I agree almost entirely with Tyson here, but there is one mistake he makes. Just like he says "keep religion out of the science classroom", he should say "keep religion out of the government". The government is a neutral, secular body that serves all people and all religions and cultures, and therefor, the official state currency should carry no religious symbols. Thus, it is perfectly reasonable to protest the phrase "in god we trust" by scrapping it off dollar bills. Just sayin'.

As an atheist I use the word god several times a day. It was my interest in comparative religion that made it possible for me to call myself an atheist. I like the word goddammit too. I get what Neil is saying, he's apathetic to the existence of a god. Science doesn't need to address mythologies (although it's helpful to know the greek ones). Some atheists see religious fundamentalism as a growing threat to mankind. It's not a fight he's interested in taking up.
Does this mean I'm not allowed to say things like "By the hammer of Thor!" or "By the beard of Zeus!"?
Sheesh. Modern religions don't have a monopoly on the word "god". Humans have invented all kinds of gods throughout history. The modern gods are nothing special.
very well said!! He has other things to do then to bog himself down into petty debates or worrying about what people think about what he says. If more people thought like this a system of live and let live, we might actually get somewhere as a species. I also agree that theism does not belong in Schools. Schools are for education and preparing kids for an adult world, leave the theism to churches where people who choose to be there can practice.

Some say that not all early immigrants came to America fleeing religious persecution. Some came to America to practice it themselves.

I agree with him 100%. As long as religion is not being shoved up my pooper I couldn't care less. Dr. Tyson is a hero.
