This solo is based on patterns layed down by max roach. For being known as a basher and the heaviest of drummers, Bonham has amazing stick control, the sticks never collide, and he doesn't mishit any rims, this guy is like perfect with great touch, control, projection and feeling, a complete drummer.
I was completely joking with my previous comment, Bonham was the greatest rock drummer who will hold his title forever. There are and will be no exceptions, ever. You really don't know what you're talking about narrare.
you could say he is your idol, your favourite one or among the greatest 70 drummer but objectively there are better drummers than him...but if you are famous and you die young you will live forever (my generation)...
Ian Paice, Mark Nauseef, Borromie Barlow, Bobby Caldwell,Narada Michael Walden,Billy Cobham, Jhon Hiseman...just to name a few are better...but people idolize their heroes...
You must have misinterpreted my statement... John Bonhman is the best rock and roll drummer. He may have not had the fastest technique or the 100 piece set, but he is regarded as having the best internal pulse and around the set triplets of anyone. Combine those two along with his petal technique and you're are looking at the greatest rock drummer ever. If you disagree so with such fervor then I beg of you to tell me who you think is the best rock drummer ever.
in rock field Ian Paice for example...listen and watch very carefully these solos and you will understand...(just write here in you tube what you read below):
1.Ian Paice-Deep Purple1969-Mandrake Root
2.Ian Paice - The Mule drum solo
3.Live in California (Long Beach Arena) 27th February 1976
4.Gary Moore - Hurricane
5. speed king (paice view) ; maybe my favourite...
