@DeafFret If no one answered your question, generally no, possums don't get rabies. But that is the Virginia Opossum, the American version. Their body temp doesn't support the virus. I don't know about Aussie possums or south American possums.

Thanks for your comment.. This possum is not the same as the Nth American Opossum. It is an Australian Brushtail Possum. We don't have rabies in Australia. This possum is bigger than a domestic cat, it has big sharp teeth and claws and can get very viscious. Google ustralian Brushtail Possum to see the difference. Thanks again..Dave

I just went outside cause I heard a noise, our bunny was facing something that I thought was a mangy cat, then realized it was a possum when it ran off, I didn't even know we HAD possums here I was very surprised, they aren't something you usually see, hell, I've seen more sloths then I have possums

Uh xXGatica, various possum species live throughout North and South America, infact South America, their original home, has somewhere around 56 or more different species of the marsupial, and because of the land bridge, our common Opossum originally migrated from there to North America. Thought you should know, could be wrong about the figure.

OK.. however this is a Tasmanian/ Australian brushtail possum. It is approx. much bigger than a large domestic cat. It has amazing jaw strength, and very sharp teeth. It also has 2-3 inch razor sharp claws, and when cornered gets very aggressive. I was lucky to have the broom to swat it away. It actually came down our chimney. It wasn't harmed but did run up the broom to attack me. I was lucky considering it was 3am and I was half asleep. Thanks for commenting. Dave.
