There is a massive difference between helping some to die who is NOT terminal and helping someone to die who is already dying.
Once the dying process has begun, and it is simply a matter of time I believe that it is acceptable to intervene in order to ensure a good death. This may well mean life is days or weeks shorter
Yes it should. Nobody should have to SUFFER! PAS is personal decision, period. Americans are soooo weak when it comes to the death issue. Other cultures understand, and even embrace death. Americans are the only ones that want to live to 200 years old, while still looking like their in their 30's, WTF?
As a supporter of assisted suicide I agree with Tallis that we do have to make the distinction between the so called man on the bridge and the person suffering from a terminal illness. This distinction is vital for understanding the legislation trying to be put in place. As for the wider social/political ramifications opponents argue would follow (the slippery slope) we must look to places such as Switzerland to dispute such logical fallacies and put more faith in human natures instinct to live.
