This video shows some incorrect procedures. They are damaging. Never point or pull your feet in this type of a stretch as it not only loads other structures and interferes with biofeedback of the main muscle which should be getting stretched but can damage the knee capsule if feet are pulled. Feet should be totally relaxed. Professional ballet dancers often have a short 6 year or so career because they do improper techniques such as this and injure themselves causing eventual permanent damage.
@Rtystic This is incorrect and it only damages you if done incorrectly. I have been dancing for six years and do all of this, and this teaches flexibility.
micaelaMONSTROSITYxo, Sorry but it's not incorrect. (What I had said). The damage it causes if done that way is slow and insidious. Some people will not get much damage (or notice it) because of either a large amount of muscle mass where some damage goes unoticed and doesn't hinder perfromance for many years or because the individual already has a large genetic capacity for flexibility. You must fall into one of those categories.
Lucky you! :) But I still recommend that you do them properly.
micaelaMONSTROSITY, No, it does not apply to people of "certain" ages. It also applies to everyone. As I said, the damage will still be done...but might go UNNOTICED for several or many years as some people have larger amounts of muscle mass so when they damage a bit of muscle, they still function fairly normal for years sometimes....but the damage will catch up with them eventually and joint and other problems will show themselves. All of that can be avoided if the stretches are done correctly.
@Rtystic actually, no. if started at a young age the body becomes tolerant to these movements. and for several years? I've been doing this all of my life and my body is fine. My dance teacher is 25, she has been doing this all of her life and her body is fine since we both started at young ages when bones are more tolerant.
No...the body doesn't become "tolerant" of these movements. One is born with the genetic ability to be more flexible because of longer tendons and or muscles than others perhaps but not because the body become tolerant. You said you can do these because you and your teachers did these since young when BONES are more tolerant >uh, no. Stretching does not have anything to do with the BONES...it has to do with the nervous system & the tendons and muscles. You can do these because of your genetics.
but how can I do hat with my legs ?????????
