  • im not at all making fun of this musical, im in it for our musical, but here, senex isn't even really singing

  • In microcosm, this is why the movie stunk. The director couldn't leave this showstopper alone and ruined it.

  • Aqua-duct shot is the best :)

  • does that mean maids ought to hav a maid

  • @lukassnakeman Yes, and the maids' maids should have maids, who should have maids of their own, who have maids who have maids who have maids who have maids..........

  • @Videogamer3692 i guess i had that answer coming

  • @lukassnakeman Yeah, you kinda did XD

  • Will Pinkie Pie sing "Everypony Ought to Have a Laugh"? (here from TV Tropes)

  • @dogman15 Not in this video :P Also Yay ^_^ TVTropes.

  • @rugburglar: I honestly forgot how I got here two months ago. :ponyshrug:

  • wow lol bad

  • Who did the cheap choreography? Zero himself?

  • I love that flying broom joke.

  • It's Funny 'cos none of them could actually get a maid

  • @ThePinkBlob123: Yeah, I could see this being an earworm.

  • ...giving out.

  • One of the very few musicals I enjoy.

  • We did the play at my high school. I could never get this song out of my head.

  • @ThePinkBlob123 Of COURSE NOT!

  • These guys are/were comedic genius and probably made more money that leaves comments here. Course I might be a tiny bit biased since I love this movie!

  • I get to play Lycus in my school's production. The choreography for this song was a pain in the ass, especially in robes, but it's so much fun now that we've got it down.

  • I was introduced to this movie in my theatre class 2 years ago, and it is by far the funniest movie that isn't (extremely) dirty compared to more modern movies! I LOVE IT! The only thing I'm wondering is, why do all the older men either have bad hair, big noses, or both?

  • @snttlc12 dont forget bad teeth

  • @jilley76 Exactly my point.

  • Five really need a maid.

  • Jack Gilford has GREAT hair ! But the others..yes, unfortunate. This choreography is quite clever for its time. And let us not forget who wrote the music. Fun stuff. Classic comedians.

  • Jack Gilford has GREAT hair ! But the others..yes, unfortunate. This choreography is quite clever for its time. And let us not forgst who wrote the music. Fun stuff.

  • This is one of my all time favorite musicals, Zero Mostel did such a good job.

  • I need a maid.

  • Best song in... history?

5 people don't know true comedy.

  • I love the Orange guy!

  • sexy poledance at 2:17

  • Zero Mostel, Buster Keaton, Phil Silver could the cast get better ?

  • my friend and i were in this play at her school and it was extremely fun.

  • The first time I saw this movie I almost literally fell out of my seat I was laughing so hard.

  • i love this movie!

  • 2:59 el acueducto de Segovia!!! :-D

  • I saw a bunch of girls do this song at an anime convention a few years back-of course, they were dressed up as a bunch maids. I think I was the only one who actually knew the source material.

  • @dkupke This should be at every anime convention, imho.

  • My friend ran around camp singing this and I just had to check it out. It's hilarious and I want to see the movie!

  • i wish all movies were like this... @ 1:36 i was just 0_o

  • Favorite song in this whole musical!!!

  • I guess I have unfortunate hair, but I love this!

  • yes. I had lots of maids in the PIs.

  • I don't brag. But i've had maids since 1974...

  • please upload this with the conversation between Lycus and Pseudous. It's an absolute scream

  • i just saw this in latin class it is so funny!!! i loved it hahaha

  • GAH! This movie was soooooooooooo horrible, but I loved it! xD

  • My dad came home from seeing this movie & sang this song for three days around the house. We both love this movie. This scene is so funny & precious! Thank you for posting it!

  • I love this movie so much!

  • I love this film. Not as good as the original, but the fact they got most of the original cast, and really had fun with this scene makes me happy. :)

  • "Maids like me, I'm neat! I like maids, they're neat!"

  • their a bunch of old pervs!

  • We went a little overboard when we did this show...and it was hilarious! Whenever there was a commotion scene I would always shout "My leg!" From backstage, even if there was no one getting hurt on stage. "She died of an illness contracted while still on Crete." "What illness?" "The plague!" *Everyone Screams and Runs Away* "My leg!"

  • You know you've got it good when you watch this in Latin Club at school and get to sing these songs WITHOUT getting wierd looks. XD

  • hay hay! im Senex in a production in Aber! woop

  • hilarious.

  • The older I get, the more I agrees with this suggestion; and the other messages laced into the story. In my naiveté, I used to discount this show as a silly little musical but life have shown me that the cynics are right. You are indeed better off paying for service with a fixed price.

  • Best bit in a brilliant film. Just a the clip misses out Horden's dialogue with the "maid" just before the song.

    "...but you must know something."

    "Yes?"

"Though you may have my body, you shall never have my heart."

"Well you can't have everything..." :)

  • Everybody Ought To Go Get Laid.

  • Sondheim's "Funny Thing" is one of the few great musicals transferred from the B'way stage to the movies--and improve in the process. Zero Mostel starred in both and did himself proud. A grand present to us, so thanks for posting.

  • such a good movie xD

I saw it in my Humor and Satire english class and I've been watching songs from it all day now!!

  • uhm this is rediculous, i lovee it.

  • This is such a funny song! I love it!

  • Four horny old men with unfortunate hair

  • LOL! Best comment eva! (heh, or ever, if one prefers)

  • You shoulda seen the version I was in! four twenty-ish girls playing four horny old men with unfortunate hair (and by the end of it, anachronistic cigars thanks to Lycus). BTW I played Vibrata and I'm a guy. I hope to post some of it. It was lovely, absolutely lovely!

  • @gentlerat I played in this too. I was Pseudolus, and I wasn't really trying for that part. I was going for Erroneous.

  • @WillScarlet16 I always took Psuedolus to be in his mid thirties, Hysterium to be in his early thirties, and Lycus to be in his late forties.

  • @TimDraketheRedRobin Zero and Jack are definitely NOT in their thirties.

  • @WillScarlet16 Yeah I know THEY aren't. I was talking about the characters.

  • Bet fricken movie ever! Ihave watched this movie 1284618199181872366374475886463626252563368458482727 times! And I am NOT exargerating!! Lol.

  • Darn this song is catchy! I recently saw a production of this and I hope my school does this show next, it looked like so much fun!

  • Lmfao omg one of the funniest musicals, I love this one :P

  • I absolutely love this movie. I bought it, and had the cashier look at it for a couple minutes, asking me about it. The theatre group in my hometown has done it a couple of times.

  • i played Lycus in my high school's production, best show ever.

  • I love this movie! xD I watched it with my Latin IV class at the end of the year.

  • How is the virgin?!

  • i remember when i plaid this on london stages.

I was in chorus. I was the greatest experience in my life...

  • Hats in the air for Stephen Sondheim for this great musical comedy and this equally memorable movie, with masters like Buster Keaton, Zero Mostel, Jack Guilford, and Michael Crawford (many years later the Phanthom of the Opera).

  • dont forget phil silver(he played marcus lycus)!

  • One of the best songs and routines ever! Classic!!!

  • wiggling in the other rooms

  • Lol they're dancing on the aquaduct (the big bridgelike structure used to carry water into the city!) Funny!!!!!1

  • where not retarded. we know what an aquaduct is

  • not people who dont know about ancient rome!!!!!

  • love it when they slide UP the stairs on their asses!

  • I know a person who put together a group at an anime-convention who did this song for a skit. If you ever see some of the more adult themed anime's out there, the Japanese love the image of the naughty maid.

  • I saw this twice in latin I and we saw it once last week. it was better thatn clash of the titans

  • SOOOO sixties! I love it!!!

  • one of the funniest most perverted songs ever!! that's why i love it so much!

  • My favorite song out of the whole movie!

  • this is about the funniest old musical movies i've ever seen (or ever will see...i had to in Latin III but still it's awesome)

  • I love the randomness of some parts here. its simple editing but the end product is hilarious XD

  • I was hoping someone else would notice that ;)

  • Love this movie, just saw it tonight!

  • ME FAVORITE!

  • ......Oh my God, they're the male Fanta girls.

  • @jarvisel Oh god....didn't to visualize that

  • @jarvisel everybody ought to have a fanta

  • @jarvisel So? What?

  • I love the filming style done for this song...it's so hilarious XD!

  • One of my favorites from this musical!

  • Lol if only there wer esuch things...its true they're extremely similar! in fact as an massive sondheim fan i've noticed simlarities like this here and there...they're ace :)

  • There are some similarities with "It Takes Two" from Into the Woods:

    "To putter around the house"

    "You're different in the woods"

Do I get a Sondheim geek merit badge now?

  • No. You can't even spell his name right!

  • I see nothing...7 syllables each but thats real arbitrary

  • who gives a fuck if he cant spell the name , he saw into the woods.

  • LOL at the aqueduct shot at 2:23-27

  • one of my fave musicals!

thanx so much for posting.. could you post the song ''bring me my bride''. :)

  • thanks for posting this. steven sondheim.....

  • At 1:09 - 1:20, why is Jack Gilford still holding that chicken?

  • I noticed even at 2:54 he is still holding the chicken

  • I liked the movie I just recently saw this on tuesday

It was funny including the bit where they were talking about the father and pictures of the characters came up while they were chatting

  • Thanks ever so much!!! It´s enjoyment at its most!!! Wonderful Zero and company!

  • Can you please upload something with Hero in it? Michael Crawford is so adorable in this movie and I would love to see Lovely on here! =]

  • I'll try my hardest :)

  • Indeed, everybody should have their maid! What a great number from Sondheim's ingenious musical/movie version of this great show. Phil Silvers, Zero Mostel, Buster Keaton, and Jack Warden! All virgins themselves, of course. May they R.I.P., knowing they gave this musical their all!

  • My favourite line: ...'was 1 a good year?... (refering to a bottle of wine)

  • It's the best musical to movie translation ever! Not only is Zero Mostel absolutely hysterical, but the scenery is amazingly realistic (it's as dirty and sleazy as Rome truly was), and they cut out all the mediocre songs, leaving only the really good ones. I love this movie!

  • This was a good version of the musical but you're right, they did omit some songs - especially the one called FREE. But I wouldn't say all the songs were mediocre - they were all great as only Sondheim can do.

  • It's true, they did omit quite a few songs. In fact, I believe they omitted half of them or so (at least 5). However, I've always considered the songs they omitted to be the weaker ones, so I don't mind.

  • i too like the movie version, but i wish they kept hysterium's song "i'm calm" in it, i thought that song was fantastic!

and "pretty little picture", that was a good one too! otherwise, i love the movie version!

  • I love this movie! but i wished they put in Hysterium's song "I'm calm" that songs songs hilarious! and "pretty little picture" too, thats a wonderful song! otherwse, a brilliant film version!

  • the funniest musical ever. Its a favorite of mine.

  • The weird-ass filming style and truly demented camera angles are perfectly suited to this number.

  • Can you upload a comedy Tonight and the opening credits? Thank you!!

  • Great clip from a great movie, I just wish some of the other songs were on here.

  • Would you be able to post the opening credits and Comedy Tonight? I'd really like that.

  • I let someone borrow my copy of this movie a long time ago and neglected to get it back ;p But I'll see what I can do...
