This awareness exercise isn't some "gottcha," but a psychological fact called Inattentional Blindness. The human mind doesn't notice what it's not looking for. If any driver isn't actually looking out for cyclists (or pedestrians) it's as easy to miss them as that moonwalking bear. Nothing dishonest about it.
