucci rocks =]. I think i asked here before. but it's been bugging me. It's something petrucci played before when he improv. it's kinda classical ish where they kinda play something like a flat five or some kinda blues note in a run? around the high e string fifth fret. it's bugging me.
joe satriani is a big influence on his guitar playing. if anyone doesn't believe it go listen to Suspended Animation. you can really hear the influence in Tunnel Vision and Jaws of Life
The RG is a beautifully crafted guitar depending on what model but the Petrucci guitars were Ibanez Prestige custom built guitars made of one solid piece of wood. But yes the RG's are great, I owned one along side a Jackson, 1974 Fender Strat, and Esp for awhile. I liked the Jackson most though....
I dont understand anyone's hatred towards a guy that can shred, soar, play with emotion, aggression, and with 10,000 different styles and techniques. And to th guy that says he goes out of tune all the time live, BULLSHIT!!! That is the furthest from the truth, and guitars do go out of tune at times but, Petrucci bends each note just right to get the flaws to be perfect.....
Whoever said that Petrucci goes out of tune is the biggest douce bag and has no sense of music at all and has the most screwed up ear.... All I can say is Petrucci is amazing.
I hate all the Petrucci haters, they are just mad because they will never come close to the man himself. He puts alot of guitarists to shame including myself. But that is what makes me like his style so much....
I agree with you he is a genius it's not even about shame it's just that he really inspires you to become something if you are pro musician or guitar player he plays any style and has all his techniques down... People are just lame dude. Petrucci is the man.
Never goes out of tune no matter how crazy I am with the tremolo. The intense tremolo system and locking tuners make it that way. Problem is that you can't detune it unless you leave the strings all dangley.
I know guys that say the same of his guitar, that is is built like a gem and, I have played one a few times and they are great guitars. Once the strings are worn in the things can stay in tune big time. Anyone that says Petrucci sucks is a jealous little mindless prick that will never match the man's skill, emotion, and creativity....
That is really cool because there are guitars that take days of playing before the strings are worn enough for accurate tuning. I guess that is what seperates $500 guitars from $2,000 guitars....
Come on, the guy ripped out his vocal chords. Give him a break. He's done some fucking good shows, and he's pretty much finally back to being as good as he used to be (Images and Words era). The only reason LaBrie ever seems bad is because he's surrounded by a bunch of musical vituosos, who seem to pretty much never EVER mess up.
Liking the harmonic minor vibe he is throwing in... well done JP!!
kschott425 6 months ago
@kschott425 no harmonic minor in this dude...
