Sydney gut here but enjoyed the Newcastle surfing and nudist beaches many times  --i havent seen the movie , however the scenes seem very factual

I dribble a bit more.. we also got 2 big ocean baths - newcastle and merewether ,newcastle beach also has a umm big toddlers wadding pool cut into the rocks but they cut channels in the rocks so the waves break up and its all safe and calm most days.. main big beaches near CBD are nobby's beach, newcastle beach, bar beach & merewether beach.. a lot of seasonal grape picking work up in the hunter valley (1hrs drive tops) for backpackers(dont stay in cessnock the people & town is a redneck hole)

We do have lots of beaches.. even a beach offically for dogs and horses to go (horse shoe beach).. 2 nudist beaches - susan gilmore (not official but aways was) is 1km from CBD, and Samarai is 30 mins to the north (and its officially nudist).. Big beach for 4x4 and recreational purpose - Stockton beach- its 32km long (20 miles) and 3500 square kilometers of sand dunes..

Ok, I'm going to expand on the previous comment by clarifying what I mean by the film being unrealistic and unrepresentative.

I think the film tangentialised, and therefore faded into mediocrity at that juncture of homosexual acceptance. Not that Acceptance of homosexuality is bad or onerous, just that homosexuality as a central attention grabbing theme is opportunistic and in that theme ;Crass.

hahaha, Old Barry Otto, doin it for Newy, hahaha, I went to Newcastle High , surfed Bar, Cliff, Merewether, Point X , Leggy and Susan Gilmore since 75, First time I ever got drunk was at Miranda Ottos Party after a school production in 84 called Salad Days, Miranda is such a lovely person in real life, Im not grovelling, really, she is sweet! This film isnt bad from what Ive seen of it, but totally unrealistic and unrepresentative of real Newcastle surfing culture.
