Haa 14-15 varshaa cha astana majhya babanni hyala paahila hota cricket kheltana shivaji park madhe. Tevha ch te mhanale hote ki haa motha houn ek great cricketer bannaar... Aaj, haa evdha great aahe tari suddha he is so down to earth! Tu kharach great aahes! Jai Hind! Jai Maharashtra! :D
I dont understand Marathi. Thanks for the translation. Such a beautiful, touching poem. This is THE guy which makes me feel proud to be an Indian!! Hail the great Son on India..
I am not a Marathi..and could not understand a bit of what he was saying except for some Sanskrit words. But, I am so proud I belong to the same nation that he does.
Here is the poem he read: प्राजक्त (Prajakt -- A rare and beautiful Indian flower, often used as an offering to the Gods during Aarti) I have not forgotten you, I remember everything I perceive still, our imperceptible bond All the crosses I have to bear, I will bear silently And I will offer the Prajakta flowers to fate
"When I raised my head to the sky, I felt Baba (his father) was watching me and I had never ever felt that way before. When I read this poem again , I somehow felt a link -- the same feeling that I had when I completed my century that day, which is why I choose to read it today."
"I called up Raj, sent him an SMS, asking him to excuse me -- I wasn't up to it. Raj immediately called back, saying he would come over to meet me. Then I found out that the advertisements had already gone out, saying I would attend and read a poem. Now there was no way out for me."
"So today I'm going to try and read this poem today for you."
"The poem is called 'Prajakt', and it was written by my father (Ramesh Tendulkar)."
"Raj Thackeray invited me to this programme. Initially he said I just have to sit there on the stage. I was happy. Then slowly he dropped the bombshell: I would have to read a poem. I said yes, without thinking. Later, when he was gone, I started to take out my books, thinking of which poem to read. I thought of this particular poem and I started to read it out to Anjali (his wife). It was only Anjali sitting in front of me, but still, I couldn't even go through the first two lines."

I will hold the rain of silent tears in my eyes
And I will save for you, only the arch of a rainbow

"There is a special reason to read it -- an attachment I have for this poem."
"My father passed away during the World Cup in England in 1999. I came back to India, and then went back after his funeral."
"By god's grace, I made a century in the very next match."
"Normally when I complete my century I raise my bat and look to the sky to thank God. But this, time I felt something different."
