It's interesting. I have this documentary showing that there is one advantage that a jackrabbit loves to have. The advantage is a hill. When standing on a hill, the jackrabbit can run down, away from the bird and then immediately turn up the hill, to destroy the birds momentum -- giving the jackrabbit the advantage. It's interesting because that means that for a jackrabbit, running away from a predator UP a hill is better than running down.
