It's something new in wine-testing to taste from a half-emtied bottle, isn't it? If he oppened that bottle the day before, the wine must definetly had changed it's taste( due to oxidation, especialy if you keep it at low temperature, in afreedge).

Spitting is part of the game for a taster I am afraid! I sometimes taste 80-120 samples in an afternoon at trade tastings and so I spit 95% of the samples in order to stay sober. By the way, I think there are many wines much better tha the Martinens...
