Just to state how bad AA's neck was: He was injured in 1994 and then never stopped to let his body recuperate for three years. How bad was it? They found a rib, possibly torn away from the spine during the accident, was popping in and out of joint. His left arm suddenly went numb and unresponsive during a match, and the only way to save it was to fuse two discs in his neck. He had to retire because he could no longer take bumps on his back or risk paralysis or even death.

They added Mongo basically because they liked him and he fulfilled the power role like Sid or Barry Windham used to do. Unfortunately Mongo was not very skilled in the ring and he just walked away one night. Benoit, on the other hand, was every bit a true Horseman.

@danpats1 Actually, when the Four Horsemen first formed in Jim Crockett Promotions, they were able to pick their own members but WCW came into existence, they picked who to put into the faction & that's why Mongo got in & even Brian Pillman, who I forget sometimes was a Horsemen.

@KingKong317 I just read on Wikipedia & you are correct, Arn said in his autobiography that Double J. was never a Horseman, but I didn't see that it said he was the only one that was never a Horseman & also read via Wikipedia - "The Four Horsemen usually pick their own members, but at the time, WCW held extreme control over storylines and this may have forced them to accept a member for those purposes only and not by choice." so maybe there were others they wouldn't have had in the group
