You winged it! Your wings are of fine gold! A most lovely playing of one of my favourite hymns. Nothing beats the warm, lush sound of a Skinner. Thank you, sir! Christ is Born!!!
You know I usually love the bombast of the full organ in the other hymns you've played... But I love the quiet of this hymn.. Especially the ending.. Superb... This, as you know, is a Communion Hymn so its played perfectly given the portion of a mass that you'd normally hear this.. Again.. A+, my man!
@AeolianSkinner1983 Thanks Ty, I LOVE the strings on this organ. I need to ask Bob what Aeolian-Skinner did he sample them from they really are quite nice. Thanks buddy!
@19shea85 The recording quality is suspect as I'm recording with a Canon PowerShot A1000IS which has a tiny microphone built into it. It being a digital organ doesn't automatically make it "sound fake" as this is particular brand of digital organ happens to be the best of all of them. The brand is Walker and Walker is the industry standard for 32' extensions as well as other pitch extensions and complete divisions. All of the big organs utilize Walker. Please see my oldest vids (added 2 yrs ago)
@19shea85 Also, the console was built by Colby. I ask that you see my oldest videos (added 2 years ago), because that's what the organ used to sound like as it's gone through a revoicing and reduction in volume as of the summer of 2008. You'll have to crank up the volume when looking at those earlier vids as the sound quality (recording volume is to low) is lousy on them. I hope that this and the other reply answers your question.
You did a good job for "winging it". I have never heard this tune before. Like Cody, I am also curious as to how this organ is out of tune. Are the tow pipped ranks that noticeably out of tune as to interfere with the other digital ranks?
Yeah, it was out of tune alright. The digitals were not in tune with the pipes at the time. It was much more noticeable in the four other videos that I didn't post.
Thanks Cody! I recorded seven hymns that day, and could only post these three because the organ was sooo out of tune. This was the only video of volume that I could use as the others sounded so badly. That's how out of tune it was much to my great surprise. It wasn't nearly as noticable when just using the strings and softer stops. Slush I could get away with....
I know that this organ is a Walker Technical - I noticed that you said the organ was 'out of tune'....is this a combination pipe/digital instrument? Which ranks are pipes?
Just had a conversation with the organist of this church today about the organ. Yes, it only has two ranks I believe. See my 'Hanover' video for the specification which tells you what stops are pipes (Great Principal for sure, forgot the other rank).

Even if you were a little rusty when this was recorded, it still was nicely done.

This console looks really impressive, but it sounds really fake. Is the organ digital/electronic or is the quality of the recording just poor?
