The first time i had ever seen ronnie was a few yrs before Elvis died...IF you really know ronnie this is his voice. No it isnt elvis, no one is, Ronnie was never an Elvis impersonator, he was a singer trying to get into country in 1975 (note the year????) After Elvis died, Dec of 1977 Johnny Carson had him on for the first time, someone had told Johnny about this young man that looked nothing like elvis but the voice was astonishing..Ronnie recorded country records
Hey 4ever6469, some of those Doug Church recordings that you see on Utube, are not his voice, they actually ARE Elvis, not Doug. Look at all of the ones, where it shows Doug Church actually singing, and they are good, but not near as good as about 7 or 8 other imitators that I've heard. The ones that show Elvis singing, and supposedly Doug's voice, don't believe it for a minute. They are actually Elvis singing.
No one that is trying to sound like Elvis is in their natural voice. Too me Ronnie McDowell, has the best voice in a couple of Elvis' songs, and is better than anyone except Elvis himself. But very very close indeed is Shawn Klush. As far as the complete package of looks and voice, I have to give the nod to Shawn Klush as the best Elvis imitator I've ever heard.
He's ok, but something doesn't sound right. Seems like he's trying to hard. He might be better if he sung more naturally. I heard Doug Stone and was amazed.
I saw him once in person, now I love Elvis I always have and will, but when I saw this man I had to really pay attention. He is THE best interpreter, BUT there is only one Elvis.
Ronnie is impersonating the Elvis from 70's, I mean the 70's voice style of Elvis.
Everybody change voice at least bit while get older. I supose ROnnie voice change a bit, like Elvis voice, but he can still force a little to try get Elvis's young voice.
Ronnie is FANTASTIC! I met him in 1981 during and after a telethon at the Osmond studios, but why haven't I heard much of him since? Does he still perform?
Yes, Ronnie is still performing, you can find his website for dates. My band opened for him a couple times in the last few years, and he is a gentleman and a pro.
Ronnie has a million fans, They love him because of who he is, Yes he sings Elvis, but he also sings Ronnie. We all look at Ronnie as an Elvis fan, doing what we wish we could do, sound like Elvis.
And he sings Ernest Tubb and Johnny Cash, and just about anyone else he sets his mind to ... and he does them all well ... He's great. Wish I could sing like him, indeed. lol
OMG ... you people that pretend to know that Ronnie "wants" to be Elvis, make me sick. Ronnie admired Elvis, his voice, and his talent. Move along and don't try to undermine him simply because he has the actual ability to sound like Elvis. ..... k? There is a reason that Priscilla has handpicked Ronnie to do Elvis' recordings in the movies, since he died ... k? Do some research.
so true.ronnie is ronnie a great musician in his own.he is an elvis fan not an elvis copier.he has his own voice but can do elvis closely.have you seen his paintings too .he is very talented artist in that way to and avery nice person.met him at delgrosso park in altoona,pa.he is a friend with the presley family and elvis presley enterprises and elvis radio
Ronnie is good, but he's an EPA, either way you look at it, Jimmy E wanted nothing to do with Elvis in the end, he never made money from it as such, he succeded where the EPA's neva started.
primesuspect: If I may...the obvious way an Elvis fan would know that this is not Elvis is because they are an Elvis fan. I don't need to know Ronnie's voice to realize it is not Elvis. An Elvis fan knows Elvis' voice.
I can't disagree with what you say to a certain extent, but when I heard "The King Is Gone" I thought it WAS Elvis, as did the majority of Elvis fans. I'm an Elvis fan since 'bout 5 y/o & I ain't no spring chicken. :-) But, I still say, to differentiate, most have to know RONNIE'S voice to know it's not Elvis. And not that it really matters, but I know Ronnie, and I'd lay odds that he's a much bigger Elvis fan than you or I will ever dare to be, and that's why he does Elvis' songs so well.
Well sir I heard "The King is Gone" when it came out and I knew immediately it was not Elvis. I still have the 45 record I bought of it at GC Murphy. And no, he is not any bigger of a fan than I am of Elvis. Just cause he has national acclaim does not make him any bigger than anyone else who likes Elvis. That is not why he does Elvis songs well. It is his talent which not everyone has. I do Ernest Tubb, Charlie Rich and Bocephus very well....I bet Ronnie can't do those 3 as good as I can.
Forget my last statement in my last comment. It is not about me and I am not conceited. I love to sing and Ronnie has been fortunate to be where he is. Happy Thanksgiving and give thanks to the Good Lord for what we have.
The best!

I guess we forget that Ronnie had various country hits in his natural voice such as "Older women". He was discovered by Conway Twitty.
