  • Safety, and the PERCEPTION of safety is an evolving thing. The safety features in a Mustang, Beetle, Mini, Corolla, and Impala are roughly concurrent with the public expectations and government regulations of the time. None of the 1972 models are nearly as safe as the 2012 models of the same name. Nor were they expected to be. These ever increasing standards are also why cars are really heavy again.

  • No old car protected in a 40 mph offset crash. Not American, European or Asian. There just weren't strong government laws like today.

  • A great post. As cool as some of these cars looked, they were complete death traps.! No seat belts, metal dashboards......Ouch!!
